@Redemption, I do happen to agree with what you want to do. I prefer and enjoy to play the way you're describing. Sadly, I've found the vast majority of miners and traders don't.
I won't completely give up. Interacting with official factions and well known players usually is a great deal of fun.

Last time i tried to rp with hypocrit, ignorant, ***** (exuse the language) he called in back-up, i got shot to bits cause i tried to roleplay. but i learned the lesson those people taught me. first shoot than ask questions otherwise you face your own dead:)

You see the situation work out like this in full detail with me.
1: Trade lane interrupted by a pirate who happens to have NPC back up.
2: I talk before the pirate, normally quick blunt replies now for my sake of surviving. "Hello how much is the fee to pass."
3: Pirate responds with, surprisingly not 2 mil, "(ranged credit from 500k - 1.5 mil) Please." (At least they said please)
4: I take a minute to type something like. "Alright I'm wiring it to your
account now. One moment."
5: PEW PEW PEW! *Shield Disabled*
6: "(Random credit amount again) now!"
7: Me: "God that's the third shield I've had to repair today! Hold on its sending!"
8: Givecash sent.
9: Pirates good bye message: "Okay now get lost, or Carry on."
(They never say thank you >.< )
10: I leave.
Thats the best RP I get haha.

I had almost good interactions with pirates. Some others fired to fast <strike>(*looks to Rorry*)</strike>.
But I like it to diss/make fun of them. Asking why they're so rough and so.
Sometimes I also get a "please". Or, if they ask for a small amount I only give them a credit card/500k.
Of course I'm not wondering, if I get pewpewed after these interactions. :crazy:

From my experience the most TRADERS do not care much about RP as Cannon or Espi already posted.
If you as a pirate focus on RP-conversations most of the silent running traders will escape and you will get jumped by silent, out-of-nowhere popping forces.
By the way if you wanna have a chat go and visit a bar.
