Planetary Defense Grids - Jinx - 02-04-2008 shields on the current caps = impossible singleplayer much tougher stationary guns or planetary guns may well mess up the singleplayer, too. - so unless igiss decides to forget about the singleplayer playability at all -i am uncertain that anything like that is considerable. about missiles - supernova / mortars are looking like missiles - but are projectiles in fact. - they would not burn in the atmosphere. and when you give a single projectile the impact effect ( graphical ) of multiple smaller explosions -it would even look like a multi warhead nuke that engulfs the target in a fireball ( even if it only does direct hit damage, instead of blast damage ) other than that - a constant stream of light mortar like shots should be enough - don t think we need something like a super inferno or something similar to the liberty cruiser front gun. - that d be too much. Planetary Defense Grids - Etaphreven - 02-04-2008 Totally forgot about SP. Yes, that would certainly screw it up. Planetary Defense Grids - Varyag - 02-19-2008 I really think this is a good idea. It is way too easy for me to get close to a planet in my LF (Basilisk). I try and make an RP thing of it, when a BS patrol shows up I run and the same usually for Varyag. I try to stay off about 10 to 13 clicks unless I am actively hunting someone. There should be a real deterrent to hanging out at the major planets as an enemy. I really like the weapons platform idea. The stationary BS's here and there are ridiculously powerful. It shouldn't be hard to implement. One more idea, maybe the same for zone 21 in NY. It seems that the lawful forces there can simply not guard that area. So how about some really nasty weapons platforms there aligned to Lib Navy Guard. Just my two cents. Varyag Planetary Defense Grids - Carlos_Benitez - 02-19-2008 Absolutely in favour. Attacks and blockades on House Capitals by criminals need to stop, their battleships need to be automaticly crushed brutally. The factions shouldnt be responsible for defending the planets that shouldnt be attacked. Outcasts and Corsairs need a good reason to leave their opponents' territories after a successful raid. This idea cures both problems. It'll stop the OORP blockades of NY, and help the Corsair-Outcast RP. Planetary Defense Grids - Dusty Lens - 02-19-2008 ' Wrote:Absolutely in favour. On more than one occasion I've spotted an Order or Corsair independent ship sitting gleefully atop the Missouri without a care in the world. Just an observation. Planetary Defense Grids - Snip3rNife - 02-20-2008 I like the idea of a giant but slow laser turret inside the planet. The more powerful stationary turret idea is good too but that causes problems for weak players and NPCs. Planetary Defense Grids - El Nino - 02-20-2008 how about mounting insane turrets on docking rings...? Planetary Defense Grids - Etaphreven - 02-20-2008 People will go behind the planet... Planetary Defense Grids - Ash - 02-20-2008 I dont think this will actually be a good idea because you would have to make the defense grids destructable whereas most planitry objects arent e.g. Docking ring etc. Because of this it may make it impossible to seige a planet. Planetary Defense Grids - BestFlyerHere - 02-22-2008 The SP issue is simply not an issue. Discovery was designed for multiplayer, and I've attempted the SP campaign several times, and have not been able to complete it with the Discovery mod on. It's been stated by Igiss and admins that Disco's not guaranteed to work with SP, so it's not important for it to be compatible. However, I think that this would cause massive lag on the server. Players are on thing, but to have a massive planetary defense grid that fires at everything hostile with anywhere from heavy mortars to colodas is not going to be server-efficient, and is probably more trouble than it's currently worth. This is not saying we shouldn't try implementing one. Perhaps the 4.85 beta would be a perfect time. We'd just need a dedicated team to develop individual ones for Houses, and it'd be difficult.
