I love you.

Do not break on that.

Then all of those people who were saying "YOU CANT TAKE X MOD FEATURE ITS UNIQUE FROM X MOD AND YOU'LL RUIN THEIR PLAYERBASE IF YOU DO"

They'll say that to us.

And who will be the hypocrites now?

There are some things, not fitting to each other. You said it will be possible to create a server capacity of around 1200. If these slots are all filled you won't need to hire NPC escorts. I have seen that in another mod before. Its quite annoying cause of the lack of AI "knowledge". And with all these featerus I cant imagine to play with 1200 players at the same time. Imagine that. No system will be empty any longer. And the anyway overcroweded places will become a huge place of lag and computer crushes. Even now with my computer, which is really not good, can't manage it to visualize over 20 players without lagging. In relation to computers with better hardware and software it's the same with, for example, 300 players sitting infront of Manhattan. I just cant imagine that. Not for this kind of game. And the thing with the performance. I also cant imagine how a computer with your setup should manage to visualize hundreds of player ships. And then in a battle...People without very good computers wouldnt be able to play Discovery anylonger imho.

It's fair to say that given the systems are redesigned and enlarged, there's plenty of room to go around. Some parts of one system may be a "hub" as other parts may be desolate. As for performance, I'm using InstanceID's with DirectX. It will all depend on the options you choose. If you have a crappy computer, tests will need to be done on the Dev side and you will need to lower settings (mind you that the graphics on lowest in this engine will still be better than Freelancer's).

Bad for me then. My computer is lagging at some parts of entrances to nebulas on the highest settings. And I think I am not the only one who is playing with a crappy computer. You said the lowest settings of your engine would be better than the settings in the normal freelancer engine then a lot of people just cannot continue playing Discovery. Bad for the people who doesnt have the money to get a new computer.

<strike>Will you have trusted cheaters too? </strike> j/k

How do you plan to maintain the servers if its completely free?
Will you let the community test a beta eventually or it will be closed too?
Why this mod?
Why not get help from someone else that you trust?

Post your computer specs and I can give a ballpark if your computer will be able to handle it.

I will gladly pay out of pocket for the main server (high performance server/100mb).
Yes, the community will be able to test the Beta but the Alpha version will be limited access.
Why this mod? The only answer that comes to mind is, why not?
As for trust, I've helped other communities reach #1 in their game (Counter-Strike: Source, Battlefield 1942/Vietnam, etc.) only to be undermined by their greed for money and demand for more content on a regular basis, milking players for cash because of my mods. Trust is gained, not paid for. The Discovery team has been providing a free service for years and that's why I trust them.

I will eventually ask for help in terms of modelers and texture creation.
