That looks WAY too familiar...

I had a close encounter with a deer one early evening that resulted in almost that. In a Toyota Corolla, thing ran out into the middle of the road, I smacked it head on. Fortunately, the hood crumpled in the middle and deflected the thing up and over the passenger compartment, or I'd have had a deer in the car with me.

And yeah, we were able to drive the car the rest of the way home afterwards - it was all body damage, nothing structural actually was hurt. Of course, dried deer blood on the white roof didn't look too good, either.

I used to live in the interior (British Columbia), in a reasonably sized city of ~100 000. Pretty much every year someone would die from hitting a moose.

Small cars are actually more likely to survive with less damage from a moose strike for the above reason. The animal tends to be thrown over the roof and miss the driver. A higher vehicle however tends to strike it head on, which is bad for the driver. I'm pretty sure we have statistics on this sort of thing.

On the other hand, I've seen more bears at my place in the Vancouver area than I ever did in town up north.

Also very frightening but cool: me and dad in a 12ft aluminum boat fly fishing. Just brought in a small trout and are in the process of releasing. Big bald eagle, probably 6 foot or bigger wingspan decided he liked the look of that and hovered just off to one side of the boat. It would not have gone well if that eagle wasn't so patient...

No way, moose are awesome.

I mean you have moose steak, moose pepperoni, moose spaghetti...who needs beef?

*quickly glances side to side for anyone from Alberta* :P

On a serious note, moose are actually pretty cool animals and like all things there needs to be regulation/conservation to keep things balanced.

I have to agree, sometimes I drop a tear when i hunt them. But when I really cry is when we get an order from oil drillers for some baby seals and we have to go out of our way to find them and them....hard to say, hit them hard on their heads, so we don't damage the fur...

One man just came from Sakhalin and was like: "man, i could try a dolphin soup.." and he said it so I could hear. Damn, i got mad, I gathered all my courage, came up to him and said a firm low toned voice: "How about I finger you and do you good?" He put his eyes down and answered: "I guess I will stick to pasta and peas."

Dolphin, or dolphin fish? BIG difference - dolphin fish is also known as mahi-mahi, and is quite delicious. That's why in a restaurant you may see something on the menu like grilled dolphin or cajun dolphin - it's actually dolphin fish, not dolphin dolphin...
