RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Haphestus - 11-04-2012 Jorzza saw the other two Naval officers approaching. Usual navy stance, usual navy walk. typical, typical, typical. "Oh look, SQUIDIES. Pride of the Liberty Navy" He said grinning. Jorzza looked at the beers Lambert set down. He took one and opened the top with his right hand and took a sip his face still grinning. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Jeremy Hunter - 11-04-2012 Unlike Jorzza's appraisal of Reginald's walk, she walked more casually, with a small bounce in her step. She grabbed a beer. Alexis popped the top off with her hand and took a decent drink. "I prefer vodka personally. I think it's genetics." She giggled a bit, seeming to be more akin to a teenager when off-duty. "And no, Reginald here is the pride. I'm the dark secrets." She parried Jorzza with a grin. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 11-06-2012 Pita thought for a moment "Would you like a drink? we have orange juice, or water if you want some?" She brushed her hair out of her face again and smiled. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Teerin - 12-09-2012 It had only been half an hour since Chloe had landed on Denver. She was able to deal with her ship without any problems (due to a large sum paid to a local dockmaster), then take a cab to the address Lambert gave her. Stepping out of the taxi, she looked up at James' home. It was an interesting house, made mostly out of stone. Chloe meandered her way up the path and to the front door. She stretched out her arm, and rang the bell. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 12-10-2012 // Time has passed here since the last interaction at the house. Consider the scene reset, and back to invited parties only. It was already dark outside when Lambert made it back home. As had so often been the case over the course of his career, what was supposed to be a routine patrol in New York had turned into a long nightmare. The hostile Nomad was long gone, but he still felt on edge. As he stumbled out of his Guardian and down the walk towards the house, he tried to clear his mind. It was tough, considering everything that had happened. He crashed through the back door, the blood splotched on his uniform and a few places on his face making him a grisly sight. Inwardly, Lambert thanked his lucky stars that Pita wasn't present to see him in this state. He wasn't sure where she was at the moment, maybe in her room. He went upstairs, making a beeline for the shower. He'd have to hurry, for his guest would be here at any time. --- The doorbell rang just as Lambert was getting dressed. The shower had helped, but he still felt strange. The shadows in the corners of his dimly-lit bedroom all seemed to contain threats, monstrous shadows ready to rip at his weakened mind... He shook himself, trying to snap out of it. He was glad his guest had arrived, for he didn't think he could handle being alone another minute. Fingers flew over the last few buttons of his burgundy shirt, and he retreated from the room in a hurry. He hurried down the stairs and through the living room to answer the front door. As expected, it was Chloe. He was somewhat surprised to see that she'd managed to clean up and change as well, into an olive green sweater and black pants. Almost against his will, he smiled when he saw her. Despite everything that had happened out in space, they'd both made it here. To this safe place. "Please, come in. Make yourself at home." He uttered the time-honored words and ushered her into the living room. It was cold out, with hints of what might be an oncoming snow. It would be a cold night. She came in and offered her a seat on the couch. He quickly lit the fire, warming the room a bit and adding a great deal of comfort. He then went to the kitchen. "Want anything to drink? I have some nice wine, though it's not a Gallic vintage." As he spoke, he searched in the cabinet until he found a particular bottle of whiskey. Harris 791, an old relic from his days as a Bounty Hunter. His go-to "I almost died today" beverage. Sadly, it was almost empty. Sighing, he poured himself a glass while he waited for Chloe to answer. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Teerin - 12-10-2012 "Please, come in. Make yourself at home," James said. She nodded, then made her way to the living room, and sat on the couch. Chloe barely heard what he said, as her thoughts were racing. "What am I doing here?", "What have the Nomads done to me?", "Can I trust Lambert?", and more. James lit the fireplace, and asked, "Want anything to drink? I have some nice wine, though it's not a Gallic vintage." She heard what James said more clearly this time, and watched as he poured himself a glass. Chloe pondered his question a moment, then responded, "I... I'll have some of that wine. Thanks." She then realized she hadn't tried whiskey before, but James' bottle was almost empty, so she didn't ask. Chloe looked around, giving her mind time to settle with things to look at. The only painting in the room was above the fireplace, that of a vase filled with Germaniums. There were curtains of the same color as those flowers. There were a pair of candles, some books, a clock... She gazed about the living room some more, then back over at James. She wanted to comment on how nice the room looked, but didn't quite know what to say. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 12-10-2012 "I... I'll have some of that wine. Thanks." He replaced the bottle of whiskey in the cabinet, and set his glass aside while he fished out the bottle of wine and poured a glass for Chloe. It was a red wine, a good vintage from Manhattan. He wasn't sure it would compare to what she was used to, but it was one of his favorites. He brought his whiskey and her wine over to the couch, and took a seat next to her. It was strange, this was the first time he'd ever been with her in person. Here she was -- a Gallic who he barely knew -- and he'd invited her into his home. Pita's home. He set the wine on the coffee table in front of her, and watched her as she picked it up to swirl and sniff. She was nervous too, perhaps more so than he was. And why not? Here she was, far from home, at the house of a man who served in a military that was at war with her entire star nation... He leaned back, taking a long drink of whiskey, savoring the strong smokey flavor. He wasn't sure what to say, now that she was here. He didn't want to talk about what had happened, not yet at least, yet he sensed the vivid shared experience hung over them like a cloud. After a long moment, he spoke. "I... well I guess we don't actually know too much about each other. Perhaps we can change that. Tell me a bit about where you're from." RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Teerin - 12-14-2012 Lambert took their drinks over to the coffee table, then sat down next to Chloe. She picked up the wine and took a small sip. It seemed decent enough to her, but she had never really been much for wine. Chloe smiled briefly, thinking of the stereotype that James must have of Gallia and its wine. She glanced over at him; he was taking a long drink form his whiskey. The two of them had only crossed paths once before, in a similar situation, at a similar place. But this time was different. They were talking with a Hogosha, and shortly after he left, Akuru showed up. The events that followed seemed almost unbelievable now. Akuru must have changed Chloe's perspective somehow, and she felt less tense, despite her nervousness. Suddenly, James spoke, "I... well I guess we don't actually know too much about each other. Perhaps we can change that. Tell me a bit about where you're from." Chloe was a bit startled, for she realized that her seconds of concentrated thought were in fact minutes long. Chloe replied, "I'm from Amiens, in Picardy. Amiens is an old world; its scarlet sands, once mined away, are now the home to hundreds of millions." She trailed off for a few seconds, then continued, "My parents have retired there, and my brother also works for the Corse." Smiling sheepishly, Chloe asked, "Are you from Denver, or somewhere else in Liberty?" As James began to respond, she took another drink from her glass. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 12-15-2012 Lambert took another drink of whiskey as she spoke. He had no idea where those places were, aside from "somewhere in Gallia". Still, hearing a bit about her life put him a bit more at ease. People in Gallia weren't so different, after all. "Are you from Denver, or somewhere else in Liberty?" He smiled at her, setting his glass down. "Well, I was born on Curacao, actually," he said, "but I guess I'm more of a Bretonian because that's where I lived growing up. Sheffield, mostly, which is in Manchester." He sighed. The lie was so smooth now that he almost believed it himself. "Do you see your brother often, or is he assigned to a different part of the Corse?" RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Teerin - 12-16-2012 "Well, I was born on Curacao, actually," responded Lambert, "but I guess I'm more of a Bretonian because that's where I lived growing up. Sheffield, mostly, which is in Manchester." Chloe stopped drinking for a second. She felt something wrong, a guilty feeling that seemed to have come from nowhere. James sighed, then continued on speaking. The feeling left her abruptly, and she set down her glass. "Do you see your brother often, or is he assigned to a different part of the Corse?" asked James. Chloe answered, "He works at Joinville, so I wouldn't see him normally." She gazed out the fireplace for a moment, then went on, "Now that I've taken up residence on Bethlehem, I won't see him again for a while." She started thinking more of what happened over an hour ago. James was attacked by a Nomad, and she helped save his life. The Nomad threw her mind into his for a brief time until Kingdom came, and afterwords Lambert took her home. And even though she had enjoyed talking to him before, she now felt uneasy in his presence. Her mind scrambling once more, she thought again, "What have the Nomads done to me?" along with "Am I still in James' head?" |
