Liberty Assault Battlecruisers, and Bounty Hunters - Cosmos - 06-18-2008

god the only reason why i bought the damned thing, is because im getting bored of the game and my friends dont want me to leave like last time, so i thought yeah ill buy a BC with a BH maybe ill get some fun outa that? yeah for the first 4 hours maybe but then people start getting all hypocritical about it, i mean come on whats the point in playing the godam game if you're not going to have fun eh?

I appaer to have misrepresented my own opinion on this, of course if the RP is appropriate then anything goes. So long as it stay within the bounds of server rules. No reason not to have BHG flying a Lib BC if the RP isn't just "I bought it".

However Cosmos, the attitude of "It's crap, we need somthing better", has gotten many folks shot in the foot.

If that is the main reason bring some RP into it, RP a crew unhappy with the current state of the outdated line and in need of something with a little more punch to bring to the Order, which is the only place these things should be being used accroding to BHG RP, unless you can come up with a good RP reason for it not to be there.

Because it's crap should not be the only reason for obtaining a better ship that could be construed as dodgy.

You can have loads of fun on Disco, the playerbase speaks for itself. While I am coming over as a jerk, I am actually trying to teach you something.(i'm just having some fun at the same time. >:D )

1st off, people will respect you more if you use your own faction's ship. If you don't like the ship, try a different faction!

If you reeeelly want to keep your current setup, make a little post about how you got it in the RP section of the forums. No awesomeness required.

Last but not least, fighters are underrated. The BHG has some pretty good ones too.

As much as I agree with Jinx that the original poll was poorly constructed, the spirit of it struck me clearly. Specially when you consider that Zapp himself is the withholder of two original stories which both grant its respective main characters ships that are non-standard. Not only that, he is part of the faction that houses the Fantasia. So, even though it can be said that the poll was ill formed, it isn't moot.

Also, even though I still agree with Jinx that exceptions can be made in the name of originality of a story, I'd point out that an exceptional role should come before the choice of an exceptional ship. An odd ship should be the consequence of a role and not the aim of it. To that effect I'd say that justification stories shouldn't cut it as much as original stories, and after you've read enough of them, the difference is quite clear.

Most people can come up with some sort of justification for a peculiarity, but it takes effort to be original and tell a story that will eventually demand the peculiarity.

That's the main reason why the "I stole it" stories are seen the way they are. Because most of them aren't really stories, but mostly justifications for a ship the character shouldn't be flying in the first place and worst, a lot are "developed" AFTER the ship has been already bought.

My vote is "maybe" to both with a good dose of prejudice.

EDIT: Just a reminder here. The "story" doesn't necessarily have to be written anywhere, but the player should be able to "tell" it in game. As much as I love writing and reading, role play is more important than story telling in a "role playing" game.

Nope and nope, nothing else to it.

Liberty Assault Battlecruisers, and Bounty Hunters - Heartless - 06-18-2008

no way, ever.

They have their own ships stick to them.

Does the U.S military let mercenaries like Blackwater or random bounty hunters command naval destroyers?
I don't think so.

Liberty Assault Battlecruisers, and Bounty Hunters - Linkus - 06-18-2008

Do Mercenaries have enough cash to buy several of said Destroyers? In Freelancer yes, in Real life no. Can't compare everything to real life.
Mercenaries are also not the same as an entire guild of bounty hunters.

All the same, they would need some very interesting RP to be allowed such a ship..

Zapp was speaking about those using lame excuses and stuff like that. Well writen RP stories aren't involved in this post.

If you can properly RP your ship, Fine by me. But don't say "I had it before we had our ships (errr...BHG ship are there since like 4. 72?) or "We stole it" because you'll end up with my GB and a bomber wing on you.

It will end up like Mace Griffin:laugh:

Voted No and No.

Folks have already expressed the reasons why quite well.
