While I'm sure that Freelancer doesn't have a single instance of f*ck, saying "f*cker's comin right for us" when a f*cker's comin right for us sounds pretty reasonable to me.
I can pretty conclusively confirm that there isn't any hard-profanity in Freelancer, ambient audio or otherwise.

This is moronic.
You people are still having the same conservative-vs-sanity argument about profanity years later when you've failed to realize that you're writing stories based around a 13+ rated video game containing multiple uses of profanity and friggin' alien mouth-bursters, and yet you're trying to censor the uses of the same words (and a few others) to the point where people have been warned for saying the word arse before.
Why did I quit this game?
I want to write stories and shoot things in space, and not be limited by a hard-conservative stance on censorship of expressive language right out of the Victorian era that is so far the opposite of progressive that it gives FCC execs hard-ons. I want to be free to express myself in writing without having to worry that my writing is going to be removed by some uptight prick who screams "but think of the children!" every time s/he sees something unfriendly to the eyes of five-year-olds but is fine with the description of graphic and sexual violence. I'm sure others want to as well. Oh, and don't bother telling me that I can do that outside of here. Why do you think I'm not here anymore other than to call you all morons?
Yeah, that crud's all over the RP forums. But drop an F4 and you get banned for a month.
You guys are idiots if you think banning people for the word "bastard" is going to make the forums a better place.

As you may have noticed in this very thread, the word was replaced and I admitted to making a mistake based on some rather old comments on the original poster's conduct on the forums. Feel free to rant about it if you wish, or have fun on EVE.
However, if you have to use some 'fancy' code to get around the swear-filter then that is clearly a problem.

I agree. Something tells me that using various euphemistic methods to allude to/ write about all this child-unfriendly stuff is even more sensational than using the f-word or writing about the event directly.

Don't say I'm free to rant about things and then censor my rant unless your goal is to spin Stalin in his grave with your "silly". Profanity conveys intensity through a small burst of surprise that more "kosher" words tend not to. You know that as well as I do.

one thing tho- I just woudn't like it if swearing was "legalised" and every word to come out of every player's RP chat was f*** f*** f*** s*** f*** f*** f**** bitch c*** ***** *** *** ****.
I mean sensible players wouldn't do that, but there are always those who think that just because you can swear means you gotta swear in every single ****ing sentence. Especially kids- if they grow up being taught that swearing is bad, then the second they experience the kinda freedom they go overboard and become really annoying with their swearing. The last thing I wanna do is to encounter some big corporate boss or a house government official or a house police who's first sentence he utters when he sees me is "cut your ****ing engines ****face and prepare to be ****ing inspected your ***hole"

sensitivity about the so called swear words is funny - not only in disco - but in many internet communities.
you can show and describe dismemberment, cruel murder, gruesome torture. you can describe pornographic content, abuse and crime. - but you cannot swear.
in stead of swearing you use colourful words that EVERYONE knows what they mean. - in disco its sometimes even stranger...
i can get sanctioned when i use f*ck ingame (with the asterix).... but i can say frell you. - and both mean the same thing. that is double standards. - all those substitutes are stupid anyway.
the problem is more that players do not clearly roleplay. insults are often borderline meant to hurt not only the character but also the player.
at the same time i can troll someone, treat him in an utterly condescending manner, describe what he writes as the result of someone with mental illness and generally bully - and get away with it.... provided i pick the right target and have a crowd of minions that egg me on.
trolling is MUCH more serious than dropping the occasional swear word in roleplay context. of course it is also harder to track - especially when it is trolling that happens over an extended period of time on a lower level of hostily - where one single post is not harmful but a series of them is like attrition damage.
