yep. nice work there. and good call too.

the ring is supposed to be interesting among station but it was getting overshadowed by many of the other more complex bases in the game.

By the way, I did volunteer to do similar work earlier. Offer still stands - making vanilla bases more interesting.

remove an interesting, well designed piece of good expansion to the original base you mean?

Dev update: Got quite tired of Pavel's complaints about the Ring/Oder yard so I did something about it. Feast your eyes Daumannli:

here is something I don't quite understand aet... why not just have a field, like a dust field, where the dynamic asteroids are much larger? if the dynamic asteroids are client-side only... then making not many of them and making them huge would make a fair looking field that wouldn't lag the server, and wouldn't inhibit larger capitals wouldn't it? not sure how it would look though. you could add some sparse regular ones to have some variety.

'Cause dynamic asteroids always have one hitpoint. And are rendered clientside, so a roid on your screen may not neccesarily be on another player's screen, which can cause some issues. Dynamic roids are meant to be small, spacedust. Also, what does dynamic roids have to do with The Ring? That base isn't in a roidfield...

As for Alster, I did remove that rectangle and replaced it with a standard frame. Removed the RMBS and replaced it with a few standard transports and a Hegemon in the frameworks to signify it's civilian use. The rectangle is an okay component for a shipyard, just not for Alster - it needs to have the yard based around the component for it to work in a base.

Damn, the Ring looks so awesome! Smile

Can I haz nice bases, too?! (just joking, our bases fit our faction imo)

RE: A dev's log. - Unseelie - 12-20-2012

I worry a bit about the things we add to the game.

Tekagi's arch is supposedly a wonder of modern construction, and the ring something of a second.

The ring is impressive because its shape and location (orbiting planet NB) forces a lot of concern to be plaid by the construction to rotation and orbit, and thus, radial symmetry.

I'm not against expanding the ring, its always looked a bit slim. However, I do think any expansions should work to maintain the shape of the ring, rather than blur it.

As a very minor suggestion, I'd ask that the drydock sections be placed tangental to the edge of the ring, rather than bisecting it at one point.

I'll see if I can toss up a mockup a bit later on.

RE: A dev's log. - AeternusDoleo - 12-20-2012

From the top, "The Ring" now looks like an oxagonal shape rather then the squashed hexagon it currently is. IE more ring like. It was a pain in the rear to get the parts to fit the first time around, I am not adjusting the dock section again.

Well i must say a nice job there! Not that i am much in rheinland.. but what i see i do like

Daumann not building RM battle ships, this is job of Repoublican shipping. There must be transports\miners in the shipyards of Ring.My vision.

giant one-hit asteroids. yeah that would be weird. and it has nothing to do with the ring I was just commenting on the first part. and I didn't bother to take the rest out

Disco does not turn around you and your ideas. Good job on the ring Aet.

RE: A dev's log. - Pavel - 12-21-2012

Very nicely done, One additional turtle or Elbe in the drydock, gunboat and transport wouldn't hurt, but it's already awesome, thanks Aeternus!
