Battleship Scanners were pretty much a vanity item anyways, so you really just screwed yourselves.

They definitely are a vanity item now. They used to actually have a use. Like being able to scan things at a decent range?

As far as I knew, they had the same range that the Advanced Cargo Scanner did. There was no distinct advantage over having a Battleship Scanner and were just an item alongside CAU8s for people to flail their giant e-peens around.

As far as I am aware Adv Cargo scanner has 10k range whereas BS scanner has 25k?

Last I checked was 4.86, where I'm sure a lot of people bought their scanners.
ACS and BSS were identical in .86.

Eh.
This is a game. The devs are right to change whatever they deem fit, but that doesn't mean we don't have the right to voice our displeasure when we don't like it, just like how you have the right to play white knight in your trademark speshal manner.
The first step towards making it possible for a community to have what it wants is for the members of said community to let their opinions and wants be known.
Besides, this is only a minor screwup. People complaining is the sign that people still care and have the hope to change things. When people stop complaining, you'll know that the devs really screwed the pooch.
Anywho, here's my two cents to add to the little cauldron of hate we've got going here:
I think that the BS scanner technerf is unnecessary, probably because I've been flying a freighter that's been re purposed for scanning random curiosities with my specialized scanner for the better part of a year now. The nerf isn't the end of the world, and it won't stop me from playing, but it's an unnecessary nuisance and put a rather expensive piece of equipment to waste.

I had 7 BS/Spyglass scanners, and now 6 of those are rendered useless.

You are getting the wrong end of the stick. I didn't even consider your join date in the post. In a few weeks you can easily trade enough to have bought a ton of scanners which are now worth nothing.
My question to you is this - if you have lost so much then why are you not against the devs? 7 Scanners now worthless is a lot to lose and I would rather be compensated for my lost time.
Also for your information. I actually don't own any scanners. My worth on the server does not even exceed 300m because all my characters were wiped long ago. I am merely supporting those who have lost out and because I think that some of the changes incurred recently were wrong and unnecessary.
The only thing relevant about your join date is that you were not here during the .85 glory years where there were no POBs. No stupid technerfs, scanner nerfs etc. The mod was actually going somewhere good. (except maybe Gallia)

I don't think I have the right to whine about something to devs did, they put their free time into this to make something fun for people to play, I don't pay them, they don't get payed. I just think they need more respect about what they do.
I see this as a game (some people do not seem to see it that way) and to me, the harder a game is, the more fun it is, that's why I don't really care so much about nerfs or anything. Just makes the game that much harder.
