Fairplay vs Roleplay - AceofSpades - 09-23-2008 Most of the pilots here are guys i respect and who seem to RP well. However to anyone here willing to learn, or willing to listen, please do: Recently, I deleted every capship I have and some extra characters, reducing myself to (1.5 billion credits:)) two LN chars, a RP smuggler, and a Xeno fighter. I don't own a single cap, a single code, and I do my best to roleplay. I've been quickly promoted and have enjoyed myself much more then back when I had BS's and such. I've also learned I actually do have some skill and have become remarkably proficient with the Snova. And guys, making sweet Snova kills is 1000000% funner then killing someone with any Capital Ship. Also, much more respect. My smuggler? BWT... no train turret level 4's, its got Salmanaca and Tiz turrets, which by the way are way better then Level 4 turrets. I have more fun smuggling in this cop-killer then I did in my Dragon BS. Not saying "b4h d3l3t3 y3r c4ps n00b 4nd g3t sum sk1llz." But I'm honestly having more fun playing right now then I ever have. Maybe don't delete, but just dont use your caps and ooRP ships for awhile (Yes thats you BH's and Pirates with 4 Archangels, a Tizona and an Inferno) Well whatever you do folks, just have some fun, just saying fun in these tiny little ships is very very possible!!! Fairplay vs Roleplay - Jinx - 09-23-2008 i might explain my vote for fairplay there. - fairplay does not mean that i gotto meet someone that is flying a fighter in a fighter myself to be on equal terms. fairplay can mean that i am flying my battleship alright - but when he comes up to me, i ll give him a telling off and can RP to be too lazy to deal with such an insignificant threat. of course when he starts bad mouthing or firing, he s toast. fairplay is not a perfect balance, it is just "to be fair to everyone". fairness can also be to overwhelm the enemy with a large number - if i have informed the enemy before such an epical attack. fairness is when both sides are left with decision and choices and fun to play. - unfairness can also be to use red catamarans to overwhelm everyone. unfairness can be achieved in a single liberator by exploiting the rules. i could engage a much stronger force, dodging all day long untill they all leave the fight out of boredom - unfairness is when they have to leave the system for 4 hours. unfairness comes in many disguises not just a stronger or bigger ship. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Saigo.Watanabe - 09-23-2008 Jinx you do have a point there, but you have to also remember sometimes that you cant make everything fair or equal ever, life doesnt work like that. Fairplay vs Roleplay - JohnLenin - 09-23-2008 I voted 4 fair play. But that's not that simple. First of all it should be Fair RolePlay. What I mean is that they are not mutually exclusive and it all depends on the situation. I find it perfect roleplay and in a way "fair" if some xeno/rouge get hammered around Manhattan orbit by everything lawful available there (same for all core home space or the outcast/corsair home planets etc). While we all would like to have fun on the server I would also like to feel some kind of reality - the reality of this fiction. And then we would be also back to the ZOI topic, should a pilot be there at all, is it realistic that a group field such a battle fleet there etc. Cheers, John&Jane Fairplay vs Roleplay - hologram - 09-23-2008 I vote rp, because I can think of only 2 ocasions in 4.84, which are close to cheating imo: 1. Missileboats vs xenos - xenos have Black Widows, so outnumbering them is fine, but no defence vs missileboats; 2. Bringing catamarans/blood dragon hf out of Kusari. KNF come to fights with brets in Chimaeras and GB mostly, so I am not complaining about them. But some nasty mercs, phantoms and gc have other ideas. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Dantrithor - 09-23-2008 Something i couldn't say yesterday, due to lack of time: Missile boats can also be fair against fighters/bombers. Anyone seeing mines (Eddie on his times, in most ocassions after the first period, LNS Las Vegas always) knows that, even when that gunboat is between 5 fighters/bombers, it keeps giving chances to just disengage or surrender. I give 2 warnings prior to engage, and if targets seem reluctant, i do not engage, unles fired upon. That's fair: You have an overwhelming specialized force, but give chances. I still remember a little incident with 3 xenos, in which i kept requesting them to leave/surrender at 2.4k distance, and one decided by his own that my shields were a nice target. Engaged after receiving 20% shield damage, and had to explain later to their leader that he had a little loose cannon around. But please, do not complain ever if you fire upon me first and you have to later run with the tail between your legs. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Zavier - 09-23-2008 Fairplay, definitely. Most of my characters with the exception of my lawfuls, are strictly honourable, and will give every chance to be fair in a fight....Although, I REALLY dislike it when I ask for an honour-bound duel (which is supposed to mean that noones supposed to interrupt, no matter the reason..:P) and as soon as I get the other guy down to half of his fighting potential (or even when his shields are down) his entire fleet of mates will jump on me....Which isn't really fair for them, is it? >_> <_< kidding about that last part, but yeah, its not really fair for me if I'm dueling one guy, and suddenly eight of his mates jump in. I'd like someone in a Titan try to survive that. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Jihadjoe - 09-23-2008 On the note of fairplay. I just want to appologise to Globalo, who's TBH bomber I blew up last night, I didn't realise he had gone AFK or I wouldn't have launched the two torps as you EK'd away. Sorry. Aye ... both sides need to have options. But all to often the bigger ship ends up making the decisions for both parties. There's no fun in that. Just because you are bigger and can destroy the guy or gal in front of you doesn't mean you should. This takes a bit of maturity and self-control. ' Wrote:Jinx you do have a point there, but you have to also remember sometimes that you cant make everything fair or equal ever, life doesnt work like that. So what you're saying is we should bring real life into fantasy. You do realize most people go online to "avoid" or "take leave" from the unfairness of reality. True life is unfair ... that's why we play games ... to take a break from unfairness. You say nothing is fair ... then what's the point with rules? Rules are designed to equalize ... to make an attempt to increase fairness. But when people ignore rules, over-rule, interpret rules in their own favor, bend the rules, force non-rules on those persons smaller than themselves ... well ... what you've got is Calvin Ball. In this case ... only the bully has fun. Fairplay vs Roleplay - chovynz - 09-24-2008 EVERY game that I play is not fair. Name one game that is "fair" and I'll give you an example in that game that is not fair. Everyone has the same chances and opportunities. There IS a place for overwhelming force and there is a place for one on one duels. Stop talking about it as if "fairness" actually exists! If one situation isn't fun for you seek that fun in a different system! If one person isnt fun for you then find someone else to play with! |
