For those of you who are worried about whether your captain caveman computers will run 7, disable aero. That is the only graphically intensive aspect and other than that 7 handles resources better than XP. Hell, for people that are really scared of change you can even download an XP visual pack.
But yeah, it literally does look like you people are holding the server back. Crashes can be fixed, inexplicable widely used unsupported OS' can't.
Wow ! I so love when people get criticized for not having the money to upgrade their hardware or software.
I also love when people say that Win7 handles resources better then Win XP. Hilarious i tell you.

Ok i dont get it, I play disco today morning, everything;s fine. I go out and come back, some update takes place and the next thing i know, i cant log into any of the characters anymore. What the heck is going on? I keep getting thrown into my desktop with the freelancer music still playing in the background. Can someone please help

This may seem a little late as far as the OS Argument is concerned but i really feel the need to toss a few words here:
I ran Windows 7 on a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM. It ran fine. Granted Aero didn't work due to the internal GPU being less powerful than a calculator. 64MB or there abouts and still ran Discovery. Windows 7 can adapt to different specs as my old HP described above. As for gaining the OS, it's not impossible.
There are less legal ways of doing things, sure. But considering Windows 7 is nearly a relic with Windows 10 around the corner, XP is beyond the point of redundant and the damn thing should be put in a museum considering how long it's been going around with constant use. It's a relic. Outdated. Dangerous to the modern world where cyber crime is on the rise and that thing is a cake walk for the software going around these days in terms of hacking and cyber theft. As will Windows 7 one day - but the difference is Microsoft probably plan to support it for a while after Windows 10 is released. Not to mention the OSs don't require any heavier grade hardware as they become more efficient. Hell a 1.6 GHz Dual core from AMD can Run Windows 8.1 Pro on a Netbook.
I'm afraid the World is moving on rapidly and so should the core basis of this game. I'e Newer FL hook since it probably allows more features and the game to live on. As Jammi said and i agree with to no end, this outdated OS issue is holding this place and it's potential back. Alley can't exactly cook up some more magic if it needs to run on an OS older than some people who play this game.
