Yes, I did it as my main route when I was trading up. I think if you can make it through the Wilde and the various pirates in a Rhino (And the transports from then on up) then you deserve to do it:P
Plus, after losing my account once, I was not going to spend another bajillion hours trying to get back up top.

well I dont do niobium for sure. What I used to do I think, was
Diamond to NT
e. component? to NL
... not sure, but gold to a station in NB. and so on.

eeeeh yeees it is sigma 17 hehe it is real shortcut trust me and I tell you secret, Bering isnt correct, there is jumphole in Frankfurt into Luneburg where is secret jumphole directly into Texas so you can skip Bering and Hamburg... only 10k from Frankfurt/Luneburg to Luneburg/Texas jumphole... this shortcut leet!

As the trade director of what was once a very successful trading faction, I can tell you right now that there are more than enough profitable routes that do not include the words diamonds nor niobium.

My main route.
Although it is OORP (only BD and their allies should know about chugoku), it is the most profitable/time consuming trade route, so it is my main choice.

i tried it one time, but only the diamond part, as i went through the Blood dragon system, my ship got destroyed and i never did the run again, now i do a secret route. *cough* Cardamine*cough* Slaves *cough*
