New NPC factions... - Panzer - 03-05-2007 A poll? well, considering the fact, that anyone at all responded to the idea may indicate that more will get interested in the matter, if informed. I agree. (If only i knew how to conduct such a poll....:P:laugh:) New NPC factions... - Exile - 03-05-2007 why not yust like this : 1-for the monster idea and willing to help : 2-for the monster idea, no help: 3-frak that entire monster idea: then, after some have voted, we could calculate the % ( i'll leave that to u panzer ;)) if its more then 50% then we'll do it, and those who want to help could PM me,and/or panzer. D New NPC factions... - Fellow Hoodlum - 03-05-2007 I'm sorry I seem to be finding lots of weird things on forums today ... Errr, have you actually considered any of this at all ? Last time I looked this was Discovery Freelancer, not 'Attack of the 500 foot Crab like thing' mod. Has everyone lost the plot today ? Put me down for a BIG NO ... Hoodlum New NPC factions... - Butler - 03-05-2007 Yeah, I'm not opposed to creating a new race of aliens with semi-organic ships - but a serious NO to crab monsters - if anything you should have to get a two thirds majority of all the players before you can even think of adding randomness... New NPC factions... - Qunitinius~Verginix - 03-05-2007 Whats wrong with having these? You could put a few of them into the unknown systems and players would go and attack them and get valuable commodities. There could even be RP characetrs based on being hunters. Verginix Out New NPC factions... - Craines - 03-05-2007 Mkay, now, I'm no xenobiologist, but I do know a few things... One: There is a difference between having bacteria, small prokaryote cells that can survive via chemosynthesis and photosynthesis, and having a full blown eukaryotic, multicellular behemoth. I suppose you could spin it that the crab-creature in question here is akin to a reef, where instead of a multicellular organism you have colonies, but once again, to sustain this would require more than chemo- or photosynthesis can provide. Two: The chances of these creatures evolving is catastrophically slim. Indeed, a sentient being (which I'm assuming this creature is...) having evolved separately from us, by which I mean humanity, is excessively slim. There was a formula to calculate it, but I seem to have misplaced it. Now, perhaps these space crab-creatures were the diabolical offspring of some classified space-age weapons program? That certainly would explain some of the inconsistencies... and perhaps you could say that the organism produces a kind of carapace that keeps it air-tight? Perhaps an electromagnetic reaction caused by solar winds that converts the latent energy of space into a shield capable of allowing life? Note, I am not saying that this is a good idea. I, for one, am quite against the idea of alien factions. However! However, if you do wish to do it, I would be willing to provide some back story. Assuming, of course, you'd let me help. Okay, one last point of interest: who in their right minds would eat a SPACE CRAB? That seems to be the hallmark of stupidity if someone ate something that evolved from space. "Hi honey! What's for dinner?" "Space King Crab!" "Deeeeelicious!" Just don't see that happening. Oh well, that's enough out of me. Hope this helped... somehow. Yours, Harlequinn New NPC factions... - AlexPaladinStorm - 03-06-2007 I'd have to agree. Though I'm more willing to accept the concept, it doesn't quite fit with FreeLancer. However... Harlequinn, you are forgetting about the Nomads and the Dom Kovash. New NPC factions... - Craines - 03-06-2007 Forgetting? No. Overlooking for the sake of argument? Yes. The fact that there were both the Dom Kavosh AND Nomad races evolved within such proximity gives us two theories: One - Dom Kavosh made the Nomads (Likely) Two - Science was waived to make a good story (More likely). These crab-creatures? Considering we'd only just be discovering them... it would be more of a passing event than a permanent addition. Or so sayeth me. I'm one person against the others. Yours, Harlequinn New NPC factions... - Commodore - 03-06-2007 Don Kavosh ARE the nomads, apperently. New NPC factions... - AlexPaladinStorm - 03-06-2007 ' Wrote:Don Kavosh ARE the nomads, apperently. Not really 'are', from what I remember. But the Nomads were their creations. Unless you have information that goes beyond what the Xenoarchaeologists in the Storyline gave - they said the Don Kavosh created the Nomads, and the real name of the Nomads was unpronouncable. And the Alien Artifacts from the Don Kavosh's civilization are a major commodity in the game, so you can't just overlook them. |
