Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Exsiled_one - 12-03-2009 Personally I don't really like what Joker did, mostly because he rigged two stations with explosive that aren't close to his base of operations. Last time I saw him was around Coronado, near the freelancer base there, and that's kinda far from Corsair's omega 41. But then again, if he actually talked it trough with someone who is high ranked to authorize it, and then presented it to Dab, I think it is good. It is kinda a shame that civilians used for RP are expendable, so Joker managed to hurt Dab - politically, while Dab cannot retaliate destroying anything of Joker's. But all in all I am very glad that this went trough, I bet it can only be better for next time. As for the Kusari - BHG thing, I just want to point out how does it look like when some veterans of Disco actually discuss something. Everyone can learn from civility and passive aggressiveness that is there;) Besides that, I'll use the opportunity to voice my opinion about Joker. Man, kudos for your rp, but it always leaves the bitter taste in my mouth. I don't like Batman that much because man wears underpants above his costume and solves everything with punching. If your villain was Dr. Poopsquin or some other you made up, with thugs and with same rp, I'ld love it, but like this it always leaves me a bitter taste as I said - Like you picked it up from somewhere. But don't let that put you down man, the rp still stays great and your actions contribute to this comunity. Thank you for that. Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - RmJ - 12-03-2009 life is too short, But to add to this deification of reasoning, Dab is correct on the levels of in game and forum RPs power gaming. And to note if he means no specific events to mention then everyone leave off. The business with the Joker is one I will not share my opinions about. Just constructively will say, indeed its a fair run. Now, As fun as it was to regurgitate the last few posts here, Dab i have a personal message for you. "I'm not and will not be psst off by you,' *waves arms around and passes out* Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Friday - 12-03-2009 There are always ways of dealing with powergaming. I see Joker's actions as only very light powergaming. He was really just pushing a situation that had developed naturally, upping the tension (and kudos for that) - it shows that the Joker can not only RP, but use violence as a poilitical tool - he fully deserves a Terrorist ID for this incident!). The "I Haz Honshu Governator" incident isnt such a good example. Its too obvious, lacking in political nous. I immediately saw two ways it could be made to backfire: 1) The Honshu Govenor is in Shikoku? Well he WAS heading to Liberty for a diplomatic meeting. Congrats - you just angered the Liberty governement as well as the Kusari! 2) Honshu is a Kishiro stronghold, also having a sizeable GMG minority. Congrats, you just angered the GMG as well as the Kusari! Powergaming has consequences - and the people who practice it rarely think about the 'big picture'... Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - RmJ - 12-03-2009 Quote:- it shows that the Joker can not only RP, but use violence as a poilitical tool - he fully deserves a Terrorist ID for this incident!). edit: Re-exhibited He should have requested the ID before applying the activities. Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - DeathsOverture - 12-04-2009 ProwlerPC, those were some great definitions. I sort of missed this thread, but it seems some people have learned some valuable lessons. Now the confession: I'll admit that I was a little steamed about the Joker RP until I read this thread. I had no idea that the Joker had prior consent from Official Zoner factions to cause destruction of that scale on NPC bases. I -still- am a little put off more or less, because the Joker is an imported RP, and I loathe imported RP ... but as long as the community approves it, I suppose we'll have to adapt and respect it like the Colonial RP. As long as he's not committing terrorism on NPC faction bases or player characters without consent, then I can't really complain. Anyways, as Cannon said, let's all remember to keep things fun for all parties involved! Sometimes it can be fun to play along; I spontaneously RP'd the death of my GMG trade ship captain as he ran for his life from some Wilde in Omega-11. It ended up leading to some really fun roleplay later on with the same wilde character (Betrug!) I also let the -]NTF[- "capture" my Freelancer character Seleucous Wright for destroying two of their ships and then seeing the Junction. He ended up using the rewards he got from Pryce Research to repay the damages. His journey has been by far the most fun of any of my characters. Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - McNeo - 12-04-2009 ' Wrote:The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that the LN didn't even attempt to negotiate. Just said that they don't pay terrorists, and that was about the extent of their RP. Fortunately, the BHG player RP'd well enough for the both of them. (Not because he paid the ransom, just his general RP. For example, after I gave him the BHG NPCs, he also demanded that I send over the injured LN cadet that I had shot.) I think I remember seeing that while I was on Christina. Not sure if logged off before you finished your roleplaying that situation, but I distinctly remember shaking my head and ignoring it. It may have been rude, but Im not going to hand out money for NPC pilots unless it's an arranged event or it's someone I know. Why? Elsdragon explained it in a pretty blunt way, but you'd be surprised to know that we get a lot of people with Liberty Navy pilots trying to swap them for credits or their life, if they're a gunboat which has surrendered. A good example of this was a thread that Tales made. Something about self destructing his gunboat (and all the "hostages" on it) because we wouldn't allow him to surrender. In my opinion, the KNF/BHG event was different. Yes, it involved NPC pilots, but the KNF simply wanted them back with a pledge that the BHG would no longer involve itself with handing people of the KNF to Bretonia. I don't see anything bad in that. Then again, I'm bias, being both KNF and LN. On the Joker, at first I didn't like it. But, his posts are great to read and it's pretty obvious that he knows his RP just as well as some of the most accomplished here. For him to make such a big play against the Zoners would require prior planning, especially since the last time that it happened unplanned with the QCP, we saw far more OOC bickering than this time. As soon as the Zoners here responded within RP, it should have been obvious to everyone that there was at least some communication between the Joker and the big Zoner players to make it happen. Edit: Theres also that nice thread about the eccentric dude holding a nuke over Deshima station in the communications forum. You can guess why no one has responded to it... ( "if we ignore it, it'll go away" sort of thing) Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Errant.Venture - 12-31-2009 I find it Ironic that you started this thread, then dropped this bit of powerplay: Aurelia leaned back in her small office chair, rhythmically tapping the arm rest with her fingernails, trying to think of how to begin... "Zoners, and other Sirians this message is bound to reach, I wish to apologize to you, and to tell you what I've hidden for the last thirteen years." Aurelia smiled nervously, "it's ironic really, given what has been said about me these past few months since the schizm created by our two different ideals of what a Zoner is." She let out a sigh of resignation, "I still can't think of how to say this, so I'll just be blunt with you. I'm a lie. You know me as Aurelia Silvan but my true name is Aurelia DeFrance. I'm the eldest daughter of King Louis DeFrance of the Gallic Royal Family. I'm sure many of you won't believe this, either because it sounds ludicrous or for a myriad of other reasons. Granted, a well-known Zoner leader isn't who I'd suspect of being part of the royality of a house monarchy. But then, that was the point." She smiled mockingly, "I've been called the 'Queen of the Zoners' before, but Princess would be more appropriate. 'But why would a member of the Gallic royal family be in Sirius? And masquarading as a Zoner?' Well, that would be because, unlike other children of privilege, our future leaders aren't raised in plush palaces tutored and pampared by servants. How can a nation rely on someone to lead them after the King's passing if she has no idea what the real world is like? How could they rely on someone who has yet to live in the conditions the common person has to endure throughout their life?" "A proper leader must be raised in conflict, even if it means their life is threatened from time to time." She laughed, "besides, it was quite amusing at times. Watching how you people argued and fought over the pettiest little things. It's a surpise Sirius hasn't devolved into total civil war already. So, were the accusations that I had lied to the Council of Zoners accurate? Well, yes, it would be, though not for the reasons the Alliance thought they were." Aurelia dropped her smile and straightened her back. "If the Zoners are to live through what is to come they must change. You have spent more time quarraling with each other than fixing the problems that caused those arguments in the first place. You need to face the fact that the people of Sirius view you as a joke. A weak group of pacifists too afraid to defend themselves or enforce their own decisions if it means making someone angry with you. The galaxy is not a friendly place, and nothing will last if it isn't fully determined to survive no matter what it takes. This is a lesson the Zoners have yet to learn, and until they do they will forever be Sirius' punching bag. Take the last advice a liar has to offer you." "Aurelia DeFrance out." So If I read this correctly, You started turmoil and chaos in the zoner faction, then decide your royalty? Well I am the Emperor of Sirius, and I feel like deposing you in a bloody coup. Seriously....Ironic. Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Zeltak - 12-31-2009 Powerplaying is good and so is metagaming, I encourage you to do it more it is very healthy for the community! Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Sprolf - 12-31-2009 Uh, Cameron, that would be if it hadn't been planned from the beginning or agreed on by the Gallic royalty. Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying - Akura - 12-31-2009 If your character knows something they shouldn't know, that they didn't learn firsthand... You're Powergaming/Metagaming/Powerplaying... 'Nuff said. Joker though... the moment he loses that effing import is the moment I'd consider him worth of a Terrorist ID... I hate the Joker, not the player, the character from the batman universe, too overused. Originality dude... originality. |
