Stay in the Starflea and hire an escort, then run the risk of not being able to reenter New York if you get killed there.
Buy a freighter, and use stealth routes to get to the freeports even though it takes longer.
Bribe pirates off, when they stop you.
Get the system Lawfulls to help you.
All the above.
That should cover it all.

Just sign up here (you did that), and be at Manhattan at the designated time, in the Starflea without any new equipment.
What happens after the start of the event, what you buy with the supplied money, how you get to the freeports and so on, is completly up to you. If you want to fly another ship, upgrade the starflea, hire escorts etc.
The basic idea behind this event, is to interact with people, while having a goal to fullfill. Its your choice how you fullfill the goals of the event. Just stay within the Server Rules, and within the Event rules as listed in this thread.

"This is a special utility craft provided for utilization in capturing images. It exists outside of the RP environment. Utilizing it for any purpose other than cinematography, or via specific permission granted, can result in repercussions. "
