Flak - mohr - 09-04-2007 Correct me if I am wrong, but the damage flak deals to the vanilla ships are a problem. I am under the impression that the reason is because the vanilla ships has a multi part wireframe while the new ships that are being added either have one solid wireframe or very few parts. (please correct me/clarify if I am wrong) Now if the real factor is that the new ships do not have proper SUR files there, is always the option of removing the "correct" SUR files from the vanilla ships. This would make all ships equally resistant to explosive weapons. Then the damage can be cranked up on the explosive weapons to make them a viable option. This, of course, does not change the weapons stripping issue flak creates... I like Tortured Souls idea if it works. Mohr Flak - Tortured_Soul - 09-05-2007 Re-reading yep, looks like I missed that. The only way to solve that is to reduce the damage or the explosive radius. 'Cause of the way that explosions are dealt with in FL any 'active' object within the radius will recieve the full amount of damage of the explosion. 'Active' objects include, Ships Main Body, Ships Extra Addons (such as wings), Ship Equipment (including Shields, Weapons, Minelayers, CM Launchers, Thrusters, anything with a mounting point) and obviously destroyable barrels and debris. That means that if the ship getting hit has the Main Body, and four destroyable wings (don't include equipment, they all have thier own health and don't effect ship damage) then the full amount of damage you'l recieve will be 10000 x 5 = 50000 hit points. Like I've already said, reduce the damage, reduce the explosive radius, reduce the proximity exposion (the distance that it blow's up form it's target) or make it much much harder for flak turrets to hit fighters (by seriously reducing the rate at which the turret turns). That's my take on it. But by definition Flak, is supposed to cover a large area, it's just been in the FL engine as best Igiss could do. Flak - Dab - 09-05-2007 Even if all ships had wireframes (or lack of them) flak is still going to be overpowered. In one hit, one single measly hit, EVERY piece of equipment, wing, etc except maybe the thruster, shield, and mine dropper, is destroyed, One hit, not two, not three. Just one. Its damage output is FAR greater than it should be. Flak - Eppy - 09-05-2007 Yes, I honestly agree. Personally, I think if anything we need Capital Ship Torpedoes in place of flak (which can't do splash damage. The torps, not flak, though that too). They'd do horrendous amounts of damage and be unpleasantly slow, and cost a good million or two a shot. Flak - Tortured_Soul - 09-05-2007 Everyone would still use the Battle Razors and Novas, anything that costs money is BAAAD! I'd rather kep the cash and take my chances with the weaker weapon if I thought I stood a chance. Flak - Eppy - 09-05-2007 Another Flak horror story: In my Liberty Dreadnought down in Gamma, the NovaPG and AW were having a go at Corsairs when along comes the BSG with 3-4 Battlestars and two Albatrosses. Now, two of the Battlestars are down , and I'm all alone with this one half-shield Battlecruiser. I haven't broken into my Batts/Botts at all. My shield is half gone. ONE Albatross took me down, in a Liberty Dreadnought. Flak - Panzer - 09-05-2007 So that wa you?! That albatross wasnt alone I was fla(n)king you from Galactica. (was a balanced fight imo - you had more and better caps, we had a few ships with flak guns) Flak - Equinox - 09-05-2007 Ive got to say i disagree with the use of flaks in that battle, its just an unfair weapon on vanilla ships, i would rather win a battle/fight without such a weapon. I hope you noticed that i was not using flaks and there was none mounted on the Astureus. I still managed to do a great deal of damage to other ships without that weap. Flak - frozen - 09-06-2007 ' Wrote:So that wa you?! dude, all ure cap ships, well most of them had flaks, and u know what flk does to vanilla ships...not really fair now is it? (dont mean to start a flame war or anything. just saying that to show how badly the flak needs to be nerfed) Flak - TankTarget - 09-06-2007 Let me add this about flak, it's unfair against any ship... because that bastardized weapon does severe damage to non vanilla ships as well, because of the sheer splash it knocks most guns off in a hurry. And still does horrendous damage. Plus it will eviscerate fighters, bombers, and the like. And the BSG have seriously pissed me off with this flaking from what i heard. Pegasus said he had no flak on board. And thus the whole BSG fleet was armed with flak. The lot of em, the ONLY REASON that BSG wants flak to stay is because it's the best weapon. Why do you think every ship is armed with it and they all want to keep it? I saw one of their fights against the Nova PG, they were decimated in seconds to a lesser force than today. And now that they use flaks they win or lose by a little. Although the one battle i was a victim in the alliance won. It's bull**** sorry no way around it. That wasn't balanced, I mean come now.... destroying a Lib dread in 5 seconds? Even with heavy mortars that cannot be done. And especially by an anti-aircraft weapon. That is not actually supposed to be uber regardless. Flak in WWII took thousands of guns to bring down fighters and often times it only ever got a few BOMBER... high speed fighters rarely went down. |
