"The medicine starts to work? That's good news."

He smiled at Jennet then turned around to John

"Anything you need for the order can be found in the makeshift hospital."

He then turned away from him again and turned to Andrew

"And you Mr. Ross. What I should do, is bring you to the authorities... However you meant it good, and you could also be a good researcher when you do not ignore safety rules. The Medics could use a man like you."

John nodded and walked out of the room swiftly.

"Hmm, The Medics... that sounds interesting, all this medical research affair was quite exciting, even if exhausting and terrifying at times. I shall think about it. If that is an offer, that is.", Andrew looked up at the ceiling and got lost in his thoughts.

"That would be a quite a good solution, if you ask me" Jennet said thoughtfully, "Something to channel your excitement and contain your disregard for social and legal norms. If I knew your energy and skills are put on a good use, I think I could convince OSC board of directors to drop any legal charges against you and settle the matter quietly."

John entered the room again and turned to Dr. Whitesun, "I sent a request to Cryer. You should receive a Carbon Copy soon."

He then turned to Jennet, "So, is it getting better?"

She looked back at him and frowned at first, "Better, what? Oh, yes, the medicine and illness, almost forgot," She fell silent, touched the throat and breathed a couple of times deeply, "Amazing, indeed. It is now way better than it was."

He looked at the copy he received.

"They are not responding it seems. Maybe try ExoGeni, perhaps they do respond."

He walked over to Jennet and observed her for a while.

"There is a reply," John took his datapad and looked at it in disbelief, "Did... did they put us on hold? What do they think we have here, a few cuts in fingers?"

He glanced over room at Jennet, then decided something and worked on the datapad for a few minutes.

"While they deal with their bureaucracy it's time to deal with ours. This is shorter and simpler, though. You should soon find 50 million SC transferred to your Firefly's account, the fee as mentioned in original transmission."

John finished the recording of transmission and put the device aside, "Hmm, well, they are on their way at least. Hopefully they will not get lost on their way."

Jennet shifted in her seat, "Probably we should start organizing the distribution of the medical now, so that we are prepared when it finally is delivered here. Sort of a queue or a list... Doctor, are there any standart procedures to employ in such cases?"

"This whole situation isn't standard. However the procedure will be fairly easy, as long as all comm systems works and everyone can be contacted without problems.

We will distribute the medicine in the make-shift hospital, that place is obviously the most suitable. We should divide the people into groups, each group should come to the hospital at a time designated for that specific group. It would be useful to put something to work like fences so people can form a nice row in front of the door. Only one person at once should come in.

So what I need is every single passenger listed and all of them should be possible to be contacted to inform them on when they will have to come.

In the mean time me and my people will prepare the hospital itself."

He looked around and then nodded in approval.

"So off we go, and let's hope those Cryer-people show up."

"Groups, yeah, good idea," John thought for a second, " I think basing them on location would be the most suitable. We should start with people in acute state, so those from medical bay should be the first on list. Then we can just work through decks, sending people to make-shift hospital in groups of, say, fifty. Fences will not be a problem, we use similar method on boarding procedure"

John took his communication device and started making an internal call to a crewman in charge. Yet, as an answer crackled, he hesitated for a few moments, then walked to the table and slid the device over to Jennet.

"It's your ship, captain. Welcome back to duty," he grinned.

Jennet looked blankly at the device. Then her eyes sparkled and she grabbed it almost frantically. Within seconds the room was filled with her voice sharply and precisely giving orders and commands to various parts of Hawaii.

John turned to Dr. Whitesun, "I will oversee the re-connection of both liners. People aboard Lightning will need means of getting to Hawaii's hospital as well."

"Ahem!" It was Andrew Ross, who had been silent and mostly motionless for a good while, "Erm, you mind, doc, if I go with you and, I don't know, like... give a hand in hospital, or try to, at least. I know a thing or two, and, ehm, I think I learn fast" He made his characteristic shrug.

The doctor walked around in the hospital, obviously annoyed. He looked to Andrew.

"Cryer isn't coming, that much I know. And in the mean time more people are dying. Can't have that. We should contact ExoGeni, I'm confident they will do it. They need every job they can get unlike Cryer, who already have everything and barely have to work for their money."

He shook his head and headed for the Lightning, he asked someone for the location of John and continued his way. When he finally found him he spoke.

"Captain, I need you to contact ExoGeni, Cryer has let us wait for too long and I'm confident ExoGeni will not dissapoint us like they did."

John checked for updates on Cryer progress in his datapad. He frowned seeing none.

"Indeed, they are seriously behind schedule. I doubt they have even departed yet. Screw them, I'll forward the transmission to ExoGeni immediately"

The transport approached cutting a smooth, curved line around the beautiful blue of Planet Hiran; a Line to the Hawaii was opened and the transport crew introduced themselves. '€œHawaii docking control, This is Cryer Gold fourteen: we have two isolation crews and a Co-ordinator acting under a prevention and control of disease legislation. Please begin mooring procedures'€¦'€
The airlock door slowly opened, guards flanking Co-ordinator quickly snapped to attention, bracing their rifles, as the doctor languidly raised a open hand in ease '€œStand down men; no need for this to get messy: these are our hosts '€“ the esteemed and rugged medics I presume'€¦'€ he let the query hang for a moment before clicking his fingers: summoning a beautiful, skulking woman; '€œOf course, the doctor and I had to leave a particularly enthralling game of scrabble in order to make sure this resort becomes safe, and stays that way: he is eager to begin proceedings.'€ she handed the pistol wielders some illuminated, legal-looking, literature.
  • Under human rights and disease control ordinance sections one hundred and thirteen, article xi, and section one, article four: the assigned body or bodies of medical institutions are hereby authorised to enforce quarantine and isolation of infected or possibly infected areas, until all medical personnel agree that said area is free of potentially harmful infectious agents.
  • There shall be no incoming or outgoing traffic during the aforementioned period.

  • All patients and personnel must be accounted for and assigned a treatment/processing group.

  • Patients and all staff must stay within designated '€˜recovery'€™ zones. Special '€˜medical convenience'€™ cards will be issued to allow essential personnel access to defined operational areas.

  • Appropriate safety gear must be worn at all times. In this instance this may include: gloves, face masks, re-breathers, isolation suits, etc'€¦

  • Ventilation systems and atmospheric generators must conform to Sirian standard guidelines. Filters must be present in each major airflow junction able to detect airborne concentrations of particles down to one part per million.

  • All environmental alert systems must be plainly visible to the relevant staff, and tested every forty standard Sirius days to ensure working order.

  • All ventilation, environmental, and life support systems must undergo a full disinfectant flush, be atomically scrubbed, treated with anti-bacterial retardants and rinsed with purified water.

  • Any machine or part thereof that cannot be subjected to the necessary cleansing must be dismantled, destroyed and replaced.

  • Any pregnant patients must each be isolated and individually examined. A series of prenatal test will also be necessary.

  • In-vitro fertilisation or the conception of a child within the quarantine area is not permitted.

  • It may sound absurd, and we are certainly not prudish: but we are serious as a heart-attack when we say no copulation whilst this infection is present. If a child is conceived by parents whose blood contains this disease or a strain of it, there are four possible outcomes for the child:
It will have difficulties developing and at birth.
It may survive and develop immunity to the disease.
It may survive and become a carrier for the disease.
It may survive and become host to an inconceivable mutation of the disease.
The latter two options of course mean a spread of the disease would also occur, which cannot be permitted.
(We'€™ve seen how people act in a crisis; a lot will try to mount the nearest piece of fresh meat with wild abandon: fear of death can bring people together, as I'€™m sure you can imagine.)

  • Treatment groups may not interact physically with other treatment groups until both parties are cleared and moved out of the quarantine zone.

  • At the co-ordinators discretion, after decontamination procedures it may be necessary to expose certain areas of the ship to the vacuum of space.

The Co-ordinator spoke '€œRight - here'€™s the medicine you requested and our people here can help you distribute it if you please'€ as he lifted his arm: gesturing over the the huddled sets of fresh faces over white coats and red trousers; the congregation flinched as his arm lifted, as if fearing some giant object in flight. Of course we will need a suitable office from which to operate'€¦'€ he mused to himself as the ranks of red trousers began passing forth crates, marked with the distinctive wordiness of Cryers'€™ medical labelling.
