Nowadays people have so many chars . perhaps too many ... - William Frederick Cody - 04-03-2012

I have 25 ships in total currently. 22 of them are used only be one char. William Frederick Cody:

- 5 regular shops
- 7 depots
- 8 Bank ships
- 1 private fighter (anonymous name)
- 1 private yacht (anonymous name)

2nd char: [Convoy]Butcher_Hank

3rd char (used 2 hours in total): Something rheinlandish

4rd "char": [The_Angels]Cody, but does that count as a char?

As was mentioned, I think you're confusing character with player. Those of us who like to play make-believe (aka RP) like to have different choices available.

Corsair gunboat - Crete defense force - long live Crete!
P-Trans, Freelancer IFF Pirate ID - independant pie-rat (who hates Gallia now!)
Liberty Navy gunboat - Filthy Rheinlanders, hiding in Liberty space
Libery Police fighter - Could I have a Sunbucks and donut, please? Oh, and your tail light is out...
Freelancer Firefly - Freelancer ID & IFF - because you can't take the sky from me
Order Resheph - Humanity first! Maintain an eye on the Guild Core and Aliens that threaten human kind
GRN gunboat - Filthy Sirian dogs - abandoned us to die, they must pay!
Zoner battleship - FREEDOM! And big guns to ENFORCE our freedom and neutrality.
Two different transports - because cargo needs hauled, someone needs to be a truck driver

BHG ... basically everything. Being devious and power hungry with the Core, and just out to collect bounties with my in-house hunters. Heck, only have a battleship, two battlecruisers, a dessie, two Mantas, two bombers, and a gunship.

K|Hara - one personality, three different ships, since that's how ***we*** are...

Really what is so wrong with multiple chars?
If you die you need to follow 4 hour rules, so having other chars makes sense.
Now my ALG transport gets blown up because i refuse to pay 10mil to pirate(toxic waste 47K to buy, really?) so i log it off, and go to say my Bowex transport on other side of sirius, or maybe my Gaillic transport. Makes sense, and no chance to violate 4hour rule(even though it is a trans).
Or say my LSF fighter dies in NY taking on some pirate, I go jump into my Hessien, or Corsair many systems away for more pew pew with no chance of 4hour rule violation again.
Now many have multiple ships for 1 char. I got 5 junker ships for 1 char. If he is shot i have to avoid 5 ships as they all opperate out of same system. If 5 was limit now i could not play for 4 hours, or i would have to change that chars RP and leave the system he works in.
Also sometimes having ships/chars all over sirius just makes sense for off hours when player count is low. Do you really want to play a Corsair for example when not 1 other player is anywhere in the Omicrons, or Omega's? Quite boring.

I say the more the merrier.
Also what Ryoken said above. - I'm actually in agreement with ryoken - someone shoot me quick.
Especially this:

I've only a handful of characters but a ton of ships for each of them.

Plus the more characters you have the more risks you're likely to take. I know folks who avoid fights just because they have no alternative to fall back upon if they happen to die in combat.

Actually, for several months, I played with ONE ship. The game was way more intense. Now I got lazy because of all the options and possibilities of an experienced player, and I have one ship to log in liberty, one ship to log in rheinland and so on, some pirate, same lawful, some to make cash, some to make fun... No travelling, saves time, freedom of choices... blah blah.

Loyalty to char? Style of play? Incomparable.

I traded helium or what in pennsylvania. For breathtaking two millions, I bought CSF. Then I flied freelancer Junker combat freighter, stealing loot from ossirises which were killed by my bomber friends. When I collected money, I repped IMG and changed that ship for IMG gunboat. No /restart, no double bribes. How scared I was when patrolling O7 for pirates. One mistake = fly all the way somewhere else, because of 4 hour rule. Getting money? Hell, I flied missions. I traded with ore from O7 in my GUNBOAT's cargo hold. How happy I was when I killed someone with 70 reinforced cruise disruptors.. The cash, man!

And now? You gather via skype, you raid liberty with some rheinlandish lolgank, when you die, you switch to img to powertrade some money to buy cau8 for your osiris, and when you fly that osiris and see some hessian docking at freeport before gamma raid, you write reports, because omg roleplay rules. And you think how hardcore faction roleplayer you are. Seriously, wtf?

The only true roleplay is one char. Everything else is metagaming.
Not saying if it's good or bad. But imagine how different disco would be if everyone played only one char.

Reading the forums is also metagaming.
