I fly VHF's mostly. My Outcast flies a Sabre....LOVE that ship!!, My Lane Security pilot flies a Viper II. And my BH Guard commander proudly flies a BH Assult Battlecruiser.
And of course, my trader loves his Adv. Train with the new Biohazard containers. :crazy:

Five fighters, two bombers, three transports.
Fighters are: 1 LF, 4 VHF. Guess that makes me a generic fighter pilot. Fighters used are the Hussar (LF), the Greyhound, the Eagle, the Blood Dragon and the Sabre (VHFs).

Anyway...
I have lowered the amount of characters I have recently to 3 fighters, 3 bombers, 2 gunboats/gunships, and 1 BS. I fly my bombers much more. (1 fighter, bomber, and capship for each faction I'm in.)

Interesting vote here.... most people actually prefer the fighter. Then why do I see nothing but capships when I get on? Oh that's right, most players are ub3r pwnz0rs who don't bother with the forums:dry:

Whats with everyone and VHF's though? They want Eagles which are maneuverable but they also want Firepower...

yea, I think the poll is skewed a bit as a lot of players dont seem to be posting.
I'm fairly certain that a large portion of the 'capwhores' you see in game have either never read the rules or never visit these forums, and simply use the ships because they're powerful and not for RP purposes.
Unfortunately, a lot of us who genuinely use capships for RP rather than combat effectiveness get grouped/generalized in with those who really do 'capwhore', and it makes us all look bad.
personally, I'm no good at pvp no matter what I'm in =P I can dodge a lot in a fighter but I'll never hit anything. I dodge a lot less, and tend to die more in pvp, when i'm in a capship... and I still never hit anything. I use capships because it lets me type a little easier in combat without dying the second I stop dodging, and because... well... I come from the whole star trek / star wars fan base, where it makes more sense that spaceships be larger vessels.
I mean really, who would want to be cramped up in a fighter that had:
a) no room to move
b) no 'facilities' when you had to go
c) no food, or very little - same goes for water
d) no place to sleep
for hours or days at a time on deep space missions? IMO, fighters are reserved for battleship/carrier and station/planet defense or short-duration missions only. It doesnt make sense to put someone in even a VHF and send them out on a week long mission with no place to land... that would be one smelly cockpit when you got back.
And, since one of my primary interests in freelancer is exploring all the borderworlds systems, a larger ship that can both survive and makes sense for such a mission fits me better.
