Thoughts That Win - n00bl3t - 03-14-2011 "Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves." - Henry David Thoreau. Thoughts That Win - tansytansey - 03-14-2011 The inspirational saying: "Aim for the Moon, because even if you fail you'll end up among the stars." While obviously poetic the truth is that you'll just shoot through the vacuum of space for the rest of your life and wait to die. And if you aim at just the correct spot, you will actually miss the Moon, circle it, turn back to Earth, and burn up in the atmosphere. It also presumes that the Moon is a bigger goal to shoot for than the stars - even though the stars are astronomically larger and, also, further away. Not to mention that, depending on the time of day, the moon could be on the other side of the planet which means that all you'll end up with is a mouth full of dirt and a mild concussion. Thoughts That Win - VoluptaBox - 03-14-2011 All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets. Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung. Common sense is not so common. Divorce is probably of nearly the same date as marriage. I believe, however, that marriage is some weeks the more ancient. My favourite one: I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. ~Voltaire I'll add more when I finish the book 8-| Thoughts That Win - Rommie - 03-14-2011 "There is nothing in this world that is truly "perfect". Though it may be a rather large cliché, it is still the truth. It is the ordinary people who look up to "perfection" as an ideal and seek after it. But in truth, what is this idea of "perfection" truly worth? Nothing. Not a single thing. I detest "perfection". To be "perfect" is to be unable to improve any further. There would be no scope for "creation", not a single gap in one's knowledge or one's ability. Do you see now? To true scientists like you and I, "Perfection" is tantamount to "despair". We aspire to reach greater levels of brilliance than ever before, but never, NEVER, to reach perfection. That is the paradox through which we scientists must struggle. Indeed, it is our duty to find pleasure in that struggle. In other words, the second you allowed yourself to spout a ridiculous word like "perfect", in truth, you had already been defeated. That is if you wish to be treated as a scientist." ~Mayuri Kurotsuchi Thoughts That Win - Kontrazec (Somni) - 03-17-2011 "Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law,is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant; 'If I live,I will kill you. If I die,you are forgiven.' Such is the rule of honor." -Randall Blythe, frontman of Lamb of God Thoughts That Win - n00bl3t - 03-31-2011 "If the machine of government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law." - Henry David Thoreau. Thoughts That Win - Zelot - 03-31-2011 The Masses are asses. Thoughts That Win - Sand-Viper - 03-31-2011 When you assume, you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me" ...I was taught that by my father:mellow: Thoughts That Win - kidd_meier - 04-01-2011 ' Wrote:"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself; nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." - Franklin Delano Roosevelt. "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear. Even if you miss, you'll at least not end up shooting lour leg" Ascribed to General Count Piotr Pier Vorkosigan (You want to read something intelligent, witty and funny - go to Mrs. Bujold. She never disapoints, blessed her heart:)) Which reminds me of another one "Honesty is the only way with anyone, when you'll be so close as to be living inside each other's skins" Admiral Count Aral Vorkosigan explaning love to his son Miles And another one (god I love this woman - she always delivers such feasts for my mind) A weapon is a device for making your enemy change his mind. The mind is the only battlefield that matters. Everything else is just ... fuss.
