It's really scarce to play and enjoy the same game for a long time. In that "long time" I mean three, four or more years. The generation which already had their time needs substitutes. Lag or a new mod aren't the only problems which declines our population. We also have a lack of newcomers. Everything are transient and cannot always stay in one status. There're two kinds of people. They've one thing in common: They'll surely leave one day. But the difference between them is that some of them will surely come back, but some not. I took a break many times, from time to time, since 2009.That's not something improbable, but in such case not everyone comes back. Now another case: On most sites I encounter the advertisement of "War Thunder",which of course play en essential role in growing the population. Maybe advertisements are the things that our community need the most. RE: How do we reduce player apathy/Leaving rates? - t0l - 04-07-2014 I don't think we can control the coming and going of players. Being less harsh on newer players could help, but as you can see the aforementioned groups are still here for the most part. ZA, DW, Judges, and GBS, to name a few. It's a fact of nature. People just come and go. Nothing we can do about it. RE: How do we reduce player apathy/Leaving rates? - Sciamach - 04-07-2014 Eat the same food for months on end and sure, you'll get tired of it. Same thing with games. Even the most fun and entertaining things in the world can get boring if done often enough, and frequently enough. Eventually though, we all forget monotony and remember our fond memories of this place and some decide to come back. Shit, I've quit disco before and I'm back.... none of you knew me back then cos I was a scrub but hey, it counts. RE: How do we reduce player apathy/Leaving rates? - Swallow - 04-07-2014 Reduce? RE: How do we reduce player apathy/Leaving rates? - Highland Laddie - 04-07-2014 Quote:One idea would be if the admins set up pre-designated Rp/PvP events for bundles of factions once a week. Result: instant fulfilment, despite some timezone complaints. This is or should be part of the responsibility of the Official Factions, not necessarily just the Admins. My #1 suggestion for improving the server in-general just goes back to a simple rule: Don't be a dick. Nothing ruins fun quicker than people getting angry and being mean to one another. Sure, getting blown up or losing something you worked hard for is frustrating, and everybody has their moments of gaming-induced rage. But the real trouble comes when people are being intentionally rude, hostile, or troll-ish just because they can. That goes for constant complaining and a general- unappreciative attitude towards devs/mods/admins as well. Treat others well, be friendly and patient to noobs, and enforce laws to keep the trouble-makers in-line or gone. I think that's the single, best solution to keeping things fun. The rest is up to the creative juices of the community. Because if its about sanctions on some new players, then the new players should read the rules beforehand attempting anything in Disco space. |
