Could we actually have the timer reset without screwing up the thing that you need to update the ship for it to register for counting?

I doubt it matters much. If you are active enough, whether one day your activity is logged and the other is not.

If faction is already treading on thin line, maybe they should just step the game up.

24 hours seems reasonable. 5 members honestly seems a bit excessive.
A faction can contribute perfectly well with four or even three members.

Edit: We had 30 hours, five members before. Why not retain the proportion, 24 hours, four members?
