i am for the idea of messages that don't say that they killed your character.

that way the game is more rp. good job on this idea.

<charname>'s hull has been seriously damaged by <charname>

that would fix many things like:

-player being a pilot
Adam's hull has been seriously damaged by Phantom

-player being a ship/harvester/nomad
The Titanic's hull has been seriously damaged by Phantom

-Trader respawning to go on another trade rute
Duchess Transport's hull has been seriously damaged by Phantom

' Wrote:I've noticed that the current death messages aren't really RP, since they basically in RP kill player's character. For example:

"Player" sadly shot themselves in the head.
"Player 1" was killed by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)

So wouldn't it be better to change them to something like:

"Player" suffered a ship-wide malfunction and was forced to eject.
"Player" had a malfunction in their ejecting system.
"Player 1" was forced to eject by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)
"Player 1" was forced to eject because their ship was destroyed by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)

Or something like that.

Any opinions?
This is a good idea which should be taken into consideration.

A thought:

How about "Player fell to the guns/missiles/torpedoes/mines (use the appropriate weapon here) of player"

I do not like all that long sentences on my screen and i do not think it is a enrichment to RP at all.
Make it simple, like:

Kill: ''Player'' defeated by ''Player''
Suicide: ''Player'' resigned

Server death messages - Orin - 02-28-2009

Quote:Kill: ''Player'' defeated <strike>by</strike> ''Player''
Suicide: ''Player'' resigned
That.

(Sometimes I might RP that my ship was critically damaged, but was able to limp back to base within RP. This allows that, and is not intrusive.)

Yes. Remove the damn "totally".

Simple - elegant - allows for what actually happens in this game and also for what we may want to RP.

Yep, I like these ones. Only problem I can see is when you planet-dive from being missile-spammed and it says you've "resigned" when you've just gone and got another ship. But that could be sorted out in RP somehow, I'm sure.

However, I like Tic's death messages as well. They're clear and simple as well.

Basically, anything but the new ones.
