To me it sounds like fun, and actually if you want to make it RP, then you should say 4 chosen people from each sector Kusari, LIberty, Rhienland and Bretonia can join without discrimination and well disciplined.
And a Clash of Steel being an event or Competition in itself is role playing maybe not crystal clear but we all have different points of view of what is what.
Instead of bashing him give him advice.
Or you can say 16 Competitors 16 ships welcome all to the clash of steel 16 come in and only 1 may alive. So if you die you have to change the character name. There are plenty of ways we can make this Event or Competition Role play. Give him a chance.

This event is in a way RP, think of it like Freelancer Olympics. The best of sirius come to pit their skills against eachother in a series of deathmatches, where one will emerge the winner and claim the Cash Prize.
there will be Opening Fights > QuarterFinal > SemiFinal > Finale.
Trying to get fighters from the 4 houses would complicate things as it would take longer to get people to sign up, Clash of Steel is exactly that! a free for all PVP event.

Blackwidow... trial by forum like that is lame. It'd be decent to remove it. Also when you ask for people to join you can hardly just kick them out based on what happened on other chars no ? + You're going to need every contestant you can get it seems.
