If you can keep him from both cruising up to you and dodging your forward gun -maybe- that would work... but unfortunately you can't.

Both get shredded by good cruisers. I have fought a few of these in my Vidars and done pretty well.... except one time vs 3 scorpions. Damn Mwerte and his stalling tactics.
I wish I was good enough to take up this challenge. I have killed n00b LABC and bret cruisers in my gunboats, no one with knowledge of weapons grouping.

I've solo'd a Bret Dessie with my Kusari GB, but I think the pilot was inept. I'd be interested in trying my luck here.
