Shadows of JiangXi - Tomtomrawr - 01-05-2011 ![]() Birds. There were no birds. Miller was trying to find details to associate with a happier time, such as jogging through fields on Cambridge. He remembered sitting down, having a drink and listening to the birds sing in the trees. But there was no singing on JiangXi. Now that the rain had died down he could hear more of the jungle, and apart from occasional rustles there was no sign of life or happiness. It was a Hell, if not Hell itself. Miller had kept away from the estate after hearing the sentinel guns blaze for several seconds, then fall silent. The number of creatures - or the power of one - needed to overcome sentinel guns would be far more than Miller could handle fighting. So he'd kept moving south, deciding to reach the city, New HangZhou, and find a building to rest in. Eight, or even six hours of sleep and a meal would give him the strength he needed to continue on his odyssey toward the southern coast and the islands. His radiation meter beeped wildly, and Miller immediately backtracked until it stopped. It'd been the first time the device had made a sound. He must've just been lucky to avoid bad radiation pockets, but now it appeared that his luck had run dry. He knew he couldn't try pushing through it. He didn't know how strong the radiation was, or how large the impassable zone was. He could die in minutes. No, he'd have to find a way around. Miller turned ninety degrees and began trudging west, occasionally pushing south until his radiation meter beeped again to tell him he hadn't found a safe path yet. He'd need to find one soon, or else his odyssey would end when the creatures of the forest caught up with him. Shadows of JiangXi - Pacific - 01-05-2011 ![]() Petko was walking towards the city of New HangZhou he believed there he will have the opportunity to scare off more recruits and eventually encounter more creatures. He walked calmly and quetly, from his last encounter with the hunter Dimitrov decided not to take risks and fire with only 54 mm ammo, in case something similar comes again. As he was abut to cross a bridge his radiation indicator beep't. He decided to try and go around the Radiation Zone. It was no problem for Petko suit but why waste it. After 10 minutes of walking Dimitrov saw a figure of a man he crowd down and took aim in his scope. He magnified and saw it was Miller. He told to himself. " Very foolish to stand in my eyes again comrade , this time I will punish you for your mistake. " Petko aimed and magnified the target was at 4 kilometers but for Petko that was an easy shot . He took a deep breath aimed and fired the Dragunov. Petko smiled as he saw he hit his target and hided in the bushes so that Miller wont see him. By that time his small wrist scanner managed to pinpoint the field radiation density and how large it was. The wrist scanner calculated a safe path that there was no radiation for Petko to pass. He pickd up his Dragonov and moved on leaving Miller to figure what happened to him just now. Shadows of JiangXi - Kriss92 - 01-05-2011 "I wonder how much ammo i have left after the trip" Alex stopped in a half-collapsed parking lot to count the AK-74 he had left "okay, one mag full, and 1, 2,3... 20 bullets in the other one, that's all i have left?' he said to himself in a worrying voice
He went deeper into the parking lot, hoping to find something useful, but all he found was two more screeching zombies, so Alex ran out. There was a museum two blocks away from the parking lot, Alexander found it and went in. Some old maps of the Sol System and other un-usable stuff was in the first room, so Alex went further. He continued walking around until he noticed something he had read about. It was an 850 year old army car. The radiation meter started bleeping as Alex got closer to the car. "That's the ГАЗ 46! Oh my, this thing is in a beautiful condition, just radiated a bit, i might even be able to use it... just have to find something for it to run on.. I guess i wont find the Unleaded 95 octane petrol they used in the old days, but I should be able to find something that can be used as an alternative fuel" Alexander thought while walking around the car.
"There must be something else that burns as good as petrol... Alcohol! Right! I saw a bar right outside the museum, let's see if some alcohol is still there" Alex thought and ran out from the museum
He went into the bar, the floor was making strange sounds as Alex walked towards the kitchen. After 20 minutes of seeking, he found a box of a very old and strong Russian vodka. "This is a very good product nowdays, too bad i have to burn it.." he thought while dragging the box with his left arm.
The box had 20 l vodka in it, Alex put 18 of them in the fuel tank of the car, the rest two he put into the passenger compartment, sat down behind the wheel, and opened a bottle. "This should take some of the pain away, also, nuclear reactor disaster victims were given vodka to drink too, so i suppose this should protect me from radiation too, a bit" Alex said to himself and drank a bit, almost spitting it all out instantly, but he managed to get it down, then Alexander opened the engine compartment "Everything is in place, i just have to cut some holes in the air filter and regulate some carburetor screws, hoping that the valves don't burn out when I try to start it" Alexander thought and drank some more of that 70% vodka, and started to feel very dizzy after.
He sat down at the driver's seat again, drank some more, and suddenly felt very sleepy, and calm, the pain was nearly gone, and he was warm. "it's almost like i could... sleep, but first, i have to take the Battery out and put it under the seat, maybe it warms up a little from my body heat" After putting the battery under his seat, he pushed the ak-74 rifle closer to him, sat back in the seat, and thought "15 minutes, i need... just 15 minutes..." and, while pushing the rifle as close to his chest as possible, he fell asleep.
4 hours later he woke up, feeling much better, so he took the accumulator battery, opened it and saw that there was less than 50% electrolite left in it, so he put some vodka in it, closed the battery, put it in place, and went back to the driver's seat. "Please, oh, please, start..." Alex thought and turned the ignition key. The starter was turning the engine, but it wasn't going to start. "Spark plugs! I should clean them!" Alexander thought, found the spark plug instrument, got them out, cleaned, and put them back in. "Okay, now you have to start... The spark plugs are clean, you have electricity there, please, don't fail me" he thought, and tried to start it again. Nothing, again, so he opened the engine compartment, put some vodka into the carburetor, checked the rubber seals everywhere, everything was fine, so Alex went back and tried to start it the 3rd time. "You were made for war, the vodka cannot damage your rubber seals because they were made 3 times larger than they should be, I don't know what else could've gone wrong, so please, start now."
He turned the ignition key, at first, nothing happen, but then, one by one, the spark plugs started to fire, and the engine came back to life! A horrible cloud of blue smoke came out of the exhaust, almost suffocating Alex, but he was fine, and he had found a car, which doubled Alexander Vorobiev's chances of survival! "Have to warm up the engine a bit, it hasn't worked for a long time, good thing i checked the oils, and everything. I just have to figure out a way to shift gears with my left hand, damn the old manual gearboxes." Alex thought while sitting in the car, smiling...
Shadows of JiangXi - arvg - 01-05-2011 Broken tiles crunched lightly beneath his boots as he crept through the derelict hospital, he wasn't far from the shopping district, and he hoped to find some additional medical supplies secured somewhere on the premises. The wonder of Hospitals, especially Coalition ones, was that they anticipated nuclear strike, and any medical supplied would be secured in lead-lined boxes, protected from any kind of radio isotopes. ![]() The only real problem with his plan was the fact that he wasn't the only one to realize this fact. From the looks of the ruins, someone else had already been through the hospital, turning much of it upside down in the process of looting it for anything that was even remotely valuable. Bandits. Humanity had this unerring ability to survive, and prey upon disaster, and there were those in the Zone who had excelled after the destruction of the world. Plying the Coalition black market with looted treasures taken from the shattered homes of the dead. They roamed around places, especially larger settlements like New HangZhou, in large packs, usually on dirt bikes, shooting anything that moved or got in their way, as they strove to get rich off of the suffering of those that had died. Not really caring that at one time or another, they had been Coalition citizens. Such trivialities were long forgotten, as they had been, on New HangZhou. ![]() Moving down the dingy hall, lit from the noon day sun outside, he kept his gas mask on. Even breathing the dust inside of a building was toxic. And he didn't like being inside for long, it was dangerous, and deadly in the confined, dark space. He swept each room, as he advanced, his assualt rifle poking into dark corners that would probably never see the light again after he had gone past. If there were signs of bandits, they were old. That was a partial relief... Though elsewhere in the city he could hear the occasional ratta-tatting of gunfire, and noises of their bikes. From the sounds of it, they had found a few of the Nuggets, and sensing the chance for fresh meat... well unfouled meat was a delicacy on JiangXi those days. Not to mention the wealth of the gear the nuggets were carrying. ![]() The room at the end of the hall had been a small theatre of sorts. A decrepit looking piano sitting next to a small stage where, only a year ago, rousingly patriotic songs and dances had been performed for the patients of the hospital. A place that had once held such cheer. He remembered his childhood on Leeds, learning to play the piano under the tutelage of a strange old governess with her strict rules and ruler to enforce them. A lifetime ago now, even thought he was only twenty-four. But then, Bretonia seemed more like a dream in those days... His gloved fingers brushed the flaking enamel paint on the old instrument, and he wondered if everything and everyone would end up that way? From last reports, Leeds would be in as bad a state as JiangXi was soon enough. At least JiangXi had a fighting chance of getting better. ![]() Continuing down the stairs, he descended into the bowels of the hospital, aware from the faint rustling that he wasn't alone. And years of dealing with the Zone, telling him that very soon he'd be fighting for his life. Shadows of JiangXi - Vince Piccio - 01-05-2011 There's a hospital. Probably everything that isn't bolted down is long gone. Iscariot had ran across some ghoulish apparitions that hungered for anything, even human flesh. They had found nothing but tachyon blasts from the Lamia rifle he had, the size of a regular rifle but using the same technology that created the Lamia tachyon cannons seen on Phantom fighters. A mystery, as most things were with Phantoms. The sound of gunfire was occasional and usually distant, it was an inhospitable place. It's amazing that anyone at all was still alive; if the nukes hadn't gotten them, it was either radiation, killer fauna, or other humans. There was a distant rumbling, but on second thought it wasn't so distant. Maybe one block over. Iscariot heard some whooping and jeering. A couple of ATVs bounded around the corner, grimy looking men covered from head to toe in rags appearing. They pointed at Iscariot and immediately they opened fire as they sped towards him. Bad mistake. The bullets that didn't miss bounced off the armor. The Phantom pulled up his rifle and aimed down the sights, and the first ATV exploded. As he took aim at the other one, they realized the mess they were in and dived away from the bike as it went up in a fireball too. The first two people were fried to a crisp, and the second two were bloody and messy. Iscariot walked to the closest one, grabbed him, and slammed him against the wall of the hospital. Once, twice, three times. Then he dropped him and kicked. The last one was trying to crawl away, but Iscariot wouldn't have it. He walked over, a menacing wraith of destruction, and stepped on his back as he lay prone. A blade flashed from his wrist, and he stabbed the last one in the neck forcefully. "This planet is one huge hellhole." Shadows of JiangXi - Tomtomrawr - 01-05-2011 ![]() He'd been walking west, along where he believed the high-level radiation zone was. And then his gun had exploded. A loud PANG as a small metal bullet impacted the larger metal weapon and the weapon was falling onto the floor. Miller's hands seared with pain and throbbed as he'd instinctively attempted to hold onto the weapon. Well, he'd succeeded. Partly. He'd kept the trigger. He dove for cover, knowing he was under attack from somewhere. But when he hit the ground, what felt like a knife drove itself into his stomach. He gasped, forgetting his attacker for a second as he moved his hand down to the wound. He shifted from his prone position to lying down, and pulled out a shard of glass. He brought it to his face, examining it as the light of dawn reflected on it. He gasped again, realising how long the glass shard had been in him without being noticed. It was from the farmhouse, he knew. Jumping through the window, landing on glass shards. Why had he done that? He'd been desperate. His attention shifted now, as if he were phasing in and out of reality to deal with one problem at a time. It shifted back to the situation at hand, being attacked by an unknown assailant. He'd have to move for cover, and that cover was to the south. In what he still believed was the radiation zone. He'd have to risk it. He knew he would. It was his only hope of survival now, to escape the sniper fire in the dense forest. He struggled to his feet, sharp pain stabbing through his stomach, his throbbing fingers now ignored as if they were a distant memory. He ran as fast as he could into the dense forest, his only protection being what was more like a poncho and a gas mask. Shadows of JiangXi - ChillerMiller - 01-05-2011 ![]() After a long march, Jovanovic entered the outskirts of New Huangzhou, a ruin. Destroyed buildings everywhere, only a few of them seemed to be ok. He had the feeling he entered a the area of an ghost town. He moved along and came to a hospital. It seemed to be only half destroyed but the most important things were infront of it. It was a mess, dead corpses everywhere arround some ATVs. Some of them were completely destroyed, however some of them were in a good shape. 'Hmm, now that is something I could really need. Those poor souls, I wonder who or what killed them.' He looked arround, maybe there were some useful things for him. He found a better model of the AK-74 than his current one and also a lot of ammunition, about 7 magazines. He changed the AKs and continued his search. He checked one of the backpacks lying arround. He smiled when he found out that it was filled with food. 'Food, it seemed they were prepared for a long journey, a shame they don't need it anymore. I will gladly take it.' He took one of the backpacks and started one of the ATVs. ![]() 'Better than walk the whole time.' He drove away further inside of New Huangzhou Shadows of JiangXi - Tomtomrawr - 01-05-2011 ![]() His radiation meter didn't start to beep, much to Miller's relief. He must have reached the edge of the radiation field, and was therefore running down its western perimeter. He gave the last little piece of luck little thought, except concentrating on the task at hand. What to do once he reached New HangZhou. During the half an hour walk remaining to reach the city, he'd decided on several things. First, he'd keep moving. There was no sense in wasting daylight hours in sleeping. He'd have to wait until darkness before he would allow his efforts to return to finding a suitable place to sleep. Second, he would find a vehicle. If he was going to reach the southern coast of the continent alive, he'd need transportation. He doubted any indigenous animals would be willing to lend a hand, so a functioning vehicle would have to be found. Third, he would skin any animals that he found. Along with his wound, the glass had also cut a hole in his radiation suit. The living creatures must have evolved to prevent lethal levels of radiation from reaching their organs, so any fur could be converted into a patch to cover the hole. Fourth, he'd spend as little time in the city as possible. He'd determined it was bound to be a hub of activity for hunting creatures, and any human survivors of the nuclear attack, be they mutated or not. One day, at the most. To find a vehicle, find an animal to skin, get some sleep and general rest, and achieve his final objective. His final objective. To arm himself with enough fire-power to take down a battalion. He'd proven at the Christmas party he could drink enough to send a battalion under the table. Now he needed to prove he could send one under the ground. Shadows of JiangXi - Aphil - 01-05-2011 ![]() He heard it before he saw it. A single shot, not far in the distance. He stopped his dirt bike, dismounting it, taking his weapons with him. Slowly, silently, he tracked. He found some bushes disturbed, a single bullet casing, 54 MM to be exact, he also found a single set of footprints leading away from it, towards the City of New HangZhou. He looked through his scope, using it as a Binocular of sorts. He scanned the terrain, he saw nothing of note, everything was quiet. Taking the Bullet Casing with him, he returned to his Dirt Bike. The 54 MM casing looked like it'd be fired from a Sniper Rifle. The ruled out most of his guns, as the Sniper would just pick him off from range. The man smirked, he loved killing his enemies up close and personal. He revved his bikes engines, and set off for New HangZhou. The Bandit had just acquired his latest target. Shadows of JiangXi - Pacific - 01-05-2011 ![]() Petko walked towards the city of New Hang Zhou. As he entered the outskirts of the city he saw footsteps so he decided to track them down. The sights in the city were terrible, broken old buildings and cars that had human remains in them. It looked like the people were horrified when they died. Petko felt sad and mumbled to himself. "Poor bastards." He continued to walk after the trail when it ended and ATV tracks took their place Petko smiled and continued after the trail, the ATV and Jovanovic were 50 minutes in front of him. He moved to check out what was going on with Jovanovic and heard noises as the ground started to shake. Petko took cover immediately and waited to see what was coming. When he did he was shocked to find a very large creature with the size of a 4 level building that still managed to be fast. When it passed Petko started running after it. As the creature stopped Petko hid behind a wall and observed it while loading a round of the 54 mm caliber bullets into his dragunov. Petko was ready to take down the creature when suddenly Jovanovic came from nowhere and the creature flipped his ATV. He grumbled to himself, "stupid nugget!' Jovanovic was trapped by his ATV and the creature was moving in with its jaws to eat him. He could not shoot with his shotgun because he couldn't reach it. It was time for Petko to start doing what he was here to do and keep the recruits alive as long as possible. While Jovanovic screamed for help, Petko took a breath and aimed with the scope before taking the shot. The creature's head apparently wasn't fond of being shot at, but it was too late for complaints. Petko hit a vital part of its body causing it to blow up. Jovanovic was covered with tons of blood and parts of the creature's brain. Petko laughed quietly at Jovanovic's misfortune before taking a step back and moving away. Jovanovic got up to turn his ATV back and moved on his way without noticing Petko, but he knew someone saved his life in that moment. After this cute little situation it was time to check out how Ling was doing. Petko tried to pick up his tracks, but with no luck. He sighed and turned towards a building in an old neighborhood taking a picture with his camera. ![]() Petko saw that this place had made people happy in the past. It was dark and cold, but Petko noticed some kind of tracks. The tracks were made from some kind of vehicle and it wasn't Vicenta's jeep. He thought since there was life here maybe there are people who decided to become bandits and make their own Militsia. Petko wanted to track those grave robbers down. He saw a big building with a blue truck in front of it he took a picture as well. ![]() Petko went up to the last floor of the building overlooking the blue truck. He booby-trapped all the entrances to his position and sat down waiting for any sign of the grave robbers. |
