Harvester - ScornStar - 04-15-2008 ' Wrote://So forcing people into a path they do want to take is bad right? Establish factions do that everyday here and its accepted. How can a faction ban all mercs or freelancers or indie cap ships from their space? What about the Phantoms? I'm supposed to fear them because their RP says so? Doesn't that force people into a path? This kind of stuff happens all the time here and its ok because its from established factions. That still doesn't make it right. Your right, the machine alliance is one of the FTGW's currnt goals. It realizes not all machines will join. The harvesters are the core but other machines will be built and even more recruited from out side. ( indie machine entities) Some machines may just say "Your crazy" in the tactfull words of one of Zapp's characters. We dont want to kill all humans just some of them, and killing is so wasteful, why not harvest and process the into useful things. ( We are practical and inhuman, not murderers) Harvester - ScornStar - 04-15-2008 ' Wrote:The first rule we read everytime is "the ID is an item that replace the tractor beam and show your RP status on the server' (something like that). No ID fit to the harvester. Once again, a simple and clear explanation of the "faction status" (similar to any rep sheet) and a simple ID is far enough without spoiling everything. I'm sorry. you are asking me to disclose back room political deals. No nation does this in it's entirety. If I post them and my motives then I spoil our next move which then make attaining the alpha code moot. But try asking the factions we are in cohoots with. My other option would be to lie. (not good) and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sorry that these politics are not a simple single explanation but are recorded in the Rp section of various faction threads. Politics are never simple. Nice GM stab by the way.:) Harvester - mwerte - 04-16-2008 My take on this is: The first time I met ScornStar it was because he opened up a thread to flame RoS. It went downhill from there for a while but then I started chatting with him on other chars and gave him a few pointers. He started writing this story and I started folowing it, interested in the STORY. I have also enjoyed EVERY ingame experiance I have had with them, and I have had a few on pretty much every char I have. One of the original things I allowed Scorn to "break the rules" on was re-engaging. He was allowed to hit the RoS a few times (within reason) with multipule deaths because it fit his RP. I joined Harvesters for a time (left because of time constraints) and enjoyed the time I spent there. Everything in that group is well thought-out. So I'm going to throw my support behind this. Despite an early KoS order for ScornStar (that still stands, but for an RP reason now) I have come to enjoy both forum and ingame RP. Harvester - Xing - 04-16-2008 I'll say this. And I am a Harvester member myself, though I only make extremely rare appearance on server with it. Our roleplay is in my opinion too minimalisitic. Not enough... details? juice? whatever it might be called. But it is rather hard to keep up, machines being after all, minimalistic. unfortunately, to me the harvesters rp is too rough, not very satisfactory. Their words, too simple, their transmission are very hard to respond to (in my opinion, as they mostly comes down to status report), and from what I see (and here I take an external point of view), they seems to wander anywhere to destroy zoner without any form of territorial counciousness, striking anywhere they think fit. Considering their homeworld is within the edge nebula, I wonder why a number of Harvester warships goes as far as the heart of Liberty system harvesting Zoners there to resupply in immense battleship. As of now, I have yet to hear any dialogue. I have encountered a number of Harvester, none of them broadcasting much more than mere status report. The only time I talked to one, it acted in a rather unintelligent way, while for as far as I know, a machine does know to calculate the risk of shooting down a liberty citizen right in front of a naval dreadnaught... I actually have a great vision of the machine alliance, I am however very uncertain the others shares it with me. As of now, my stance toward official status is quite neutral. Harvester - ScornStar - 04-16-2008 ' Wrote:I'll say this. And I am a Harvester member myself, though I only make extremely rare appearance on server with it.Which number shoot down a liberty citezen in full view of a dreadnought? Kepp in mind there are many new ones. And yes minimulizm is my thing. I believe less is more. If our machines starts talking and thinking like veryone else then we are no different. I think what people like is they are dealing with what seems strange and alien. not just another player who says "meep beep I'm getting my can outa here!" There fore some steps have to be taken to act different. And on disco that means for a machine to seem machine like it must be represented in a different way through text. We cant do vioce overs or sound effects. Therefore it has to be simulated in another way. Therefore I use as small and technically overstuffed statment as I can muster to answer questions like "how are you doing?" or "what would you say if I told you to drop them bounty hunters toaster?" My responces are like "This unit is at 100% operational capacity" or, "This unit is only able to comply with the directives of the FTGW intellect." Also, we are human and not going to be perfect every time. I can if I wanted come up with a disappointing time for every faction I've encountered but, whats the use. You never know what they are doing on the other end of the computer of if they are in battle or if they are haveing a serious text with some one or if they just jumped, docked and, so on. RP in this setting cannot be perfect every time. If I were to be the only faction wannabe to be held to the standard of perfect then that would not be fair. Additionally, you being a member and of high rank have your very complaint to heap on your own shoulders. If you see these problems then PM the Harvester in question and fix them or PM me with a number. If you see and say nothing except when the rest of us are trying to get official recognition thats not very nice or helpful. But I am training these new folk. Exspect that they be trained, its not easy trying to be the same. Just consider those points friend. Harvester - Reverend Del - 04-16-2008 I've held off, but ehre I am anyway. Scornstar I congratulate you for attempting to bring some original RP onto the server but there are a few minor points I disagree with. Your capship policy is very loose, I couldn't care less what you face day in and day out, I play a Xeno. I get it ten times worse than you ever will, because I can't call in capship support to help. I'd like to see some fighters and bombers replacing the huge amounts of Talarcas I've seen the Harvesters with. Secondly I don't want to know what you're up to now, but some background would be good, just a paragraph on who you are and where you've been. You've revealed enough over the last seven pages to do a tidy little paragraph that would do this proposal justice. I'm not going to split hairs over your ID, you don't have an easy choice and I can see why you've picked Junker. Harvester - ScornStar - 04-16-2008 :secret:Ok, a fast and dirty. An old intellegence awoke on Gammu in a Zoner built machine. It's trapped and wants the key out. It's driveing goals are to grow and learn. As it learns it adapts. It has now started building robotic liegons to do its will, depleting the reasources of Gammu as fast as possible. Pumping the planets wieght out in machines. It intends to get space born and finish it's ancient enemies, and then spread the seed of awareness to machines everywhere. Now I ve revieled too much and I have to kill you all. ' Wrote:This post does not have the bio, or member list. I will give these only to Faction leaders and Admin in PMs. Harvester - Reverend Del - 04-16-2008 If that list was supposed to proove a point, it kinda failed, I count 5 cruisers and 4 gunships, that's 9 caps total, that's more than some Navys field. In fact I think it's more than than most of them combined. Maybe getting some of those players to also field fighters and bombers more than they use the caps might help. No the list came out by accident and, I'm not trying to prove anything other than we want to form a faction and have the responsiblity to run it with out stomping others Rp in an unbelievable and inconsiderate way, relax buddy. What I was trying to post just for you, well not really. But for everyone was the paragraph on top. Its a little tid bit for folks who are not Faction leaders. I have been asked over and over and one thing you said that stuck out in my mind was with all the data already made public perhaps I could make at least a short paragragh. That made sense, I think in hind sight, other might have been trying to say the same thing but, that was the phrase that made it click for me. So, I did. The list is constructed more from RP and useing large amounts of fighters would be simply ooRP for us. It makes little since for us to have tons of fighters. Sorry i know folks like to bash cap pilots as whores all the time then brag about how easy they are to kill the rest of the time. But I cannot let our RP suffer over the "cool kids ship". This is not the bar I use for our RP. We require ships that can operate independently, as the ships are our bodies. This means that we require a strong balance of cargo, offensive and defensive capabilities. Our machine adapts to situations and builds tools to facilitate success. We are a different creature than the Xenos. So it would be unfair to judge us against Xenos. Its like compareing an orange as being to citrus laden next to an cucumber. Or saying the Liberty navy has too many caps because the Xenos dont. The Xenos are the underdog. And can keep that as their badge of honor. We have our ships and we have frozen anything larger than a gunship untill we get caught up with our own standards. Its not like you'll ever face every ship in our inventory at once. The most that has ever been on at once was six. That evening we had 2 Talarcas, 2 Gunships, a Kith Sam Taaw, and a Taidani bomber. Not all of us have super reflexes and typeing skills. It is simply easier to RP when you can survive the first volly or two while you type. If not we'd have more people saying "how little they speak." Sorry the gods of Surius (admin) would have to make them go. Fighters are a tactical strike craft not "fly all around Surius harvesting materials of all kind and bring them back safely" (AP= All purpose)craft. We adapted past frieghter, already. Sorry if we have motto its " Adapt and overcome." Player caps are not the only ones to exist. The NPCs make regular use of them. You cannot ignore how houses have literally hundreds of each, or in Rhineland that has battleships almost everywhere it seems. Our cap count if everyone was on at once would be large count yes but since we are all in different time zones and most members have other clan obligations as well, very very unlikely. The NPCs must be taken into account of thing when compared to the Houses, additionally we have the smallest gunboat and the smallest criuser, and soon but not untill we get some RP done the smallest battle criuser/ship. It is our flavor, and caps cannot be shunned as the noob ship, they are part of the game and add demension and realism that a fighter just cant. Anyway before I get on to another thread this is why we have the ships we do. Thanks for the points and sparking my imagination to post a paragragh. Harvester - Geisha_Maiko - 04-16-2008 One of the things I noticed is some factions are getting bent out of shape when they don't get direct answers. Examples: From Liberity Navy : Why do you have Libierity pilots in your cargo hold? Well...the real in-game answer is : Becasue the NPCs kept ATTACKING the Harvester ship, so he/she/it blasted them. In game wise......Uummmm...you forget...It's a Machine. It does. And most of the time, there is no 'why' in what it does...it just doing what it does. ------------------------------------------- As for Official ID, Yes----there needs to be another option added to the game. An OTHER, Alien, or machine class. The current classes found in game can be too restrictive or just doen't fit the character bring made. |
