Kill all imperialists, defend the Federal Republic

RE: Poll: Imperial Rheinland - JonasHudson - 07-14-2019

wasn't there an alt RM faction attempting to build a party out of itself for this? Again, I don't see a need to script. If people want to coup or civil war, it should be able to happen in game first. Devs only need to allow rule changes, and make some bases attackable in real time.

IMAGINE IF

Battleships and cruisers had HP like a wrote about in my Sirius Wars thread.

Then they the imperialists could try launching attacks on their own ships. Perhaps 'incognito' as SRP or unknow IFF RM ID'd ships. They could actually make some surprise attacks, try to take over by winning a battle.

This is why having friends in the dev team is great for some, but we always throw away opportunities to create in game activities by 'just writing stuff to happen'. I'd rather see some players SRP special characters for this and plan something. Or just change the rule to let RM shoot each other first. And some are saying 'what can we even do??'. But that is the problem! We need to fix the problem of not having more in game options that can be done there in game, that allow for less micro management of events and societal developments.
Reading about a coup that is just a little story to allow for big changes is shallow and only waters down the experience here.

Why not designate a 'leader base' that represents a government HQ, and have it take some in game work. Maybe what might help Kusari is Rheinland internal strife. Seems only fair there should be a civil conflict, even if a 'coup', a coup should require a siege, like a surprise attack. If it fails, it leads to civil war. But, thats only if the current RM and Rehinland factions even care. If they do, they should get their chance too. That all makes sense to me. I'd like to see the devs go that direction and only facilitate where needed. Change the bases, change the ID's, watch and enjoy.

So, since the 'yes' did get a winning vote, perhaps like in the outcast civil war, open it up that RM can shoot each other and their own bases. Then those willing to fly can do the work. Otherwise, I just don't see the point, it seems like a waste of effort. All for what? to keep Rheinland out of the war? or get them in? why make one scripted change but not just go right for the jugular and just make Rheinland declare war on Gallia, and Kusari declare war on Liberty, and have ourselves some all out Siriun Wars.

That last part aside, if its just to get Rheinland in the war, just do it. Continuity is a joke here when events are only filled with fiction, so don't worry about making it seem 'realistic'. I just hope it will be played out, not something else to read about that never happened.

EDIT: How does this story sound?

Quote:Imperialist RM officers stage coup against Government HQ!

New Berlin System

A group of unknown RM vessels appeared suddenly in restricted airspace in the vicinity of the RM Headquarters in orbit of New Berlin. The group sent in a bomber that hit the base with an NEMP warhead, softening the base up for an assault. At least one defecting vessel was a Rheinland battleship, flanked by several cruisers. They then moved in to finish it off with a direct attack. Once the base was reduced, it was taken over by the Imperialists who siezed control of the military before Republic loyal forces could muster a defense
.

That could all be real.

With the general swing to the far right in europe right now, the timing of something like this couldn’t be worse. It’s a bit close to home for alot of people and i don’t believe everyone will play rheinland characters with the necessary restraint.

I’m all for aggressive expansion, but an empire? It’s a bit too spicy for me.

If this is to happen Rheinland needs to pay a heavy price in land, wealth, and blood. This should be made clear by the devs to the faction leaders proposing such a move. That imperial ambition can rise only from the smoldering ruins of this Rheinland.

A civil war not unlike the Russian one with many factions and ideologies, with foreign powers interfering everywhere they can. And what of the people? Starvation, flight, terror attacks, the economy in shambles, conditions not unlike and beyond those described in vanilla rumors and infocards.

The transition should be gradual with plenty of time to develop characters and RP. Interesting in-game events should take place all over Rheinland, the story capture the struggle, the change in the collective mindset of Rheinland, the descent into a maelstrom of violence both physical and psychological.

Story devs should provide a rich backstory woven out of bits of in-game rumors, base infocards, wrecks and all that goes with it.

Indeed, care should be taken to steer Rheinland away from the obvious peril, the pull of RL history; Reheinland's Second Empire must not turn into the Third Reich. Danger has many faces when pursuing this story; forced change, cheese, Space Nazis, illlogical developments, boredom, loss of RP opportunities for various factions and likely many more.

Honestyl, I have little faith in this. But the potential for a fun, awesome story is there.

The good thing about anonymous votes is that people with many alts and faction accounts can nicely affect them.

Well, remember the last time Disco had a civil war story...
