As for our guns they should be 0% better than everyone else's, but it would be nice to have a kit we like to use. I seriously would rather use all Krakens than our current weapons. Our shield busters are class 8, sub all the class 9s. Energy efficient, but it takes five shots to drop a fighter shield with four of them... -.-; Our ships aren't any superior that I've noticed. Last few fights I was we won mostly by pure chance (I managed to insta-kill a fighter, for example). One fight we had before a crash was stopped a 23 NB for the enemy and 30 NB for one of each team. The others were unscratched. I'd like a kit that we're happy with more than a kit that's better than anyone else... I'd rather use my Sabre which has 2 Dark Blossom codes (relating to her name), three Krakens, and 1 missile. I like the ship better, I like the guns better. I can't speak for all Phantoms on this matter, but my personal preference is high energy usage, high damage shield busters (which means class 9s and possibly two more class 9 slots on the RC, though I won't push it). The other guns follow my favorite type of weapon, 2.00s mixed with 4.00s. As it is, I'm thinking of getting all hull-busters because our shield busters are rather... Err... Useless feeling to me. As for arguing that the Phantoms are the "best fighters" in the game... Hardly. We only win because we work together as a team. Our "ace" pilots are either all rusty or gone. DBoy (who was mentioned) is longer with Discovery in general. Our best pilots shouldn't be named because then they'll be targetted more in combat, but... Well, I'm actually among the top 3. That argument is void. We have just as many weak pilots and just as many Ace pilots as any other faction. There was more I wanted to say, but I think I've lost it. In any case, it seems that I'll have to fly my Phantoms more often so more of you guys can see us as not-so-hostiles. I remember convincing a Navy Bomber to duel my Sabre to death to allow me free passage out of the New York system... I nearly won, but a lucky mine got me. However, it was after more than 20 minutes or more of role play in system chat with propaganda and minor taunts. I've spent hours in Alpha chatting with the locals, same in Gamma, though less (since it's farther from the Revenant). I once spent upwards of an hour spewing propaganda to forces roving the California system looking for me on the Hellbound... We're not always looking for the kill. That said, it's hard to have good PR when a thread gets seven pages in less than a day and our Master of Communication (Glock/Hoodlum) isn't around to butt-heads with folks. I see I've taken his job today. TL;DR Summary: 0% advantage, but a more powerful shield buster (level 9, higher damage/energy; personal opinion). We aren't all PvP-whore-gods. No issues with the Phantom receiving their own weapon and ship line but they should not be out of balance with the rest of the mod. Still ending up with a pair of Dragoon 3's on the old Slippy, as there is nothing else to cover those slots. Nothing has been fired in anger, apart from bopping a few NPCs ... The Phantom weapons were designed and handed to the balance team, who laughed loudly at the stats ... Then they came up with the ones in game at the moment. None of us ever had cause to argue any point. So I personally never questioned anything. Apart from that, my RM-2 looks like it has been turned into a tour bus, it has so much glass. I can get the old RC to stall with monotonous regularity, turning itself into a flat pancake of a target. That's how much I have managed to do with any of my ships and weapons so far ... I could go on, but excuse me, I, along with a few others are trying to coax a slightly pig-headed server, and mod into staying on line for the rest of you, who seems to forget this is actually a beta test phase ... So I shall post once, and take my leave. Hoodlum Superior Phantom ships/weapons - McNeo - 03-16-2009 I wonder if we'd see the same kind of poll results if the title were "nomads" or "coalition" rather than "phantoms". Or any other faction with better weapons, for that matter. I do hope those with the conviction to snowball yet another thread picking on the Phantoms have equally strong convictions to pounce on any other faction with access to superior weaponry. While, personally I dislike the idea of superior weaponry being given to any faction, it makes very little sense to deny it to one faction and grant it to another. The bigger picture here is "Should special factions get better equipment than normal ones? And if so, by how much?" If thats a yes, which I believe it is right now looking at some stats of not-phantom guns, then the upgrade here should stay. If thats a no, then all special factions should get their guns overhauled right now. Which is why I voted 20%. I dont believe that everyone will vote to balance their guns with the rest of the community, citing various reasons (some good, some bad) for their need for better stuff. So, the current trend inasmuch as better equipment for special factions should be stuck to, until the time comes where the guns for special factions are brought into line wholesale with the rest of them, rather than just picking out the Phantom guns because they are an easy target. Unfortunately, the current poll is adressing only Phantom weapons, targetting them over others. Time for a new topic? Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Laowai - 03-16-2009 Actually i'm signing with Jihad Joe here. Yes i am an admin. No i don't have a phantom. But, if the role play, written hard into the background of a faction says they have scarier weapons, then give them scarier weapons. So they are harder for people to beat in pvp, big deal, they're supposed to be harder to beat in pvp. Role play it - this is a Role play server. I lose pretty much every pvp encounter i get into - because i suck at pvp - and after admitting this fact, and reminding myself WHY i came to disco in the first place (role play) PVP = you win, i lose, big deal? Is my ego SO fragile that when my collection of 1's and zero's is beaten by someone elses collection of 1's and Zeros on a computer game i have to throw a tantrum about it? A little perspective here can help.... I did throw these tantrums in the past, i used to be a whinger - ask treewyrm about about some of the flame threads i started on the nomads (and yes, i think they should have better weapons as well). Point is, its this kind of mentality that leads to: A: delays in mods being released. B: Flaming on the forums. C: Vindictive sanction reports. D: Angry people and insults. Remind yourselves what we value on this server, It isnt how good you are at shooting the other player. I know some folks wont agree with me here, but to me, if a special faction has some perks, its a non issue. If another faction does not have said perks, you Role play that as a fact not cry "unfair" and jump up and down. This by the way is my opinion as a player here - not an admin, i should probably say that. The Corsairs are apparently the best shipbuilders in Sirius, after all.
