Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Hawkwings - 05-24-2009 Thank you for contributing something productive to this discussion. I myself will take that advice and step away for a day. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - ProwlerPC - 05-24-2009 I think Peter has some good reasoning here. This is indeed a relatively new event and with tangible results at stake there is a heavy competitive edge showing on our side. Myself I am trying to get used to it. We are also not used to being the ones that outnumber our opponents either. The Diamond Niobium run had made sure that we had endless hordes of enemies. I would also like to add that I am only now becoming aware of the boasting in-game. I would like to say to all participants that these are high stress battles and while a bit of RP from the victors is nice please show some tact as there are people playing the characters, they aren't just pixels on the screen. I am also open to re-discussing the the agreed upon rules if both sides feel it should be done. But I would also like to take the time to say that I still believe this can work. So far our events are the only ones of their kind and I don't know if the significance behind them was at first truly grasped by the opposing side. I do think we woke the Dragon up now though. Even then, if they don't have the numbers and there really isn't an RP tactic around it, perhaps a serious look into what kind of line should be drawn into the sand be made about how outnumbered we should be before we send some pilots away. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Friday - 05-24-2009 When the next event comes up, I shall put up some options for playing the RP balance. All sides please get into the discussion. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Ortog - 05-24-2009 Well,I am going to follow the advise of Peter, didn't knew we had such a silver tounge among the Ronin, but I am very pleased to find out. *Goes for tea, tai chi and meditation. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - pipboy - 05-24-2009 ' Wrote:I would be happy to generate mission objectives - if the enemy is prepared to even READ them. last event was for the enemy to attack the Sigma-19 Gate Construction Site, they didnt even go there! Actually we were headed straight there when we were intercepted by a Blood Dragon fleet before we could get anywhere near the GMG ships or the Gate. So don't insult our intelligence. We READ just fine. ' Wrote:Well gee, perhaps if more than one Hogosha could be bothered to show up we wouldnt have this problem now would we? I'm sorry there was only one representing our side on this one. Real life happens and it's been happening to our faction a lot recently. But I'll tell you what. If you'd like for the next event I can put in a call to the indie Corsairs and have a fleet 30 strong in Okinawa to lolpawn your forces all over Sirius. If you're curious as to why we haven't done that yet feel free to ask, I would think the answer is pretty obvious though. ' Wrote:I need to grow up? No I dont think so. There is so much nonsense in that I don't know where to start... 1: Hogosha showing RP finesse? You really believe that we don't? I'd like to counter that comment but I am restraining myself as it's going to get ugly and I don't want to do that. Nice guy and all. Keep it up with comments like that though and I'll tear you to shreds. :) (Smiley face intended to take some sting off the last sentence I typed.) 2: Corsair argument - No, no attempt was made to involve the Corsair fleet. Could we have done that? Sure! And I'm not sure you have any idea of the numbers we could have pulled in using them if we wanted. However, should we do that? No. If you can't figure out the RP reasons for not calling in the massive Corsair fleet then it's you that needs more, how did you word it? "RP finesse"? 3: As I wasn't there for this one, I can't say anything regarding the freelancers that were there. I had to work at the last moment even though I set aside the time on my schedule for this event two weeks ago. RL sucks sometimes. 4: We could have attacked the Zoner ship? Right, why would we do that exactly? It's a damn Zoner. He shouldn't have even been there to start with. Don't make me get Mal involved in this and find out why his TAZ are joining sides in a battle between two sides they are neutral/friendly with. ' Wrote:Yes, just as one could ask questions about the Hogosha leading Corsair fleets through Kusari space...lets not start playing that game now eh? Go ahead, it's no secret that the Hogosha work with the Corsairs. If you notice the KNF is the only house military that isn't hostile to the Corsairs. Why do you think that is? I'll let you and your great "RP finesse" figure that one out. Now I guaran-damn-tee the KNF does not know about the GMG involvement with the Blood Dragons to the extent that has been happening in Okinawa. If the Hogosha were to bring that to light it would be the end of the GMG. Yes, the end. There is no way the GMG would be able to convince the KNF that allying with the greatest enemy of the Kusari government is somehow a good thing. The KNF would turn on the GMG so fast their heads would spin. So lets not even start about who's friends are more acceptable, that's a game I'm perfectly willing to play if you'd like. So that concludes my breakdown of the above quotes. Now on to other things I've seen mentioned in here. For the comment that there is no way the Hogosha could tell on the GMG for their dirty friends because were dead.. It's called an escape pod. No one really dies in Discovery. And we could easily work out a way to get the evidence. You're talking about the Hogosha, the Kusari Yakuza, we own the black market in Kusari, we own the majority of the Kusari underworld, we have agents and spies in almost every "legal" faction in Kusari, we.... I'll stop there. Wouldn't want to showcase any "RP finesse". On another note, well said post Peter. It's nice to see people joining Disco of your caliber. Welcome and I look forward to more interaction with you and your characters. When I originally spoke with ProwlerPC about having this with no limits I was thinking of just the Black Dragon Society faction and the GMG faction. I didn't really think of the other factions that would be involved as I for some reason thought they wouldn't play that big of a role. The GMG and BDS are roughly equal in active members for the most part. At this very moment the BDS is a little short handed, real life has gotten hold of a few of us, but for the most part we're roughly equal in size. At least close enough that it all works out nicely. I like the idea of no limits, and I'd like to keep that feel to the whole thing. We have however tried to make it as pleasant as possible and not gotten crazy minimal RP killer types involved on our side. We can, and we have the allies and connections to do it. If everyone wants us to bring bigger numbers just say so and we can outnumber you 2 to 1 with Indiesairs. Seriously, just let me know - I can make the call. Now it's late and I'm not trying to pick fights here, but I saw people getting crazy in here and felt the need to step in and defend my factions members and their honor. Freelancer is a game, and we encourage fair play here as much as possible.Well 16 vs 4 not really fair, BUT it dont mean the lesser numbered team will lose. I remember some Gamma raid when example hessians come to gamma with lesser number group and they win. My faworite memory a singel outcast who raid gamma. He was totally alone (temporary he got back-up from 3 hessians but they died fast) and he killed about 20 corsair with fighter (I counted until 17) and he alived. So numbers not all. I know not only one player who alone can win a 4 vs 1 without problem. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Friday - 05-24-2009 ' Wrote:But I'll tell you what. If you'd like for the next event I can put in a call to the indie Corsairs and have a fleet 30 strong in Okinawa to lolpawn your forces all over Sirius. That is pretty much what we were expecting. Well you know what sir, I apologise. I shall take a step back from my more inflammatory comments. I will not push any more of a 'pee-up-the-wall' contest, and focus more on making the next event more balanced and entertaining for all parties involved. What I would like in return is for you sir, to get involved in this process. Yes RL does indeed get in the way - perhaps then we can all get involved in the planning, and put scenarios in place to deal with balance in the future... Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - pipboy - 05-24-2009 ' Wrote:That is pretty much what we were expecting. Apology accepted. And I'll do what I can to get more involved in this. To be totally honest, I've never been a big fan of the Okinawa system in general. So that kind of skewed my view of this whole event from the beginning. However, that's no reason that we can't make something fun out of all this mess so let's do just that. In regards to the Corsairs... It will get a bit out of control if we invite the Hispanic tidal wave to come crashing on our shores. If you guys in the GMG really want that, it can be arranged and we'll see how it works out. I don't mind having indies involved and as long as they are willing to cooperate with everything they are totally welcome. Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Friday - 05-24-2009 To be sure numbers arent an issue for us. The biggest issue would be stability of the fight with so many players in the one system. One way around it might be for us to stagger the fight. What would people say to different attack wings attempting 'hit and run' tactics as the enemy moves towards their objective? This way all defending forces can participate, but the overall odds in each fight favour the attackers. The defenders must attempt to wear down the enemy. I am thinking: 1) Ronin strike in the Sigmas. 2) Dragons strike in Honshu. 3) Main Guild squadron defends against remaining ships in Okinawa. Ideally, the attackers would try to stay together and not pursue fleeing ships. This may not happen, but we could arrange for a few Outcasts or mercenaries to loiter on the fringes and pick off any ships that break away from the main pack. Once a squadron flees, they are out of the fight - but are not considered 'losers', they have played there role in the event. The win or loss is determined by the overall outcome. What do you think? Okinawa Event #2: Isehara Terraforming Platform I Sat 9 15:00 GMT - Grizmar - 05-24-2009 I'm glad to see this cooling down, I like the idea of a staggered fight. I do suggest we allow both sides a day or two to 'cool off' before deciding upon the next event. This way we can plan the event together and organize a damn fine event. We will discuss it amongst ourselves before continuing. |
