This was an idea I brought up a while back, shortly after creating King George's Loyalists. Nine-tenths of our headache was in finding a place to dock, since we had unique diplomacy. Abandoned bases like that would be very useful to factions who don't fit into the Vanilla molds. Also, it would be useful for other sorts, like Vigilantes, who wouldn't otherwise have a place to dock.

I am now, as I was then, strongly in favor of this idea. Voted yes.

I woud just like to post saying that I really like this idea and I am prepared to work on it for 4.86 (won't happen before then). I already have a few ideas and scenarios in mind, so I will flesh them out a bit more etc.

I know only one base with abandoned status in disco: Ithaka, New York. But it looks are don't abandoned... just garbage.
Idea are good. Fully agree.

There are other 'bases' that are abandoned, but none of them are real bases, or at least selectable.

Remember in SP where you chased some OORP LR artifact smugglers into the silverton field? The transports were right next to an unselectable asteroid base model. (Old mining base I presume) and its still there, in addition most mined asteroid fields in house space are littered with assorted base fragments.

Ive seen alot of base wrecks around... perhaps we could fix them up.

I feel rather tricked by this question. It was so simple and austere, I thought it meant abandoned bases... as in undockable, just useless things in space that trick explorers into risking their lives to find it.

Now it's too late to take back my no vote. But it's not too late to funk.

Ithaca was destroyed I thought....?
Anyhow, I'm not sure it's a good idea.
The economics of simply dragging the thing through space like they do with oil rigs and super tankers would far outweigh the costs of leaving it there. On top of that, you should be careful of certain groups occupying these on an almost permanant basis and then, later down the line claiming them for their own, 'In the next mod...'
If theres one in Colorado, I'd be surprised the Xenos don't move in. Free base with enough space and facilities to fuel and equip fleets. You'd have to beat them off with a stick. The same is to be said for any other base, anywhere else. Junkers would have got hold of most of these years ago. It's what they do. The moment they find it, it's either scrapped or repaired.
I am sorry to sound cynical but I don't have such a high opinion of some players motives. I am afraid that whilst I DO see these as an ideal opportunity for RP purposes, the possibility to corrupt the idea behind them makes me vote 'no'
