If we get killed, will that count as "trading from A to B" under the rules and thus allow us to re-enter the system in question?

That depends on the ship you are in, at the time you get killed.. Server rules applies. The state that freighters/transportsners are allowed to reenter a system they were killed in, in order to trade or transit through it. Starfleas aren't covered by that rule.

Hey, I just had a thought.
I have a char named John.Bailey, and he's a reporter. Maybe I could have him outside Manhattion when it starts, get some statments, film a little bit, and just watch them go.
Then when the winner comes back, I film him coming in, get a statment, all that good reporter stuff.
Would this be ok?

I recons a news report would be nice, maybe put one reporter at each freeport so when the first person gets there you can interview them..

Ok, looks like ill have to find something differant than a Patriot. Oh well.
EDIT: I hope this is not another stupid question- How much will the X-mas commodities cost? I dont want to buy a ship, and then find that I cant afford any of the gifts :\
