The Tech Chart - triple88a - 02-13-2011 ' Wrote:That just kills RP. People do all sorts of inRP things to get white cell equipment.Well my point is in the game I encounter people flying all sorts of ships. A lot of with white cell equipment that i'm sure they never even seen this forum. Obviously rp is great however rp thread the person creates isnt in game, its on the forums and all the interactions happen in game. The point is when i see a player am i suppose to go search the forums for half an hr just to make sense of why hes using the equipment he's using? The Tech Chart - Decerebrated.Individual - 02-13-2011 My issues with white cells in the tech chart are these: -people who see others ingame with a white-cell set up may wrongfully think that they are violating a rule, or may wrongfully think that this is allowed for everyone ---> creates rule lawyering and rule violation reports ----> messes up RP atmosphere even more than the plethora of rules already does. -encourages clique lancer. -No way to make the permission-granting objective/fair A better way of handling it may be this, if the hardcoded game mechanics allow for it (not sure they do): Gun classes on all ships (actually its only necessary for combat shps since freighters dont have faction guns) will be changed, not to reflect the strength or level, but the manufaturer and compatibility with ship models. It would alos be necessary that gun slots allow onnly their own class to be mounted, not the classses below it. For example class 1 will be liberty built ships, they can mount liberty-built guns. Since I don't see why pirates would have their own gun-manufactiruing facilities, liberty pirates can also only mount liberty guns. For Outcasts, all their allies get to mount their stuff, although they may have to fly to Malta to get them. Class 10 could be missiles and codenames, and every or some ships could have a certain number, like 1 or 2, of these "universal" class slots. This way, a Freelancer ID could permit you to fly certain kinds of ships from all houses (civi, not military), but you would still be forced to have a certain RP consistency between your ship and guns. Drawback would be that it's an enourmous amount of work for devs to change all that. But it would this whole ID/gun/ship in-fighting a bad memory from the past. The Tech Chart - triple88a - 02-18-2011 And again this still goes with red/green only tech chart and eliminates all white cells^ The Tech Chart - Snoozzzer - 04-15-2011 So far 67.74% of those that participated in this poll believe something should be changed about the tech chart, versus 29.57% who believe the restrictions are good as is. Also, I'm bumping this. The Tech Chart - Jinx - 04-15-2011 in general: - the tech chart is a problem to many things: --- it causes factions with "influencial" players to gain advantages over players with less "influence" - especially when they are faction leaders and or in charge of shaping the tech of their faction --- it causes combinations of ships/equipment that was not foreseen - and turned out to be OP --- it causes bad feelings in general --- it causes balance problems in general suggested fix: - red cell everything ( hence making the tech chart obsolete ) - every faction is allowed to use its own ships and weapons ONLY, no SRP, no exceptions, period. The Tech Chart - Charo - 04-15-2011 ' Wrote:in general:Yes, let's make things get very boring very fast. And make every HF that uses a generic ID stick to wildfires and flashpoints, and make faction specific debs, and make civilian debs red cell to anything but Freelancers, and make house civilian red cell to the militaries, etc etc My point is, there needs to be some diversity. When driving down the street, you don't see every type of car the same color and with the same options, do you? The Tech Chart - mwerte - 04-15-2011 "It's good when it applies to them." The Tech Chart - Durandal - 04-15-2011 ' Wrote:in general: Discovery Puretech 24/7  The Tech Chart - NonSequitor - 04-15-2011 ' Wrote:in general: As usual, good insights and good points. However, this may put Freelancers and Mercs in a pinch. They'd be stuck using civilian vessels, generic guns and code weapons. The Tech Chart - mjolnir - 04-15-2011 There are and always will be 3 issues: a) people who mount wrong guns/ships cause they aren't aware that here it's against the rules b) people who mount wrong guns/ships cause they don't care about rules b) people who "RP" only to get better guns/ships ================================= Current tech chart helps with a) people can read what is allowed b) it's easy to sanction them because there are less grey areas it doesn't help with c) It kind of even makes it worse as we get situation when factions "trade" stuff around. (i.e. FA bombers for corsairs, corsair gbs for FA). It also promotes more elitism as it can be lot about who know's who. |
