Well I understood BaconSoda pov but this kind of behavior is leading to a very pissed off trader. You say you trade also, what will you do when a pirate ask for 5mil when you carry oxygen? (right, you will pay and put a bounty...) Mind you, if the pirate request would have been FAIR I would gladly pay but in this case...sorry. How about 10 mil? (still not sanctionable I suppose, pirate is indeed a d....)
I understand what the OP was talking about, in majority of the cases even if you are nice and you try to RP and to lower the sum requested by the pirate that doesn't get you nowhere. That's why because there are so many d.... pirates around you don't care anymore: if the sum is fair you pay, if it is not...kill me, I don't care.
It's easy to say " What is your life worth", with that line the trader/miner should pay any sum, even some astronomical ones.
Sorry, personally if the sum is fair I pay if it is not I won't.
In your pirate head you always see a power trader who wants money for a BS. I am playing for 1 year now (rarely but still) and I don't want/have any GB, BS etc. I just want some fun with my trading ship.

Well, after 7 pages of what could be called only all out lynch i am here just to say i am leaving GC server, i already started out fresh on Archie's portals of discovery, i want you to know i hold no grudge against any of you, i just don't see eye to eye with this community, i may still swing back to forum from time to time to see what is happening(although i doubt ill comment) but i will not log on server anymore, if i cant have the benefits of RP then i don't want its restrictions either, i will be better off on server that honestly states they only care about PvP, im giving off my characters, movecharcode is alpha, there is about 180 mil on miner and up to 10 mil on other chars, maybe Tomtomrawr should get the miner, it would be kind of poetic justice since then he would be the one whose miner was blown up, this are charnames.

I wouldnt pay astronomical for any life worth. Respawn button. IF pirates can be tards, ill be as well. Blow me up, I dont care. No coin for either side, cba;)

I suppose the point of the argument is what we really consider to be roleplay. In my eyes, there's two applicable sets of ideas that our roleplay is intended to possess.
1. Conversational RP. This is where you chat with those around you, be they friends or enemies, and further your character's story.
2. Just going out and doing your job. Being traffic through the systems, trading, getting pirated, pirating, mining, shooting at lawful/pirates. Just generally upholding the regular actions of what your character is supposed to be doing.
While having someone who does both is fabulous, I'm of an opinion that the second is the more important aspect. There is absolutely some player consideration to be had when playing your role, but that role still exists. Roleplay doesn't always have to be about life stories before the antimatter gets unloaded.
That said, let's try on this new hat...

"RP" or what some consider it to be, is foreplay to get shot. Respawn button and other things ingame make it just a game, and roleplay relevance fails with salvo of shots.
