RE: Civilian Cruiser - Coin - 10-28-2013 necro-thingy RE: Civilian Cruiser - Vipera Berus - 10-28-2013 As far as I know theres only one frigate in the game - the salvage frigate the junkers have if this model was made into a generic frigate similar to the salvager then I think it might work. RE: Civilian Cruiser - ssc - 10-30-2013 Since I haven't visited this topic in awhile, maybe the idea isn't as "Blasphemous" as some thought. The fact that Discovery Mod is taking a very violent change, having GRN roaming the galaxy without any opposition from their space to Bretonia and into Kusari, a form of such ships could be possible. Large gunboats are basically frigates for combat, a civilian ship, almost the size of a cruiser, maybe 25%-50% shorter than cruisers, could be possible. I am trying another 3D program, cause all the others I tried won't do easy UV. Maybe with this one, I can. I am going to go back and remake something like it, but not the same. RE: Civilian Cruiser - Eugen - 10-30-2013 oh i like the idea of an freelancer (Trader or pirat) who has got hold of enough money (dont ask how ) to buy a capital ship from lets say Samura, (would implie that the farmers could also get hold of it ) and they see a market in it to build more for wealthy civilians who want´s "that"extra security for them.
RE: Civilian Cruiser - Mr.Fabulous - 10-30-2013 Seeing as how we have Basic Turrets for almost any cap-line, there ought to be someone producing "civilian"-grade capitals. Civilian caps could work, but just make them have inferior firing arcs / turret count / powercore / technerfed-bad / bad at tradelanes and jumpgates / just-anything-that-makes-them-not-as-good-as-faction-produced-caps to give indies/unofficials a chance to have a taste of capital flying, but would have to use superior numbers to fight off factional caps. Groups like Renzu, IMG, GMG, Zoners can produce these. Civilian Cruiser Civilian Battleship Civilian Carrier EDIT: After a quick thought, the biggest problem with having civilian caps is that it diminishes the favorability of fighters in the long run. Now EVERY INDIE would want to fly a cap, just to compensate for something they lack below their belts because it's awesome to fly caps. So it's understandable this'll probably not be implemented. I think you'll find that "civilian warship" is a contradictory term. Anyone who carries such heavy armaments into space stopped being a civilian the moment they undocked. The only non-military and non-unlawful militia factions that can afford Cruisers are corporations, so at the very least it would have to be a corporate cruiser. Besides, the closest thing to a civilian warship in the mod currently are Zoner capital ships, most of which were a terrible idea to have roaming freely in their current form (players forgetting that they're supposed to be colony ships, not warships). The model itself looks quite basic, and also has strong visual similarities to the "Hel" Rheinland Pirate Cruiser / "Vidar" Hessian Cruiser. A fair bit of work needs to be done before this submission is ready to be reviewed. If you can't or won't texture it yourself, you will need to find someone else to do it. Addendum: Model submissions are judged first on the quality of the model itself, and its suitability to replace an existing model or be added as a new ship. Since the thematic/lore details are finalised by the Dev Team, a model of suitable quality might find a place in the mod, but not necessarily where the modeller originally envisioned. Just because a ship is presented to fill a niche that doesn't yet exist does not guarantee an exception will be created for that ship: Generic IDs are highly unlikely to ever receive access to Cruisers. However, our desired focus for new models is on replacing imported models and other low-quality models. RE: Civilian Cruiser - Echo 7-7 - 10-30-2013 You're assuming I think in-House cap lolwuttery is acceptable; you assume too much. Also, while my comment was pretty broad, I didn't say that there weren't Zoners who roleplay in their caps. Trogdor Wrote:1. There are a lot of things in Disco that don't make sense. 1. That is a very poor excuse for not improving the current situation. 2. The ID system, which prevents generic IDs from accessing Cruisers currently, implies that the answer is no. I personally do not see a need to challenge that. RE: Civilian Cruiser - Omicron - 10-30-2013 The only way I see civilian cruisers actually happening are huge utility "warships" with very, very limited firepower. This thing can be already achieved already with properly equipped CAU8 liners and some transports. RE: Civilian Cruiser - ssc - 10-30-2013 I would only go as far as making a series of "Merc" warships that only go to a ship a little smaller than a cruisers. Reason I'm sticking with that limit is to make it even that if these ships were to engage a naval or pirate cruiser, you would need 1 or 2 more of the Merc cruisers to take em on, on equal terms. I am thinking to make it balanced, "Merc" cruisers would have to be lower in various aspects, since they wouldn't have the access to military grade weapons and tech. I did say when I started this, that the idea would need to have limitations since this would balance it out alright. I would keep the cores where the ships would be able to sustain constant fire, but limit hull strength. I am thinking ahead for this. |
