If we're talking means and ways used since World War 2, they don't involve battleships, though, so I fail to see your point. There are reasons for modern fleets not constructing new battleships. Capships, increasingly slower fighters? Or strategic weapons? - El Nino - 08-22-2008 Well the battleships of Sirius are used as carriers and bases... Perhaps we nerf their guns, and give them really tough shields and armor, and looooads of regens, so they can "support" fighters... while at the same time keep their weapons nerfed enough that they can't hit cruisers at 2k (slow speed not low damage) that would give them some feel... Joke to the side thou, BS's are replacements for carriers of our days, and with a fleet of fighters they can do their jobs well. The problem is that a fleet of fighters can do their job well regardless of that battleship... The reson there are no BS's today, is becouse hardly anyone needs big cannons anymore, while you can mount the same heavy missiles to a cruiser, or even a submarine. A cruiser is in all regards cheaper to make easier to run, faster, and haves most of the time the same firepower. It's much the same here, cruisers are 7 times cheaper, and only half as bad... I was alive all along. What I've found funny: ya coming under a weird name, behaving like a true ass ingame with a bunch of noobs instead of helping, doing all you can to report... ah, it feels good if we are rude. And asking unnamed Spyglass captains if he knows how "good" is "Ernst.Stavro.Blofeld" in pvp... guess you got your answer from the aforementioned captain;) And yeh, any cap pilot would do the same. Just get your head under the pillow again, and cry some more. Oh and before you write something smarter than until now, lemme get my paper... (rofl) Capships, increasingly slower fighters? Or strategic weapons? - Bill Christ. - 08-22-2008 ' Wrote:chopper, i think you missed the concept here.... a single bomber, or even two, should NOT be able to kill a battleship when the thing is nailing them full broadside. currently it takes the lib dreads full gun loadout 60 consecutive hits on a rheinland bomber to kill it. this is absurd. Exactly. I might have explained myself badly. My point was in a smaller ship you can at least dodge incoming fire and use manuverability to your advantage. What I mean is why get a BS when it's clearly just an oversized target that wouldn't stand a chance against 2 or 3 bombers? Capships, increasingly slower fighters? Or strategic weapons? - Jinx - 08-22-2008 mainly, cause it would be a dull server with only bombers around. - but you really cannot expect a battleship to withstand "reasonable" firepower ( reasonable does not mean realistic - reasonable is what forces you can "generally" muster to attack someone - and that is very often some 3 or 4 people ) i think everyone would agree that this is not ww2 and these battleships share nothing with ww2 battleships other than their class description. - but making them as powerful as they "ought" to be ( from the point of view of a fighter ) would mean to make them too powerful. they should prolly be just like the stationary BBs. - when you fire on them, they won t budge or take any damage. - when you disable their guns, they are repaired after some time - but you simply cannot kill them with some fighter ( think of original freelancer with the titan as the heaviest fighter and no bombers ) now that they are playerships though, they need to be somewhat weaker than they "ought" to be, cause otherwise its simply no fun - for both, the battleship AND the fighters. - how much fun is it to fly a ship that is invincible to pretty much everything? but its an act of balance to achieve a "hard enough to kill" ship that can dish out significantly much damage without taking any chance from an attacker. - on the other side, we do also not want bombers that are invincible - and thats what makes it hard... and all that meets somewhere in the middle ... as a compromise. bombers will not be like they ought to be - and battleships will not be like that either. - but we try to get as close as possible to a state where a battleship "feels" as if its worth its money and a bomber feels as if it has a chance to actually hurt the battleship, too.
