Questions on the latest "Administrator Notice" - Zeltak - 01-11-2009

I have lurked and stayed away from all these sort of discussions seeing that I will either add more to the endless arguments or be plainly ignored. But I honestly don't see what all the problem is about, I'm sorry but I really can't see how such a big deal this faction "disaster" is.

I have personally been always in at least one faction, never truly "independent". I have seen/experienced the good that comes with being in a faction and the bad. Though I'm officially only in one faction I play with many other ones and I engage in their problems and politics sometimes, trying to solve them.

When I get "online" to discovery, I play the game, I don't sit around in the forums. I do that -after- playing the game itself for the sole reason to write down events/experiences related to in-game, usually that ends up in a regular message dump post, but every time I'm proceeding to do that, threads such as this appear. This constant battle between "we" and "them", these endless debates and complaining on who is right and who is wrong, it never seizes to stop. I wonder sometimes if these people enjoy this, do they enjoy this drama and this need to blame on somebody for anything? The independents nor the factions are so evil as many seem to portray them being, I play this game alot and I don't see these rulebreakers/annoying people/OORP/spammage of x ship. Granted it can happen that this sort of bad game play occurs but not in the way it's described here or in similar threads, not in this huge scale everyone seem to believe it is. The Game and the people playing it are OK and when I'm finished my gaming for the day I'm OK too. Almost every time.

I don't know about you guys, but I just play the damn game and I'm happy with what it offers. Sure you can get ticked off or annoyed by something but in the end it's all fun. If it isn't then what's the reason we are here?

Now I'm returning to my lurking state once again...

It matters because independents with no idea what they're doing or malicious intent get large ships, start causing trouble and get us into wars. Hello, KNF invasion, hello 'Hey, you, I wanna duel! Come on, fight me!" Hello "Hahaha! You're no commander. You're just some guy in a Sabre. I'm in a dreadnought, you do what I tell you." . We don't need that at the moment, and I won't stand for it.

When I was offered command of the 101st I was signing up for glory, association with the most respected group of Outcasts on the server, and the chance to serve and improve the Outcast playerbase. I wanted to make a difference.

Not so much I can do that anymore, though. Now I'm not sure which of the games going on here I'm supposed to be playing anymore.

EDIT: Sorry, Zeltak, but the only indies the SCRA has to deal with are the ones they blow up.

Aye, most of the time we do blow up the indies we meet. However, that is usually because they engage us in the first place. But once in a while we meet up with people such as Viktor Navorski, who is an independent player and proves himself he can roleplay but most importantly he RESPECTS us and thus we respect him. Out of all the bad things that can happen, out of all the OORP I experience, if I once just find a person like him, it is all worth it, because then I know there are still people out there that are willing to play the game and do so correctly.

I understand that my opinions and the way I view the game isn't the same as for everyone and I know that It's easier for me to enjoy it simply because I don't have to deal with so many indies ruining the "NPC-faction" I happen to be in. But it still doesn't change the fact that you can enjoy the game by playing with the people you respect and like. If you learn to ignore the bad and focuse on the good you will find the game more appealing, and I actually don't spend my most in-game time as my SCRA character, infact I usually play on my Outcast character. The so called cap spamming OORP lolwutting people, hmm strange that I don't see that so often it is very strange, for the past three weeks I have been really active, I have only once witnessed a bad form of roleplay of the outcast players. But I just ignore it, I just ignore the bad and play the game for what it's worth, and I do my best to enjoy it, thus I somehow *gasp* like the game!

That you haven't seen such unpleasant (OO)RP in Outcast space is because of the cap controls 101st and later Council of Dons as a whole has been running there for some time, I'd imagine.

Eppion speaks the truth, i remember back in the day how he destroyed my OC IFF/ID'd sabre in front of Malta with one of his 101st OC "blimp" Dreads while i was idling. Capwhoring of such degree has dwindled a bit.

Why shouldn't they get 'you' into wars?
Why shouldn't you get 'them' into wars?
Why should 'them' not get into wars?
Why should 'you' not get into wars?

If 30 indendants all wanted to start a war and 10 faction members didn't. Why should the independants have to obey the faction who is in minority?

If it really is just a few independants causing trouble, other factions are not idiots. I doubt the 101st considers the actions of one independant Nomad to be the complete intentions of the entire Nomad group. If a faction does consider it like that, then they are just looking for a war anyway, and will get one one way or another.

You can't say your RP is 'better' than there's either, it's just different. You may consider it 'better' but others may not.

The entire basis of Disco seems to be that you do your RP your way and as long as you don't break the rules, you are fine.
All of this 'I wanna control you' or 'You are trying to control me! Power mongers!' really just seems to be trying to put something onto this mod that it just wasn't made for.
