Remnants and Fallout - arvg - 07-11-2011 Captain Alvarez sat in the Hispania's command chair, staring in shock at the great bridge windows, the transponders beeping a warning as the Coalition task force closed in upon them. The darkness of deep space seemed claustrophobic to the proud young man, when the realization washed over him that he had just destroyed both the Maltese and Cretian Nations, and the Coalition as well. Sirius as they knew it, was gone, wiped away. It would never exist, and so neither did any of them. "Paradox," Doctor XiaoBei remarked, standing a few feet away from him. "But that was the plan of this mission, to create a paradox where we controlled the Hispania..." "But?" Alvarez asked, looking up at last towards the doctor. "But we don't have time to crack the Hispania's computers before the Coalition forces are upon us. We can't change its course, and we can't complete our mission. Which means..." "The Coalition dies with the Hispania," Alvarez surmised. "There is always another option," the enigmatic doctor replied, lighting a cigarette. "We detonate one of our onboard bombs, taking out one of the main engines. Then engage the faster than light drives. It will knock the Hispania off course, and with a little creative programming, I can fire the engines in a sequence that will put the Hispania in a giant loop of Sirius... the best we can hope for is that it will circle around Sirius and end up where we want it. But it is much like firing a bullet to hit another bullet in mid air. Not exactly an exact science." "Doctor," Alvarez stated standing. "You should get back to the Resurgency, and tell Admiral Broch the plan. We're going to need someone to... delay that war fleet." He pointed at Comrade Ling. "Get back with him, they're going to need a good pilot." Taking a deep breath, Enrico Alvarez looked around him at the remaining cluster of Coalition officers. "Hermanos, I want you to take the Alliance uniforms off of the dead men, and jettison the bodies along with your coalition uniforms. Get dressed... When the Resurgency breaks seal from the Hispania, we're going to be all alone over here..." His mind was wildly flying. They had killed the command crew, and the security forces, leaving them with a small chance that once they engaged the drives, they could slip into the stasis pods and ride out the rest of the journey. Once they hit the other end they could impersonate the officers and blend in." He stripped the uniform off of the former Alliance Captain, holding up the badge with his family's name on it, his ancestor. A few minutes later he was dressed, setting the baseball cap on his head with the Spanish command leaves on its brims. He stepped to the communications console, "Admiral Broch, we're ready on this end, awaiting your orders." Remnants and Fallout - Shagohad - 07-11-2011 ![]() The two warships with fighter escort were closing fast. The glow of their engines could be seen on the dim horizon as they made flank speed to annihilate the troublesome Alliance that dared to escape. The fate of both parties had already been decided; rendering these gnats a nuisance ready for termination. "Raise shields," Angelica said calmly, her fingers drumming at the armrest of her command chair. Outside, the hull of the Resurgency shimmered as it seemed to gain a certain weight to its appearance. "Plot a firing solution for our mortar and prepare solaris turrets for fighter interception. I have no time for their intrusion." The crewmen deftly tapped away at their consoles as the screens relayed the commands into physical representation. The first Coalition cruiser became a cross hair as the mortar lined it up for a killing blow. "Target is locked on; awaiting your command." "Send them back to Sol," She barked as the mortar let loose moments later. The bright blue miniature star sped towards the helpless vessel that veered to try and avoid the siege weapon. Its eagerness was its downfall; moving too quickly to maneuver, the ship took the mortar directly to the bow. The ship was smashed like a bowel of eggs, its bow disintegrate as its innards spewed from the newly created bisection. Its sister ship slowed immediately, sharply veering to the right so as not to share the same fate. "Clever bastard learns," Angelica mused quietly, "We can wait them out. Nothing they can do to hurt us." "Fighters inbound. Solaris turrets active and targeting." "Very good. Make sure none of them get near the Hispania." "They aren't even denting the shiel-" "High energy signature detected from the second ship!" A crewmen interrupted. "Unknown power distribution, could be a weapon." "Target it and take it out. Our mortar should be cycled by now." The barrel leveled and the cross hair reappeared. "Send it back to he-" The vessel distorted forward, as though it were being sucked at by a powerful vacuum cleaner, before disappearing. "Where did it go?" The question was shortly answered by the vessel reappearing directly in front of them, its weapons glowing a bright blue as the forward battery had them clearly in its firing arc. The next few moments seemed to slow down as the first blue bolts of light smashed into the shielded Resurgency. Men were thrown from their seats as the siege weapon raked the advanced warship, its shields absorbing the brunt of the attack, but were evidently failing at keeping the onslaught at bay. "Dammit, you need to fight back," Angie screamed as she waded through the cataclysmic shakes that plagued the deck. Seizing the gunner by the scruff of the neck, she tore from his post and quickly seated herself. "Not much different from a Barghest," she mused, "But a very big one at that..." The twin battlerazors that the Resurgency held as close range boxing weapons pivoted as the shield flickered and lost stability. The forward cannons walked their fire along the side of the vessel, their blue bolts of energy practically stitching damage into their middle and aft. It was all they could manage before the twin blazes of white hot energy eviscerated the aft end of the enemy vessel. The entire engine of the archaic vessel was lopped in half, drifting away before exploding. "Enemy vessel crippled, Vice Admiral," A crewman who had managed to sit at his console reported. "Tell Ling to get a team ready and prepare for boarding action. We need to see what's going on in that ship." Remnants and Fallout - mtjsmith - 07-11-2011 ![]() It has not been easy. The DNA-ARC was much larger and unwieldy than expected. Fortunately, a nearby airlock allowed Ling, Kato and Holmes to drop the ARC into space where the tractor beam on the Resurgency did the rest. More Alliance soldiers attacked and by the time they were all dispatched unto hell, Ling was alone. Holmes was taken by a single shot to the skull. Kato lay dying on the deck and again.. Ling was forced to do the honourable thing. He had liked Kato, after this mission he would have asked her out. Grief, shock and anger grew as he stood there in a phony Sol Coalition uniform. Upon reaching the command deck, he was ordered back to the Resurgency armed with a plan.. And the real Coalition attacked. Upon reaching the bridge, the battle had just been won. [color=#66FFFF]"Tell Ling to get a team ready and prepare for boarding action. We need to see what's going on in that ship." "Right behind you.. And on it." He ran down the corridor to the armoury. No expense was to be spared here. The young Captain was out for vengeance. He didn't care that, this time, it would be Coalition soldiers that they would be fighting. Head's would roll, quite literally if his sword did its job. He pulled on the flexi-armour and he suddenly felt the rush of power which pulling on this suit gave. He wouldn't be invincible, or unstoppable.. However with a sharpness of mind he had never felt before.. He was damn near close to. "TAC-COM online. It's drifting about and we're still tethered to the Hispania. Only option is to take a little walk dui? I'll take a small team over and capture the ship. Prepare for evac." The five men stood at the airlocks door as it was flung open and the strike team were sucked into space. Using the small jets on their back - They manoeuvred towards the crippled Coalition vessel. "Knock knock?" Remnants and Fallout - arvg - 07-12-2011 Down in Engineering, Doctor XiaoBei was sweating, staring at the strained reactor guages. "We were never supposed to go into full combat like that," he muttered. Sipping his tea and punching console buttons, trying to figure out a plan. The Resurgency was a cosmetic design, which meant that while they had modern weaponry, their power core had been based on the old designs. 800 year old reactors were never designed to run the latest weaponry that Sirius had to offer. "Counter clockwise!" XiaoBei yelled through the safety glass that faced the main reactor chamber where Guinea pig number four was trying to push the reactor rods, by hand, into the coolant. Of course the previous three crewmen that had attempted to stop the Resurgency from going thermonuclear were now on the deck of the reactor core, literally cooked from the inside out. But no one had time to really think on that. "Look, you muppet, if you don't do this right, I am going to have to send in another one of these guys to do it again after you..." Xiaobei pointed threateningly at another engineering crewman. The kid literally burst into tears, begging for his life. XiaoBei ignored it, it was either send in wave after wave of red clad engineering ensigns, or face the very real prospect that they would all be blown sky high. "Admiral Broch... your highness, your one way ticket to hell is still all expenses paid, you know, first class all the way, nothing but the best for you..." He tossed the TAC down on the console. "COUNTER BLOODY CLOCKWISE... I don't care if your eyeballs are melting!" Remnants and Fallout - mtjsmith - 07-13-2011 ![]() The strike team were having a high measure of success. Caught off guard, the Coalition Marines were unable to stop Ling's team from butchering their way up to the Bridge. Ling roughly knew the layout on this old vessel but it did not help when a heavy blast door was in the way. [color=#FFFF33]"They've sealed themselves off. Clever." A man, his suit read Davids, stood forward - Charges in hand. "The old fashioned way? This is an old ship after all. Do it." The charges were set and the door was blown off. Gunfire erupted from the other side, and Ling's team shot back. Hearing the screams of man after man dying, Ling charged forward. His mind full of fury, a red mist descended on his vision. In fact, it was blood from the soldier he had sliced in two - Ling wiped it away. "Oh, this is the bridge." He looked down at the legless corpse, it was wearing a Commander's uniform. "Ling to Resurgency, The ship is ours. Crew exterminated. Requesting orders." Remnants and Fallout - arvg - 07-15-2011 The Coalition officers on the Hispania watched the Coalition ships do battle. The strength and power of the SCRA eclipsing the Sol Coalition's might in brilliant flares of light. And with them, died the Sol Coalition's ambitions of ever stopping the sleeper ships. The Hispania's great drives had engaged, leaving the Resurgency and the Coalition warships behind as it roared back up to speed. Alvarez gripped onto the arms of the command chair as he nodded to one of his sub-lieutenants. The Lieutenant depressing the trigger of the detonator, blowing a great hole in the drive section in a massive conflagration of fire and molten steel. The Hispania pitched like a wild buffalo that had been bitten by a crocodile, the Coalition crew were hurled around inside like rag dolls, as the Hispania veered off of course, trailing debris as the other engines dumped more power into the acceleration, one of them flickering and burning out. Alert klaxxons blared throughout the Hispania, as Alvarez picked himself up from the deck, looking at the survivors. "To the stasis pods," he called, pushing them towards the doors, as consoles overloaded and exploded, sealing the fate of the Hispania to the course that Doctor XiaoBei had destined for them. Rushing through the decks, the scattered Coalition crew clambered into the pods, each securing themselves as the pods cycled through their hibernation cycle, the air in the great ship escaping through the massive hole in the hull, it was like battling through a hurricane. Alvarez found his pod, getting into it as he lifted the TAC-link. "Resurgency..." he called above the din. "We're in the stasis pods... I... I have no words... tell my father... if he ever exists... that I am doing my duty." The pod sealed around him, and the hibernation cycle began. The Hispania careened through space, its crew and the intruders locked in an endless slumber while the ship began to die. Remnants and Fallout - mtjsmith - 07-16-2011 ![]() Ling's team saw the great ship jump off and he knew that they had missed a glorious opportunity. One which would never come round again. The orders came down from the TAC-COM, download everything from this vessel so that it can be used for... What... [color=#FFFF33]"The Resur... Resurgent!? This.. this ship is the Resurgent?!" He rubbed his head trying to understand. He prodded a few more buttons on the tactical console, but there was no shifting the readout the ship was giving him. There can't be two of them can there? Or maybe there was only this one, and staring at it was it's future self. Ling shook his head, he doubted even XiaoBei could explain this one away. "Ling to Admiral Broch. We're in a little conundrum here, however I've had an idea. It seems our cruise drives are all fried but the grappling arms are still functional. We'll lock on and follow you in tow. Woah hoh! Resurgency, your power levels are spiking!" Ling brought up a scan of the Resurgency, it's aft sections glowing a distinct Orange and turning further red. "May I make a suggestion? Can we get the hell out of here?!" Remnants and Fallout - arvg - 07-16-2011 "I certainly second that recommendation Admiral," Doctor XiaoBei called through the TAC. The power levels were all over the place, even though piggy number eight had managed to get the rods inserted and turned the right way. They weren't in any kind of condition to keep on as they were. "I recommend a long burn up to speed, while we get into our Stasis pods... and hope we make it." He shook his head looking at the power levels. they might hit half speed, at best, but what the reactors really needed was an extended cool down time. And that would only be possible once they clambered into the pods. He waved to an engineer, covering the TAC, "get the hibernation pods ready, and see to it that the DNA-ark we stole is secured." He released the mic. "Ma'am we don't have much time, your orders?" Remnants and Fallout - Shagohad - 07-16-2011 ![]() It had all gone to hell and back. Things were exploding, people were screaming, and XiaoBei was yet again running his mouth about inane technical business. Angie was a military commander, not a God damn engineer. She quickly brought up a finger and directed it to a bewildered techy. "You," she practically screamed, "I want you to hold the good Doctor's hand, tell him to take his medicine, then do as he instructs. I'm sick and tired of his voice." Since the voyage began, it seemed as though he was running the show. Was she now supposed to sit atop a commanding chair and look pretty? She switched her comms over to Ling, liking his voice and attitude more than the fussy doctor's. "Your plan sounds excellent. I can't think of a better one at the moment. Get to your pods and leave the bridge to me. I think I can handle this little of the trip." Without even waiting for a response, she killed the comm. With all due haste, she stood up and commanded absolute silence, "All non essential personnel to the helm and navigation, proceed to your cry pods. Helm, I need you to plot a course to these coordinates and then instruct the navigational computers to stop there. On the dot. I don't care if you have a candle system and a string. Get it done or we have a very long trip ahead of us." Surprisingly enough, the response was a chorus of 'Yes, ma'am.'s and the actions being carried out. That was new. Without even seeing that they completed their tasks, she briskly exited the bridge and made haste towards her cryo pod. Remnants and Fallout - arvg - 07-18-2011 800 years later The trio of Taidan-class bombers swept through the Siberian Ice field on an intercept course with the intruder. "This is Whiskey Tango Three to Whiskey Lead, I have the Bogie on scopes." "Confirmed Three, close on target and go for visual inspection." Lead replied. Knowing that the Commissariat and His Watchful Eye were watching the events unfolding with keen interest. Before them, in the mists of the nebula, an ancient Sol warship drifted, alone and forgotten. Battle-scarred and war weary. Grand Admiral MacIntosh, the supreme leader of the Coalition, would be very pleased at the find. Though no one knew that the arrival was nearly twenty years too early. Lt. Ricardo Alvarez, Whiskey-Tango-Leader, gripped the controls of his bomber and swept in for a close inspection of the scarred and pitted ships hull. "Lieutenant," three called over the TAC. "I am getting a transponder code on one of our frequencies for a Comrade Ling... though the only Comrade Ling I have in the database is the son of the regional governor of New HangZhou... and he is two..." Alvarez raised an eyebrow, "This is going to get complicated, mi hermanos." |
