The only solution to Rheinland's economic situation is clearly to ally with Gallia and invade Cambridge, declare peace, and give it back in exchange for massive reparations, so they can buy back all the good stuff they had to pretty much sell off after the 80 Years War. Though I suppose they'd need to be able to fix Planet Stuttgart, too, so they had better steal some terraforming technology while in Bretonia.

Though I guess that still leaves most of the IC problem. Perhaps, I dunno, sell something to Kusari?

The corsairs and every single enemy of Rheinland that can afford a bit of a loss should launch a full scale war against the house right now. Take advantage of Rheinland's economic crisis and catch 'um with their pants down. At least.. that's my opinion.

Because this hasn't been already happening.

' Wrote:This not just in: Rheinland and Kusari nationalized their lane network. Access denied to IC. IC demands money. Rheinland is like "lolno". IC mad.
also uh, why would the RM defect? Its just a corporation that isnt following the laws of the house they built a station in.

You do understand that Rheinland has to have money to pay Agiera and DSE to keep those lanes running, right? Take a wild guess as where the cash flow comes from? Oh. IC, the same corporation that has been funding Rheinland for ages.

Why would RM defect? Oh I don't know, probably the same reason the Hessians exist?

This may seem a bit biased coming from me....
but you need only look at the modern world to see what the barest hint of a country about to default on debt does to it's economy.
And this isn't some ma and pa bank either.
If Rheinland is prepared to tell the single largest financial entity in all of Sirius to go screw itself, will that truly inspire confidence in their credit rating? Who loans money to them after that?

Who loans them money now?
Everyone is war-torn. Most corporations look after themselves and/or their governments. IC at the current state is the one that isn't heavily bound to government, does not care about wars (imho), and has enough money to do that kind of stunts.

But that is my personal take on the matter.

Sorry, but the simple fact is that IC| brought this upon themselves by refusing to curb independents hauling to the Hessians. *shrug* You gotta look from our side, we simply cannot allow people to haul to what we see as a terrorist organization (I'm speaking as a BDM| ), the Government HAS to be seen as doing SOMETHING to stop it, IC was asked to curb this but they kept side-stepping it and demanding their indies be allowed to keep hauling in Rheinland and possibly continuing the supplying to the Red Hessians.

You see where there's an issue here? Yes Rheinland will suffer, but IC loses 1/4th of their consumer base (Liberty, Rheinland, Bretonia and Kusari), so they're gonna hurt too. I don't count Gallia, smaller orgainzations or the children of the Hispania however. It's all a matter of who will break/recover first which is what this event will determine. I am personally all for it.

So, time to arrange a contract with Hessians as DSE, Ageira and Solar indies and see what chances are left? 8-|

Fine, let's solve the issue.
Let's Fr2 all the indies....oh wait.
Nope. Tried that. Can't. It's faction lore remember? And BONUS POINTS. What do you do to several hundred people all not listening to you? Not to mention that I;'m pretty sure Fr2ing indies to STOP THE BLOODY SMUGGLING isn't exactly going to fly with the admins, as it's not exactly counter to IC lore.
Well, let's try to educate them.
All several hundred (possibly into the thousand) of them.
Nope.
They don't listen.
Fine then, last resort, FR5 the idiots.....oh wait nope.
Couldn't even get a bloody FR5 on the IC|Moscow, much less some random noob.
We didn't bloody refuse to curb independents. We spend more time and energy and goodwill on trying to get a bloodyhandle on them than you can possibly imagine.
There were days where i would log in and spend my entire play time messaging random IC Id's flying past, trying to tell them about hte Rheinland laws.
But here's the thing:
There was, is, and never will be anything, no tool, no ability, no faction right that will allow IC|, or any other official Interspace faction, to control their indies in the manner you are suggesting.
Just look at the bloody IMG-Kruger war, if you don't believe me.
You think the IMG| was all like "YEAH, PIERAT THEM KRUGER< LETS GET KIKED OUT OF RHEINLAND 4EVUR!"
No.
Really just no.
They hated those renegades as much as the Kruger did.
The IC| indie issue has never been about what we do. It's always been about the Rheinland factions valuing their precious roleplay above basic fairplay.
I mean, we had no traction. None whatsoever.
And hell, whenever i went out and tried to recruit guys into IC|, they always told me "You guys will just stop me from using the most profitable trade routes, no thanks, i'll jsut smuggle instead".
Well, some of them were'nt quite so well-spoken, but it was the gist of every bloody conversation i had in-game for months.
And you know what? Eventually i gave up, beacuse I was getting nowhere.
Hell, i was getting even worse.
Every bloody day more and more reports of IC indies breaking the embargo poured in.
and hey, you know what the real kicker is?
Ninety five percent of em weren't even shipping illegal goods. Just things specifically forbidden to IC.
If I had managed to just once, just goddamn once gotten the list expanded to include common trade goods in rheinland........
But nope.
MUST HAVE KRIEG.
