Share your RP inspiration sources - Swallow - 07-06-2013
Basically, literature, movies, games, anime, etc. - where do you take "bricks" to build up the RP of your character? Or everything comes from your head, or lore?

those are inspirations, not necessarily used as RP though.

Actually I rarely use any known sources but my imagination.
And drugs.
Only source I can think of right now is System Shock from where I had the idea to have the powerhungry AI "Shodan" being 're-incarnated'.

I like the stuff that makes it seem 'real', focus on the mundane, boredom, day to day stuff.
First half of Alien (before the Alien shows up) and especially Dark Star (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS2HzIwEeDI) are great for the extremely unglamorous boring 'reality' of commercial/industrial space flight. (Despite one being a pretty campy comedy and the other being an atmospheric horror, the two are connected, Alien is born from Dark Star, and written by the same guy). Couldn't recommend Dark Star strongly enough to anyone who spends a lot of time in transports. Also like a lot of the grittier/dirtier sci fi, Blade Runner, Cowboy Bebop and so on. Also weirdly things like Sealab, people trapped in weird high tech workplaces they have no interest in, influence me just as much as stuff with actual spaceships etc in.
Making Cryer I did a lot of research in to rl pharmaceutical companies too, especially (what I assume is) the main inspiration for them - Bayer.
