Biometric ID - Zen_Mechanics - 07-08-2013

Well, following englands efforts to stamp out privacy, the israeli government made the approval of replacing the plastic ID cards that citizens have, with an electronic one.

Means, not only that they will have our address, family links, but also our finger prints. - This will be stored in an "offline" database that only the government can use ( yeah right ).

What's your take on this? Personaly Its more of a security threat then it is on privacy.

Having everything in one place could heavily ease different paper actions...

But wouldn't you consider the security threat? - or the fact that some dumb ass politician who is too busy filling his own pocket then enhancing the softwares that should prevent ilegal charges on people based on "faked" evidence?. - You might drink coffe one day and a year later find out that theres been a shooting in that place, and walla your finger print is right there, on the table ( preserved by who knows how ) - Just a scenario which im sure a lot of people think about.

Edit : It works in both ways, it will ease the police with finding suspects via fingerprints ( since most criminals actually have social numbers and etc.. )

If someone needs to find a guilty one, he'll do so...
I still think that there are more positive moments than negative.

You're making fingerprint forgery sound easier than it is ... last I checked you actually need a physical fingerprint to fake one not just some 1s and 0s on a database. The only potential security risk I can think of for having fingerprints on a database would be someone hacking and changeing the information, which considering its an offline database would be very difficult.

As ID cards / papers we don't really have anything like that in the UK, I mean I don't even have a passport anymore since I don't really leave the country. The closest thing I have to an ID card would be my driving license, but I'm only required to keep that on me whilst I'm driving.
