Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Nightmouse - 07-10-2008 Just a quick question I'd like to see answered. Today i was stopped by a pirate who was accompanied by a merc (sorta). Any way, the pirate demanded that i gave both of them (pirate AND merc) 5 million credits (which is a bit over the top IMO) So, my question is: is that merc allowed to receive pirated money directly from the pirated trader? Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Reverend Del - 07-10-2008 By their ID Mercenaries are allowed to occasionally pirate. So yes although 5 million each is hella steep. That's an entire runs profit. Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Grimly - 07-11-2008 Mercs can do EVERYTHING for money. Kill your best friend or worst enemy in front of you too ! Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Dra1003 - 07-11-2008 the money they demanded to to high in my book... of coarse i dont have an advanced train but its still sorta high Pirates and Mercs mixing up - timmychen - 07-11-2008 What a mercenary can or cannot do is very vague. They can basically fulfill any contract, as long as it doesn't break server rules. You could PM a merc, hiring him to take out a specific target. However, a merc can attack you claiming they had a contract, but no proof to back it up (unless SSes are taken). Unless you were a specific target, I think the merc was in the wrong. But then again, unless admins have logs of chats (including private), it would be hard to prove that you were bountied. Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Stucuk - 07-11-2008 I don't see how merc's can pirate as there ID doesn't say they can pirate. They can protect people and kill people you hire them to kill, but according to there ID there is nothing which sais they can activly participate pirating. So i doubt very much that they can help pirates when there not hired to kill anyone specificaly or to protect someone. Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Tenacity - 07-11-2008 Huh... usually the mercs act more like terrorists, and the police and navy act more like pirates. I'll take a pirate over a police/naval player any day. They charge less when they catch you. Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Reverend Del - 07-11-2008 Quote:Pilot carrying this ID is a mercenary who works for him/herself, unwilling to join the Bounty Hunters Guild or any other faction. Mercenary ID grants its owner right to fulfil lawful and unlawful bounty contracts, escort traders and smugglers, hunt pirates and terrorists, participate in military operations on lawful or unlawful side. Mercenary ID owner is not allowed to pirate or trade on regular basis. The merc ID. As it is currently written it suggests that a mercenary is allowed to pirate occasionally. This was clearly one of those moments. Unless that is changed in 4.85 it is allowed for a merc to pirate every once in a while. Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Colonel Z.e.r.o. - 07-11-2008 Depends on a merc's alignment I think. If he's flying around with a OC tag flying an OC ship, he may have picked some of his new buddies' mannerisms (i.e. pirating.) Pirates and Mercs mixing up - Athenian - 07-11-2008 How often counts as a regular basis? Once a day? Twice a day? Should they be doing it in a lawful faction vessel? Should they be extorting money, taking what they can and then extorting some more? Should they demand 4 million from a level 42 trader? This is the behaviour of one merc I could name and shame. Seems a bit ridiculous. |
