Cruise speed trick. - Ninefour - 08-13-2013 Many times I've seen players using this -trick- to get their cruise speed higher than normal. Let's take an example of 2 ships chasing one another. One goes at 350 and another too goes at 350. Eventually the guy chasing gets closer and closer. What's the trick? Can it be counted as an abuse of game mechanics(sanctionable)? RE: Cruise speed trick. - utrack - 08-13-2013 Formation does that, but these two should be in one group afaik. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Scumbag - 08-13-2013 Freighters and light fighters can reach 400 cruise speed. And there are intercept courses, asteroid fields, lag spikes, a lot of things can interfere. If you chase people a lot you get better at it. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Remnant - 08-13-2013 When you are in a group, if you form up on someone who is ahead of you, the one behind will speed up to 365 (or something around there). A small speed boost, to slowly catch up to the person you are getting into a formation with. RE: Cruise speed trick. - sindroms - 08-13-2013 Nope. This is not a group catchup. This is called the Strafe Catchup, where you fly the ship while strafing, adding your strafe speed to the cruise speed. Tutorial will be made soon. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Izu Riekon - 08-13-2013 There is no trick. It is simple game mechanics and math. Ship 1 tries to escape and ship 2 follows. Unless ship 1 is flying in a perfect line, ship 2 will always close the gap as it can see the lead ship and create a more efficient flight path to cover the distance. I don't think it's sanctionable, it's game mechanics. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Hone - 08-13-2013 Ive always thought cruise speed shouldnt be static, there should be ways players can fly better to increase their speed, turning it into a competition about who can fly better, rather than who has more patience, and include player skill more. To make chases more fun and dynamic like a driving game. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Haste - 08-13-2013 Basically, your strafe speed adds up to your regular, linear speed. So move your cursor slightly off-target (to the left, or right, for example), and then strafe in the opposite direction. Let's say your target is straight ahead. Move your cursor so you're flying slightly to his left. Then strafe right. The speeds will add up, and you'll effectively move at about 360 m/s. Of course, whoever is running can actually do the same and you'll never catch up. RE: Cruise speed trick. - Hone - 08-13-2013 2 admins viewing, censoring inbound? |
