Rome Total War II....not to be - Lonely Werewolf - 09-12-2013 Well I was really excited with my copy arriving a few days ago. Have been extremely busy so only today got round to installing it. Was looking forward to some epic battles, maybe taking a few sweet screens or some nice replays/videos to. Alas, the damn thing won't even install... QQ So miserable right now
RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - Fifty. - 09-12-2013 Oh. Ouch. Get a refund! RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - kikatsu - 09-12-2013 Honestly after seeing some of the stuff around, like Angry Joe's review, you may not be missing much. You might want to pick up Shogun 2 instead :/ I always hate games that are letdowns like this... bah, but what can you do RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - SMGSterlin - 09-12-2013 I don't see how Rome Total War 2 can be all that different from RTW 1... It's still an RTS based in the same time... It can't really have any new weapons or places or anything, and still be historically correct. If you check some of the mods out for RTW 1 you actually notice how much is missing in the vanilla. Haven't really read about the new Rome II much, but apparently it's pretty bad compared to what was expected of it. RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - Eduard - 09-12-2013 I play Rome 2 for a few days now and I must say I am not disappointed, except for lag and the time it takes for the CPUs to make the turns, which I guess is a problem of optimization And the fact that in sieges, the attacking AI is most often rushing straight for the control zones ignoring the defenses on the way even though they sit right between them and the destination. I would have expected the interface to be more Rome and less Shogun 2, if you know what I mean... Other than these... I like it. The units are awesome, the graphics are good. The fact that you can combine land and naval battles is extraordinary. Diplomacy is also ok. What I hate is that it's kinda commercial, and money milking. They are planning to release new factions as DLCs, contrary with releasing them all at once like Rome Total War ( original ). But I can't really complain over the developer's money milking fantasies, I didn't buy the game... I... got it as a present. So yes. I wouldn't pay for it. But if it magically appears on my PC, then it's certainly a game I will spend hours on. But not something I would throw money for RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - SeaFalcon - 09-12-2013 edit: double post :| RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - Eduard - 09-12-2013 (09-12-2013, 06:23 PM)SeaFalcon Wrote:(09-12-2013, 03:56 PM)SMGSterlin Wrote: I don't see how Rome Total War 2 can be all that different from RTW 1... What I hate about it is that in sieges, the defending AI behaves abhorrently. It keeps hugging and hitting itself against the walls, trying to walk through them as if they weren't there. PS: Anyone here willing to play RTW1 over multiplayer? RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - Druen78 - 09-12-2013 RTW2 certainly has its issues, but what game doesn't have issues upon release? Remember when RTW1 systematically crashed at a certain turn because of an error in the history events code? Don't be so harsh on it, AI can be corrected, just wait for the first patch. RE: Rome Total War II....not to be - Jihadjoe - 09-12-2013 To be honest, I don't really think you're missing that much. Having played a fair few hours of R2TW, I'm a bit disappointed. There are some fairly central mechanics which are missing from the campaign. The whole thing looks like it's been slimmed down rather too much. The UI is kinda weird and doesn't really fit that well. The AI, both campaign and battle, tends towards being stupid. It's riddled with bugs. The multiplayer is a massive step back from Shogun 2... While I'm being patient with regards to the bug fixes and optimisation, I'm not that convinced by a lot of the choices made by the devs in terms of the actual features. I doubt it will ever be as good a game as Shogun 2. |
