PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - Jack_Henderson - 09-19-2013 Hiho! I have read that hitboxes were repaired. Kudos for that! We were pvping and it became totally obvious that compared to the last version, shields are very very hard to drop. Average players can pvp each other in a duel, practically never even dropping them with guns. Mines and MR worked sometimes (missiles obviously atm), but guns do not drop shields well. If I fly defensively, or even use something use shieldrunning (like in every groupfight the target would do), shields will be very very hard to drop at all. Why don't we have that shield bubble again that was really easy to hit? Hull is still the same hard to hit things (but that's being dealt with with missiles, mines, torps, etc...) In .86 fights felt like... chiseling at the hull with micro-tools, percent for percent. In .87 it feels atm like "I cannot even get to the hull bc shields are so hard to down." Dunno what your impression is. I am curious however. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - SeaFalcon - 09-19-2013 replace a hull gun with a deb. Since a lot has changed weapon/ship wise, you might have to change you standard layout as well to adapt to these changes. At least that's my point of view on it. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - Haste - 09-20-2013 The hitboxes haven't been repaired. The only snub that currently has an easily hittable shield hitbox once more is the Sabre*. Not sure if its hull hitbox is now as large as its shield box (that was the original plan, I believe). Most other ships remain several times harder to hit than they were. Be patient. It should be fixed. 'least, I can't imagine they're going to make the Sabre fifteen times easier to hit than any other ship 8) *) Oh, and the rest of the BW line, or so I've read. I must say it seems jack is right with some of the balance. But im pretty sure they will read it and then change something or at least discuss it. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - Scumbag - 09-20-2013 I just pvped a Titan and it seemed the same. He did have some trouble downing my Manta's shields though. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - aerelm - 09-20-2013 Changes made to shield hitboxes were not intentional and were more of an unpredicted side-effect to a few other changes. A fix is already in the works, and shield bubbles should be back to normal in one of the upcoming updates. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - henriking - 09-20-2013 I think that shield should be hard to drop coz normaly the shields are the main defence of any space ship. I mean in ever space game or in any space movie the shields not the hull are the main defence of the ship But in freelancer and disco most of all is the oposite. shields drop very fast and the hull takes most of the hits. i test it a mode of freelancer some time a go freewords tides of war the new one but was only demo they dint finished they put a very nice concept engine shields weapons where conected i mean the ship had one powercore. this powercore provide X amount of power that was dividet in the subsystems engine weapons and shields. when you where fighting and your shields went 50 % for example and you where shooting at the same time the power dropt much faster coz part of the power went to the weapon and part of the power went to regenerate shields. If you stop shooting the shields will generate faster. or another example if your shields where at 50 % and you start cruising the energy will start to go down to regenerate shields and the shields will regenerate slower if the power was finishet the shields will not regenerate and the cruise speed will drop from 500m/s to 300m/s. was a very nice concept they put on this mod and very useful and strategic in cap fights specaly. plus in caps fights , the caps where fighting from 3-8 or 10 k away not like here at point black range. It was a very nice mod with nice grafice, nice ideas, pvp and very very nice grafic and efects to bad that the swat team dint finishe it. i wold like to see some of this ideas in disco lets hope in next updates. Thanks for reading my long post and sory for my gramar RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - AeternusDoleo - 09-21-2013 This is a bug and is being worked on. Will take a lot of time to fix however since all the fighter hitboxes need to be redone. Really wish the game would have documented how shields are actually handled. Techy info: The shield link governs which hardpoint on the ship is used for it. Usually HpMount. The hitbox must have a hardpoint geometry defined for HpMount in order for a shield perimiter to work. None of the hitboxes have that, so I'll have to add them for all fighters, bombers and freighters. Not worried about gunboats and upwards, those ships are big enough. RE: PVP: Dropping shields is really hard now (even after Update #1) - Savi - 09-21-2013 Sub targeting a ship's component, usually the shield, will help you a little bit. Will take a lot of time to fix however since all the fighter hitboxes need to be redone. I'm assuming this was already done to the Sabre in update 1. Please note that even after that update the Sabre remains substantially harder to hit. Seems easier than the initial .87 release, but it's not at .86 level either. You can still see projectiles go through the model's "holes" and miss with shields up. You said, in your log, that you'll also go through crosshairs and the likes: did you alter the Sabre one as well? In short, it definitely feels different. "Feelings" are always risky here, I know, but with code+deb loadouts (near-identical to .86 as far as I'm aware), sabre versus sabre fights take two or three times longer than they used to. |
