Mmk, I got an MSI K9N Neo v3, put in an AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ Black Edition, 2GB of OCZ Platinum PC2-6400, EVGA nVidia 7200GS, right?

I put it on a generic power supply (330W), and booted it up. Windows gets to the "Did not start properly" screen, hits 0 on the countdown, and reboots. I nabbed the drives out of another comp to test it. My question is, will I need to reinstall Windows on my main drives to get it working, or can I just shove them in and pray?

I do have a backup.

Check your BIOS first...comp might be looking in other drives to start windows...,like A drive..or cd-rom....have it look at teh hard drive first..then cd-rom....and is the power supply big enough?....when i built mine i had to go to 600w.

As I said, it's just a generic temp to power a mobo and two drives. I've got an Antec TruePower 450W to use perm. It is looking at the right drive, else it wouldn't come to that screen.

EDIT: I've become a spammer. Topped the stats today >.<

Windows isn't recognizing the hardware ...
If the HD is from another comp ... there ya go. Fresh install of windows with the new hardware and shouldn't have any issues.

Yeah, I figured as much. Thing is, I've been able to swap out drives in the past, no problems. Ah well, the price to pay for a dual-core uberproc.

You can boot. If the basic drivers are identical.

If you switched from an Intel P4 to a AMD duel core 5000+ then your going to have driver conflicts there.

That would make sense.

The drives that go into the final are going from an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ to the 64 x2 5k+

There shouldn't really be a problem with that in theory.

Mind you when I installed my drivers, I installed a driver package. Covering all drivers.

Different hard drives requires different drivers aswell. ie: SATA, SATAII (NCQ) and raid drivers are a factor.

What 13 cent says... Reinstall Widows! Oh yes I heard service pack 3 has some bugs with Photoshop and other programs, even though I haven't confirmed it yet, my advice is to wait a bit before installing SP3...

Main drive is SATAI, then I have a RAID 0 and a RAID 1. The 1 is on the mobo RAID controller, but when placed in the final will be on the addon RAID card with the 0 set.

I'm not installing SP3 anytime soon.
