Oikogéneia tou Koráki

Bio:

Oikogéneia tou Koráki ( short: Koraki ) was a once minor, unnoticed Maltese criminal organization, or family that is composed mainly of members of the Hellenistic minority. The organization’s main specialization is slave traffic, a proficiency and market dealt with utmost tradition and commitment by its members since the beginning of its days when it still thrived its existence inside the very entrails of the voids of inconspicuousness up until this new dawn, catalyzed by the recent maltese events.

Therefore, the organization’s members are mostly of Hellenistic culture, a minority that lived unnoticed since the events corelated with Hispania, which eventually led to the birth of both Corsairs and Outcasts. This minority, although very low in numbers, secured its continious existence inside the protective and prosperous veils of the Maltese society. Eventually, it became more and more renowned for its proficiency in slave traffic as more and more Greeks were associated with this act.

One family, or organization, decided to unleash its potential and organized itself, striving more and more to increase their prestige as proficient slavers. Thus, the Oikogéneia tou Koráki was born.

Koraki is formed by a small number of individuals, most of which being related in blood whose main occupation and goal is to increase their control over the slave traffic sirian wide as well as the organization’s influence as a whole through whatever means.

Lore:

The history of this organization can be traced back to the very days that signalled the departure of Sleeper Ship Hispania from the hostile clutches of the Coalition as they engulfed the once beautiful planet of Sol. Despite being inhabitated mainly by individuals of latin origins, the Sleeper Ship had found itself bestowed with the existence of people of Hellenistic origins as well, inside it. Completely unnoticeable in contrast to the population of latin individuals, but existent nonetheless.

Time moved forward, and eventually, Hispania reached Sirius. This signalled the division of the latins in two major groups: The Outcasts, and the Corsairs. The Hellenistic minority joined with the people that would eventually form the Outcast society, becoming Outcasts ( Maltese ) themselves. It is unknown whether or not there are individuals of hellenistic origins in the society of the Corsair „Empire” as well.
The minority, which now was part of the Maltese society, quickly found itself subject to the variables that plagued ( or blessed ) the Outcasts, as well as the society itself. Gifted, and at the same time, cursed with the effects exuded forth by the substance known as Cardamine, which overflown the waters, engulfed the land, and poisoned the air, the minority found itself integrated more and more inside the society of the Maltese.

The hierarchical system, and the notion of Slavery became known to the greeks as well. Many such individuals became worried that because of their substantial, obvious differences, would ultimately succumb to this heinous display of macabrism one would call sclavagism. It was an irrational fear, more or less, considering that they also sported many things which bonded them with the rest of the maltese, but it was present. Needless to say, they also had to provide sustenance to themselves one way or another should the minority wish to continue its inconspicuous existence.

As such, in order not to be dominated, one had to dominate, and that is what they did. They dominated, or better put, more and more members engaged in the activity which they once greatly feared: Slavery. Initially out of necessity and survival, their proficiency and comitmment for this „labour” was noticed. Their excellent services were sought more and more, eventually turning this folly of theirs into tradition and something which they became renowed for. Not once a Maltese heard the word „Hellenistic” and his mind automatically contrived the notion of slavery.

But their numbers were still negligible, and even the fame they earner, however high it would had been in their own views, was still unable to push the name of their existence accross the entirety of Maltese, and Sirius. Their victims, and outsiders of Outcast society had little occassions to discern them from the rest and there is a good reason why.

They are not a minority for no reason after all, for the minority is low in numbers. One could caress his ears with the existence of myths telling that their numbers were so low that they all could be relatives. As such, marriage between two greeks was a contraption viewed with a great hesitation. But exceptions existed, as they always exist. Afterall, their population, however low it may be, it is not that low as to allow the existence of a significant risk of inbreeding, especially considering the eight hundred years of procreation, communion and integration with the rest of the Maltese. This is nothing but a myth, a worrying fallacy that few ( and perhaps the old mostly ) possess.

Hellenistic culture continued to thrive as the population didn’t let go of it. Actually, it experienced a wave of decadence, a return to the older, primordial ages of its culture for some, leading to a very exquisite diversity. Some revived the „ancient Sol” culture, others live by the culture which once was called "Byzantine” , while others, in the entirety of their insight, decided not to pursue any changes, decadences or revivals to their culture, keeping it in the current form it was preserved. It is self understandable though, that with the world of Sirius and its technology, the culture and all its beauty evolved as well.

Marking the transition of years 819 – 820 A.S, an Outcast revolution began, which threw two major influencial Maltese organizations at each other’s throats. Those organizations being the 101st and the Contari Lance, leaving the Maltese powers distracted, if not weakened.
This event probably boasts the most notable and welcomed opportunities for the Hellenistic Minority, as this distraction, allowed for a once unnoticed organization to emerge from the shadows.
This organization ( or family ) is called Oikogéneia tou Koráki. Probably the most proficient conglomeration of greeks in the exquisite arts of slavery, as well as the most ambitious one. Despite using this now opened door, or window to acknowledge its existence to the rest of Sirius, it didn’t take part in the sparks of revolution that opened its door. Such an endeavour was seen as something that would bring little to no rewards for the moment, and in conflict with the wellbeing of the entirety of Maltese.

The Koraki, led by Kataktheos Koráki Sakellarios was functioning mainly as a family, as a number of its individuals ( especially the high ranked ones ) shared family bonds. Though normal Maltese and outsiders were also accepted should they prove themselves ( The organization was meritocratic )
The organization excelled at slavery, that being the most profitable venture it dealt with, it also wished to seize additional, ever growing influence and power like an insatiable serpent devouring its prey.
The ravenous and ambitious individuals often styled themselves as phanariotes, illustrating a depraved immitation of elegant merchants, as their one and only merchandise was flesh, living flesh materialized in the form of human individuals, slaves. Their proficiency and specialization shouldn’t fool anyone. Despite their great association with slavery, they are elegant, eccentric and educated, pursuing their interests with staunch diplomacy and persuasion, not just coercion and forms of arms. This is self understandable, for manipulating and throwing people into slavery requires one to understand how the human mind functions so that he could exploit its weaknesses. This makes quite a good number of the Koraki members masters of Psychological exploitation and manipulation.

Transports and fighters were mainly at its disposal. The Koraki wouldn’t be going looking for a fight too often. They do not perceive battle and war as a pleasure and prestigious honour, mainly because they would rather enslave their enemies and commit them to eternal pain and humiliation than ending their lives in a swift matter, but that doesn’t mean they do not partake in fights as well. As such, it is only understandable that the organization would be most often seen scouring the borderworlds, dashing like shadows through the Houses, and prowling for disasters ( as disasters lead to refugees, and refugees are the most easily obtained slaves ), always looking for slaves, and ultimately, the rewards to follow after the labour they yield.

Their inclination for „business” and apparent morality, an illusion casted by their discontent for murder shouldn’t fool anyone. After all, they are no peace keepers or honest folk as well, they would eagerly and impetiously engage in combat to obliterate their enemies, or assist the fellow maltese. The less enemies there are, the safer their trade webs are.

Actively pursuing its own interests, Koraki care little for trivialities such as sympathy, empathy, altruism and such. They are cold and cunning, and their apparent warm is nothing but deceitful. Although despite their arrogant display in caring for no one but themselves, Koraki respects the Hellenistic Minority, and the Maltese as a child would respect his parents, for without these parents, the Koraki wouldn’t exist now, and every member is aware of that.
But there is always a step in life where children leave their parents behind, pursuing their potential, and perhaps betraying them in the process...

The hierarchy inside the Oikogéneia is unique, to say the least. The organization is structured into two vague, broad compounds: Outsiders ( Brutes,) which form the backbone of the Koraki, they are the brutes, the underdogs and carry on the will of the superiors until they proves themselves worthy enough to either replace the so called superiors, or rise above them.

Next, there is the main Koraki strain, the Elite, those who had proven themselves and accepted as either members of the family or only members of the Themes, which is the status right below the Enáretos which can either be one or two persons, the overseers and those who attain final word and ultimate power in the faction. The ones occupying the Themes are called Metaforéas, carriers of the Enaretos’ words and tasked with sustaining the military and economical parts of the Koraki and assisting the Enaretos

Ultimately, Oikogéneia tou Koráki is a group of Outcasts of greek ( Hellenistic ) culture which have become known thanks to the Outcast revolution which provided them this welcomed opportunity. They are an organization proficient in slavery who’s ambition knows no bound, doing everything to increase its power. Currently, they are small and meagre, but with an ambition to compensate this.

Goals:

  • Continuous sustenance over the slave trade
  • Eventual monopoly over the Outcast slave markets and perhaps the Sirian ones as well
  • Occupying influence and renown, becoming recognized by not only the Maltese but also Sirius
  • Assessing opportunity over current and future disastrous incidents. Disasters lead to refugees, refugees are the most easily obtainable slaves.

Hierarchy:

The hierarchy is strict and very organized. One would compare it to a meritocratic aristocracy due to the fact that the Seat of Enáretos and the Themes are mainly composed of men and women of Hellenistic origins and of the same blood, while still accepting other maltese and outsiders not only in the faction as an entirety, but also in the inner circles of it should they prove valuable enough.
That being said, the faction’s hierarchy is formed as following:

The Seat of Enáretos
This is the seat hold by the Enáretos, which is either one or two ( one of them holding the improper term of Second in Command ) members of the faction which hold the final authority. They have final say in every matter that concerns the Oikogeneia.
(// Everything is allowed )

The Themes
The Themes is held by exactly three characters, each one of them pertaining a different and specific proficiency ( That is Military, Logistic and Research ) with the final responsibility of aiding the Enaretos and the Koraki with their talents and skills by overseering those below themselves and providing new opportunities.
(//Ships Allowed: Fighters/Bombers, Transports, Liners, Gunboats and Cruisers with special permission)

The Varangians
The Varangians are elite paramilitary personnel which are either outsider fullstanding members of the Koraki or even members of the same blood as the ruling Enaretos who decided that pertaining in the arts of war is a more prestigious matter. These elite soldiers would hold an equivalent rank to that of a captain, assessing the more tactical matters of combat involving leadership and tactical superiority, not just courage and brutality. They are one step below the Themes and what would non-greek improperly refer to as the „ High Command ” . It wouldn’t be uncommon to see some of these prestigious soldiers guarding the superiors.
(//Ships allowed: Fighters/Bombers, Transports, Liners, Gunboats )

The Stratió̱tes
These are the main backbone of this small and otherwise ambitious party. They are perceived as fully fledged members which proved their loyalty and comitmment to the wellbeing of the Koraki. They are to carry out the orders of the veterans and are more generally seen escorting the slave transports, protecting the Koraki’s interests against their enemies in a more... physical and direct manner.
(//Ships Allowed: Fighters/Bombers, Transports )

The Kiní̱sei
The Kinisei are the recruits, mercenaries or newly joined greeks and maltese inside the ranks of Koraki.
(//Ships allowed: Fighters/Bombers and Transports )

The Koraki's status and ranks are not only honorary but also bestows them with responsibilities and privileges. They are very organised, a feat easily accomplished by their manpower which centers around 20 or 30 members. They complement this low value by employing their number one merchandise: slaves ( a good compromise as it requires no great resources expenditure but needs greater control and caress )

They also employ other greeks and maltese do to fields of work they wouldn’t deal with ( Such individuals are certainly better treated than their slave counterparts ) such as crew members of slave transports.

RE: Oikogéneia tou Koráki Faction Information Thread - Oikogéneia tou Koráki - 10-12-2013

Right, as you may have guessed, the main reason which lead to this faction's existence is the fact that a substantial part of Outcast RP hasn't been properly exploited to my opinion, and that Outcast RP is Slavery.

The other thing which I added was to make this faction of Greek culture.

The reason why there is no "Allied Faction" yet is because that is a stance achieved through ingame and forum roleplay. I dare not to field any allies yet as there had been no RP achieved ( which I guess is understandable )
Major part of the diplomacy is taken from the NPC outcast faction.

As you may have guessed, the faction is still in the draft/idea period and we are going to exploit this period to the maximum thanks to the beta period.

All feedback and suggestions are welcomed.

That's one major wall of text, and I'll give it a read once I'm more in the mood for it. For a start, I much like the idea of a faction covering other industry on Malta as just being yet another Cardamine-syndicate. That said, I'll especially look into your background given economic relations and the ship usage you're going to fly with.
Will drop you a note when I'll bring feedback once I'm through all this.

K.

On a more serious note, Divine did not misspeak when he said it's a wall of text. You could probably have trimmed a few words out by saying "Greeks" instead of "those of a Hellenistic minority/origin/descent" more often though.
I know this is a fairly common problem in faction backgrounds, but if there were really so few Greeks aboard the Hispania who would have suffered the same problems as the rest of the Outcasts, would they really be that Greek without actually becoming 'one big family' as it seems to me? Doesn't leave a lot of breeding options, especially with the extremely low fertility rates. I didn't really understand that part of it.
*Ok, re-read it and it seems ok.

The diplomacy is a little barren at the moment, you can definitely include the Colonial Republic, IMG and GMG in the hostile category given their strong anti-slavery ideals and operations. Particularly for the first group, who I've also RPed as a significant proportion of the Crayterians being Greek (so thus a lot of them would be Greek-descended upon arrival in Sirius), who would particularly hate your perversion of our culture to be all about slaves. What about all those ideals like democracy, free thinking and... loving of whoever you wanted? Maybe not that last one, age-wise Tongue
Also after a bit of research, I appear to find that Greeks really loved their slaves back in the day. Still, Crayter had them dislike the mistreatment of people (and over-use of machines) by some unspecified conflict, so CR are still against it by principle.

Anyway, as long as you can put as much effort into this as your other groups it should be interesting RP-wise, I just hope you can attract enough people with something more than slave-smuggling.

EDIT: Some stuff added above. Also, Greeks and other Mediterranean countries are fairly conceivable to be included aboard the Hispania, since it was kind of a mess onboard there.

Greeks? In the Outcast society?

Panz, is that you?

RE: Oikogéneia tou Koráki Faction Information Thread - Luke. - 10-12-2013

Looks interesting enough though I'm struggling to read such a massive wall of text. You haven't listed any Outcasts as "allies" which is good. Clearly you can see how Outcasts work.

We are Hispanic however, not Greek. As Summer said, Diplomacy needs expansion too. Shorten the Lore etc (though detailed i'm sure) and i'll have a proper read of it.

Who is Panz? I'm pretty sure I never met him

Indeed, diplomacy does need expansion, and it is going to be expanded over the course of this evening and tomorow. Courtesy to beta for giving us time and opportunity to scour all the factions and their stance.

Shorten the lore? Here I was planning to expand it.... Really... I was disappointed that it came like... half than I expected it to be D:

Also, may I request you to elaborate that " We are Hispanic however, not Greek " part? So far, I can either think you are pointing to the fact that I may have referred to the entirety of the Outcasts as greek, which I didn't, I reffered to the minority only ( at least I wanted to ), or that there is no room for a greek culture faction in the outcasts.

Also, Summer, can't wait to have RP encounters with the CR now that you put that.

I can easily imagine them as the general Sparta - Athens QQ fests huehueheu

And to everyone: Thank you for the feedback

Yeah I realise you weren't assuming that Outcasts were Greek but if you're an Outcast then it's generally accepted that you're of Spanish or Italian descent. Don't see why it can't work though.

Another point, Omega's? Omega's are outside of Outcast ZoI so having that as a secondary for your operating space is a bit...ehh.

Do like the idea of taking advantage of refugee-infested areas for the whole slavery-focused RP you're aiming for.

The Omegas can be explained by being more or less a temporary secondary zone of interest. The current state of Rheinland and Gran Canaria can explain this situation I hope. It provides a good spot for enslaving people from.

I cannot answer for sure if we'd enslave zoners as well, I mean. They could have other uses as well should we require them and good diplomacy would be sought. But I heard there are also corsairs on Gran Canaria so....

I've done a bit of research into it since you raised the point here (a good one, btw), and it seems that people from a wide variety of nation states became crammed into the Hispania, Greeks and all.

^, will fix and thanks for stating that about the CR - it'd feed well into possible encounters.
