Sub-targeting purpose? - DragonRider - 10-26-2013

Hello.
So, sub-targeting

What is it for?
Anything other that viewing the ship's exteral equipement and components?

I've heard a rumor that whatever you target will be the target for your missiles. I'm not sure if that's true trough.

yes its true, same as your guns target, tho i always forget to use it

Use Nova Torps on Transport's thruster. Leave transport without thruster. See as it tries to run at 90/s.

Subtargeting changes where the red + appears, as it's now focusing in that area instead of the usual (which defaults to the Shield hardpoint)

This can make it easier to hit dodge-happy ships, or ones with shoddy hitboxes (like the AI cruiser)

Simply target a different area, such as a gun on the nose of the AI cruiser, and watch it always be hit.

I believe it goes to the centre of the ship's hitbox, which usually works other than the AI cruiser as you mentioned and the Asco - both are easier to hit when subtargeting the shield or Asco Torpedo in the latter case.

As Snak3 said, this can be useful for damaging thrusters (using fighter missiles and torpedoes, Novas or cap missiles) or with a particularly sturdy CAU8 Battleship (usually the kind that previously didn't always take hull damage from Novas), destroying shield generators and the like with heavy Nova rain so you can easily SNAC them.

Gun can destroy thruster with sub-target?

RE: Sub-targeting purpose? - SummerMcLovin - 10-26-2013

If you can directly hit whatever component you are aiming at, yes. With guns this isn't very effective but high single-shot damage like MRs, SNACs and perhaps slower LF guns could work.
SNACing off guns instead of destroying snubs was the bane of my PvP for a week or so Wink

Yep, you just need to shoot correct place.

RE: Sub-targeting purpose? - Eugen - 11-02-2013

well its reminiscent from the old days of space sims were u had to shut down (destroy) shields on capships so ur own capship/bombersquad could penetrate the hull , Or disable the engine for boarding partys

for better understanding a little vid from starlancer Woob! .

Sub-targeting on ships like the Eagle or most BHG ships can be VERY nice...you can blast off there wings with enough damage xD
And when fighting big ships you can make them become totally useless by blasting off parts, like there guns (once had it done to me) I have even got my shields taken off :/
