Scanners - Govedo13 - 11-09-2013

I love the new change but the current available scanners are lacking big time.
I managed to find only 4 types:
1 Scanner - Detect Range 8k, Scan range 1k- beginner product quite ok for such.

2: Advanced Cargo Scanner- Detect Range 10k, Scan range 6k- I got the idea behind but bigger scanner range brings nothing in terms of PvP upper-hand because from 9,9k range with the Advanced Deep Scanner one can use the F9 scan and check the loadout of the said ship.
In terms of Policing contraband/ Pirating the 6k scan range does not change anything since the max CD range is 3,5k

3: Advanced Deep Scanner Detect Range 14k, Scan range 4k- this one is the clear winner, it is just better then the other 2 in all possible applications.

4: Battleship/Spyglass Scanner- Range 25k Scan Range 3k
My suggestions:
Scanner- keep it the same
Advanced Cargo Scanner- Detect Range 10k,Scan Range 10k
Advanced Deep Scanner- Detect Range 16k, Scan Range 2k
This gives some trade-offs and reasons to use Advanced Cargo Scanner at all.
Battleship Scanner- haven't tested that one, but if it indeed show the presence of the ships at 25k then you can add at least 10k for cargo scan range and assign to it let say 50-60 cargo so it cannot be used by snubs, keep the high price.
Also add more types of scanners. Consider to add some middle-ground scanner for around 100m price that allows detecting at lets say 16-18k and scanning at 6-8k- it would be nice moneysink.

You forgot the Discovery Scanner, BS scanner to name a couple off the top of my head.

RE: Scanners - Core_One - 11-09-2013

And Spyglass? :|

RE: Scanners - Govedo13 - 11-09-2013

I guess the Spyglass is copy of the BS one, the rest are not existing in the game sale spots anymore.

RE: Scanners - West - 11-09-2013

I agree on the fact that BS scanner now kind of weird, 25k spot range.. but only 3k scan for 250mil? Also like your idea to add cargo requirements for it so can't be used on snubs.

Give it at least 13k detect, you cant cut lane enough early if just 10k.

It's copy ... But it should be more: "Spy"glass

RE: Scanners - Pilip - 11-09-2013

If i'm not mistaking advanced cargo scanner has the same range detection as disco scanner and bigger cargo scan range? what's the point in buying a disco scanner then? wich one is ,,most advanced,,?

Battleship/spyglass scanners have 25 detection range but the target Cannot be clicked/seen unless is a Bs or is preety close(same 9.4 range to click target).
So in this i see no use for it since i cannot even see in which direction left right the target friend/enemy IS actually.

About the 3k cargo range scan, Whi? shouldn't i be able to see from the incoming enemy if that cap has missiles or pulses mounted, or maybe from that snub group Aproaching, which one is a bomber and which fighters so that can blast nova at me before figuring the most dangerous targets and have them clicked as priority?

apart from gameplay view....from a Military House Development high funded and all those titles, this aspects seems a non sens and therefore the Advanced cargo scanner outmatches BS scanner on both utility fronts while Not costing that ridiculous amount of cash for something inferior!

what's the point having in game an item that is clearly pointless? my view of the matter.
(also is capital thruster still here....?same situation)

RE: Scanners - Govedo13 - 11-09-2013

Philip you cannot buy Disco Scanner any more, check for the available to buy scanners in the first post.

The Idea of this topic is because the advanced cargo scanner supremacy in scanners is just changed with Advanced Deep Scanner supremacy, it would take some time to change the scanners on the ships but still the scanners available does not offer any trade-offs or changes making the whole effort to implement the new plug-in and the work kinda useless.

Agreed forgot about it. However there is the trade-off- if it is 13k then it makes the Advanced Deep Scanner useless.

I hope that this is just development stage for this equipment and that more additional scanners would be added together with tweaking of the said 4 available.

About the Spyglass it could be win-win situation if it is added to the tech nerf table and get some price reduction and tweaking in order to be LH exclusive equipment. I dunno if the LH got their ships back labelled as LH instead of BW but it could be their trade-off for it.

RE: Scanners - Kosa - 11-09-2013

I like what Govedo advised, however I also like how it is right now. Maybe the Advanced Deep is a bit too powerful.
The Battleship scanner is okay as it is now. The 25K detection range is awesome. You can't click the target but most of the time you can predict where they are. And that also means big ships are shown visually like Battleships/Carriers and the Barge! If you have sharp eyes you can even see cruisers and some transports. Gunboats are tiny dots from that distance. Of course all this visual happiness is negated by nebulae and clouds which is also a good twist to the game.
A big +1 to the changes that happened here!

ONE QUESTION:
What happened to the local chat distance? It remained 15K or it changed according to the detection range of your scanner? That way you could 'spy' local chat with the BS scanner.
