We need a community manager. - sindroms - 11-20-2013 We need a person, who takes care of the players, new and old, and their interests. Who gathers information discussed on the forum, compiles it and sends it to the people who can do something about it. Runs events, when others are too lazy to do it. Spends enough time on the forum and ingame to know what the current topics and issues are and helps the community communicate with an otherwise detached dev team, who simply perhaps do not have enough time to see their changes ingame first hand, but rather have to depend on raw data without actual human input. Basically, we need a person, who can act as the communication point between the community and the admin/devteam, relaying information from either side, filter it, making it compact and understandable. Not everyone has the chance to siv through the forum all day and read every complaint or feedback thread. Or bother to observe ingame stuff to gather info from players, who do not have access to the forum. In other words, we need a person, as un-biased as it is possible, who will give up their gaming time to make the community a more welcome and friendly place both to olds and nubs alike, not to mention, as stated above, act as a bridge between the spirit worl players and the development team. Who should it be? Do we need one? How we will reward such a, let's face it, tedious job? Discuss. RE: We need a community manager. - Narcotic - 11-20-2013 The question would rather be; who would volunteer for such an ungrateful task? RE: We need a community manager. - Rodnas - 11-20-2013 I voted yes, we need one... or maybe two or three to ease the load? Not everyone is a great communicator, while a open and bundled communications would help quite a bit to ease some tensions here... But Narco is right- who is trusted by everyone, has enough spare time and is willing to pull this off? To answer your question Narc. I would. This, as some may find wierd, is a dream for me. Helping people is something I love, to help the community and a mod I enjoy so much, I would be more than happy. I also agree that perhaps multiple people to do this would be ideal, but finding people who wish to just help people with their problems, evaluate with them on it, and then present to admins and Devs to find a possible solution, or a full explanation to answer the question, could prove difficult. Regardless, I vote yes on this, and will put my name forward, if people would accept me. RE: We need a community manager. - Thargoid - 11-20-2013 I like the idea. They could set up polls and stuff, perform research, spy on people in-game with a cloaked vessel and insta-jump/spawn powers to see if they're having a good time/bad time, ask new players a few questions in-game, asking what they like/dislike so far (this could be a way of getting more people to stay)... and other stuff. RE: We need a community manager. - Druen78 - 11-20-2013 The burden would be too much for a single person. We'd need one for each House, one for Independent Worlds and freelancer factions, and one for the Edge Worlds and related madness And they should remain players, not become admins or moderators.PS: I volunteer for Independent Worlds; I'm a relatively unknown player, but I've been here for quite some time (don't let the account date fool ya, it's not my first account). I don't have my fingers in multiple jars as many other players do (not that it's a bad thing) so I think I would be able to remain neutral and objective. RE: We need a community manager. - Curios - 11-20-2013 Seems like the delay between the proposals and the actual arrival of those ideas live is around 2 year +\-, GM was proposed a long time ago. Ye, we need one. Why? Because community can't regulate itself (turns out it can't). Who that must be? I guess it must be a couple of people, but not many. One can't keep up with all the odds around all the systems and factions and also forum. It must be 4 people with 1 being head over other 3. They must take votes on the decisions with head leader having 2 vote point value over others having 1 point. etc etc. In short - yes. P.S. The task is kinda heavy and I can't volunteer to the position myself duo to the work hours and time zone (I'm in GMT+4 so while peeps in EU are coming from work in evening it's almost night here already). However I can toss out ideas and advises. No one need them though. Right, Govedo?

Admins and devs take decisions, community managers would just be ambassadors and organizers. There's no decision to be taken there, so no need for a "head" or a "vote". RE: We need a community manager. - sindroms - 11-20-2013 Apart from the fact, that the managers decide which information to the thousands of suggestions and complaints they gather should be even bothered to forward to the admins/mods. RE: We need a community manager. - Druen78 - 11-20-2013 Well yeah a selection work would be in order, but nothing more than that. And that's why each House/territory should need its own manager, because different sub-communities have different priorities. |
